  • Hello my Friends!
    This tutorial is the start of a weekly five minute lesson series, starting from beginner, going to more advanced.
    Obviously, mastery is a continual process, but my hope is, new players can get started quickly on their journey!
    In it, i will be talking about a variety of topics, including strikes, techniques, integration with other instruments, and theory.
    Though most who own them may not need this type of lesson anymore, i wanted to record a quick start video, for those who do not want to go through longer lesson series.
    Hope this is helpful to new players and more to come every thursday!
    Stay well and remember,
    Rewildyoursoul

    Thanks very much for your tutorials! Can you make one on developing rhythms? For some of us coming from a melodic instrument background rather than percussion, that is the harder part. I notice you often have a regular underlying beat in the middle of the drum, from which you branch out. Can you slow that down and show how it works?

    I definitely want one of these drums in the future. It will have to wait in line with a few keys of Native American style flutes I'm lacking, but I will have a rav vast drum at some point. I'll mainly be looking at drums in keys that play well with minor pentatonic tuned flutes, and are on the easier side of learning. I'm guessing that the B celtic minor and B kurd would do well, as well as their D minor scaled drum. Thanks for sharing!

    • @BDWoodruffmusic
      @BDWoodruffmusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just FYI, I also play Native American style Flutes, and my B Celtic RAV sounds great with a high or low B flute or an F#.

    I had a question, your ravs are metallic and ringing with the octave hits, mine is ceramic feeling/ matte and I don't seem to be able to hit these octave strokes. Are the vast 1/2 maybe different materials?
    Also, just in time, thank you :D you are a legend of a soul!

    • @ReWildYourSoul
      @ReWildYourSoul  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey my friend. It all depends on where you are hitting and the generation. As you said, this with the new finish have a slightly different octave prominence. Also, as you guessed, vast 1 and 2 are different thickness. Old Ravs used a different type of steel as well.
      Hopefully I answered your question 🙏
      Feel free to make a video about what you are talking about and I can help you figure it out !
      Stay well!

    Hi since Ravs are now a bit more expensive complicated to get wouldn't it be cool to offer a Rav connection network for those looking for certain scales and those looking to sell and help make that connection I know I am looking for two scales and just sold one on Ebay. Just a suggestion. Thanks. Eddie

  • @myrtofeli7340
    @myrtofeli7340 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hello! 🙂 In the video, you mention that one tounge has 6 notes or so, am I right? So, does this mean that whatever scale you use, you can have all notes and halfnotes you have on a guitar for example? How does it work with each tounge of rav? For example a D4 or a G3, etc center note of a tounge which other notes does it have close to it on the same tounge?

    • @ReWildYourSoul
      @ReWildYourSoul  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! The harmonics and partials can be isolated via muting on the tongue. Really the octave fifth and a few others are the easiest to get to through that technique. :)

    Is there a way to “bend” the notes (akin to the pitch wheel on a keyboard)?

    • @ReWildYourSoul
      @ReWildYourSoul  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      One handpans, yes, Ravs and tongue drums, no. Simply because of the function of their tuning! Common on handpans to do ding bends, but mostly a small accent.

    • @teegees
      @teegees 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ReWildYourSoul Yep I found a video of a guy bending notes on a pan, but the only example I found with a tongue drum was by placing and dipping it down in water. Was pretty cool actually, though not sure it’s good for the drum!
