    Good review, nice loco at the price, one wonders now that Hornby has purchased Oxford Rail ( the remaining 51%) if these prices will remain or go up to Hornby prices!

      Guaranteed the price will go up, or the other option, they will not re issue under their brand name when stocks deplete.

      At the moment personnel at OR is changing and I don’t have a contact there any more to ask.

    Even a smoke unit could be added to this gorgeous little engine!! And that would make it absolutely prototypical!!

    J27 number 1010 in LNER livery is perfect to change from to NER livery as pre-grouping and renumber.

    Had the same problem with the four of mine, pickups and tender. I did get top off by bending it right back and giving it a twist. Made a horrible noise and thought I had broke it but all was good.

    They called this type of tender a water tank with small coal hopper.

    And will it take DCC Sound? It’s a gorgeous locomotive and is going to take a star rating when running on Ongar Station in 00!!

    If anybody is interested in buying this model?. (I cannot afford to) Then buy it now!!!!!! Oxford Die Cast and Oxford Rail are now 100% owned by Hornby. Hornby already had a 49% share of the company and now they bought the remaining 51%. Is this going to be good or bad for the model railway business and the buying public? Buy this model while you still can. I wish I could. Martin. (Thailand)

    I bought 2 J27's from 2 different retailers, both in the L&NER livery, and they BOTH instantly short out my Hornby DCC controller if I put them on the track with the blanking plug in place - does anyone know why?

    just got one today.very disapointed.
    1.tender pickups not connected.
    2 connecting bar between loco and tender bent so front wheels of tender not on tracks.
    3.right siderods not sitting level .
    4.sand pipes not fitted correctly...kept catching on track.
    the dealer offered to accept a return and refund .i had waited ages to get one.i managed to get it running ok because i couldnt be arsed to shlep it 6 miles to my local post office.the shop keeper said it seems that there having more issue with oxford rail since covid.
    in fairness he did offer a refund but its not the same as a good loco.
    i had a late crest on order ...i stress ...had.i will cancel order tomorrow and spend the 100 quid on a couple of used locos .

    Jenny, great review. I've got two on order of the amazing value sound fitted versions. However, about your comment on pulling power. On Sam's Trains review his model was pulling 20+ wagons up a gradient with no problem. So is there a problem of consistency and hence quality between these models???

    • @JenniferEKirk

    And by the way, I was wondering if it was a Great Eastern locomotive.

  • @rockerfromthebackstreets
    @rockerfromthebackstreets 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent review, the price is unreal for a tender pick up, the point of low grip pulling coal trucks the only poor point to note id say, could this be addressed with addition of more weight in the loco, is there room?

    • @JenniferEKirk
      @JenniferEKirk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is very little extra room but installation of something like Powerbase would massively help.

  • @mobius8002
    @mobius8002 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    it must have gone up because its now listed at 109 quid.also i dont think 87 quid is cheap.we all seem to have excepted the cost of locos but i think we should all stand firm ?stop paying these inflated prices and get the price down further.especially older models still being pumped out at high prices.i have the late crest j27 on order for 95 quid .where did you pick up yours from please.

    • @barleyarrish

      The ongoing rises in consumer inflation are exacerbated by rising costs to manufacturers and shipping. So you have a triple whammy. !. The Government ('s of the world shutting down over a disease with a 99%+ Survival Rate according to CDC) locking down which includes borrowing for Covid measures. 2.Manufactures having to pay Carbon Taxes, 3.Shipping Having to pay Carbon Taxes.. Expect more price rises as inflation devalues the pound in your pocket, and The International Banking Cartel refuse to support businesses that do not conform to the New Green deal and UN Sustainable Development Goals outlined in Agenda 21 AKA 20/30.

    I don't normally risk comment on personal matters, for obvious reasons. Jennifer, your swollen hands, tightness of rings and reddish hand colours make me uncomfortable. Please tell me (us - viewers) that there is no cause for alarm and that you are "fit to go". This comment is offered with great respect and concern.... As a diabetic, I see this as a warning and we cannot afford to lose you now or any other time. Ummm (sorry!).

    I think your detail bag might be missing, I bought the LNER version Running Number 1010 and it had a tiny grip top bag with 3 fire irons on a sprue, 2 three link couplings and a drawbar to allow close coupling to the tender. I've not checked the pick ups since mine ran perfect straight out of the box, but I will.
