    Hi everybody, I have been following David's Rav's course (through "Master The Hand Handpan) since September, practicing on a little Tank Drum. (My Rav just got here 10 days ago and the universe has opened suddenly...)
    David's teaching style is so generous, friendly and progressive, anyone can definitely bring to life the Rav Player who was dormant in their heart. I personally have no musical background but I already feel I have already been getting so much joy with it and am already venturing some short personal compositions. The harmonizing power of this instrument is just beyond words..
    Thank you so much David. Keep doing this wonderful work..
    Pauline

    Great lessons! Thanks so much! I just got my VAST a few days ago and these videos are very helpful.
    I just have to watch the video one time; unlike some other videos where they demonstrate a rhythm at almost full speed and you've got to watch the video like twenty times to pick it up.

    I literally almost cried with relief and I found your channel. I have had my RAV Vast for a couple of weeks and really I had no idea where to even begin. What concerned me was that I knew I was developing bad habits, out of ignorance, of how to play correctly from the beginning. I'm willing to take all the time needed to start slowly and build good habits; but I had nowhere to get that instruction. Of the concerns I have- I do not seem to be able to create a good tone. It just feels as though I am not getting a ringing sound, a resonant sound. It feels weak and muted. It makes me question if I have purchased a drun which is perhaps too difficult for someone with zero experience. I have been advised by several people to use mallets; and something about that feels almost sacrilegious to me and certainly doesn't feel like what I envisioned playing a hand drum. I don't know if it's just ignorance of how to strike the tongue and where to strike the tongue. But I have been unable to replicate clear tone that I admire when others play. It seems to come so easily to them. I also have a double ding drum; and so I'm concerned that may have made my choice more difficult as it's harder for me to get the small tongues to resonate as well as the larger. How can I best apply a double ding instrument to instruction that does not have it? I am so grateful for your channel and if there is a complete instruction program available available to progress through each skill in a logical progression- please push me in that direction and you'll have a student for life. I also complicated my acquaintance with my drum by trying to understand the overtones that I have seen demonstrated on another channel, striking different parts of the tongue while dampening another part. I'm sure that's far too advanced and not helpful for a beginner. But these are the mistakes that I make when I do not have instruction with a clear progression of skills. I have seen some people strike only with the middle finger, and some strike with the ring and middle finger, and some who use their thumbs. Regardless of which way I attempt, I cannot seem to get the clear, ringing sound that seems to come naturally to other people. Also, I am a Leftie. 😗 I will go to your website and look at any options that there are for complete instruction. But I am very grateful to find this series of videos.

  • @sandersteenhart8116
    @sandersteenhart8116 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is it possible to switch left with right? It could feel better if you're a lefty, like me... :-) Or would there be a reason not to do so?

    • @MasterTheHandpan
      @MasterTheHandpan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely (given the fact you have a left-handed instrument). One approach is to reverse everything you see, so blue will be right and red will be left (the opposite to the current set-up).There will be a few restrictions for you as a left-handed player in that in the videos you will hear 'left' and for you it will be 'right' and as all the movements are reversed, it may take a little time to get used to.
