- How many times has someone told you that you should work med-surg for a year or two to gain experience before attempting to get into a specialty like labor and delivery?! I'm here today to tell you guys that's bullish*t and how you can increase your chances of getting your dream nursing position as a new grad nurse! Labor and delivery nursing is a hard specialty to get into but with my nurse tips, hopefully I can help some of you guys land your dream positions as well!! In this video, I'm sharing how I become a new grad labor and delivery nurse and giving you guys some tips so you can join me in proving all those pessimists wrong!

Congrats on becoming an L&D nurse!! I wasn’t sure if that was possible to achieve but now that I know that you’ve done it then I feel more confident on trying to shoot for my goals. I want to be an ED nurse in a trauma unit and was told that many hospitals don’t really hire new grads into this specialty. But like you said if I don’t try then I won’t succeed! Great video!

I also just started in labor and delivery as a new grad! Congrats! It took a lot of hard work but it’s absolutely possible!

Youngest granddaughter graduated 4.0 18 Dec 2019 11 month 8 day ABSN Uni of Houston. Got job as new nurse grad at Houston Methodist. Passed NCLEX, continued working as L&D nurse. Was pregnant and fellow nurses decorated her room. She delivered a boy 3.5 months ago and is now back to work.

How long did it take/how much schooling did you do you from the start of college to working as an L&D nurse?
I just got my NCLEX results on Christmas Day AND I PASSED w/ 145 Questions! it was very scary! But im very grateful and I wanna be a L&D nurse too however there arent any residencies for L&D in NYC do you know of any that you can inform me of?
yay!! congrats on passing your NCLEX!! It's such a relief to be on the other side of the NCLEX 😆 I am not in NYC so I'm not very familiar with residencies in NY. If you haven't done so already, I would just start with a google or indeed search for new grad positions in your area. Once you know what kind of organizations you'd like to work for, maybe start networking on LinkedIn and hopefully get in contact with someone that could help you out!
