Pat Metheny grazie perchè la tua musica riesce a trasmettermi ciò che ho bisogno....ragazzii non ne capitano + come lui, godiamocelo finchè c'è!!!! grazie per ieri sera a bolzano!!! vivere per credere...
As Director of LEMUR, the group who created most of the instruments for the Orchestrion, I was thrilled to be a part of this project. If you want to hear more work on LEMUR's instruments, check out LEMUR's other videos (Google us...can't post URL)
Jamming with your soul... in the machine. Now That's spiritual! Pat, you continue to explore. Continue to amaze. Continue to extend the continuity of *being* --with time... in space.
Pat Metheny TE AMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO con locura y pasion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw Pat in Baden-Baden, Germany yesterday night 2 3/4 hours nearly non-stop Playing. It was amazing! amazing! amazing! A very special and unforgetable event. I was sitting in the middle of the first row - right in front of this great orchestrion and artist. Thanx to my wife - it was a present from her.
Any 'thumbs down' to Mr. Pat Metheny has never stretched their ears beyond chopsticks. Unbelievable how anyone could refuse the artistry of this man. Even if his style is not your preference, you've got to respect the technique and discipline to accomplish what he has done. And his Orchestrion music I believe will be his finest legacy after he's gone. And there will never be another to touch his sweet artistry and tonality.
I agree, I looked up Pat once on TH-cam and I watched the opening of the Way Up (and before that I really didn't care about jazz) and completely redefined jazz to me and now he is my favourite :)
Almost ironic that in the age of live rave concerts and shows like Broadway that have taped music, The self appointed unity leader of jazz would not use live musicians, Mister Metheny likes to call others dumb.
"Even if his style is not your preference, you've got to respect the technique and discipline to accomplish what he has done." Yes, and that doesn't mean that they have to like the video as acknowledgement. Those two things are not tightly coupled events.
Pat is a rare gift to mankind; to humanity. His work ethic, selfless dedication to perfection and the fact that he shares his gift with the entire world by touring extensively, touching so many. Thank you, Pat for all of the great memories thus far. Priceless. ❤ 🎶
I saw him in concert last night. Here is my review: "Bizzare, Awesome, Genius, Brilliant - I loved it!" Don't miss this solo concert,! you may never get a chance to see something like this again. A genius like Pat only comes around every century or so.
Pat is Phenomenal to say the least very innovative and a great creative mind and what a studio he has it looks like a museum of instruments modern day phantom of the opera kinda like in a good way.
The title track to this album (first song being played) Orchestrion is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. As a composition it is absolutely gorgeous and Pat wrote it with the "robot" orchestra in mind. It gets stuck in my head so easily and I love it when it does :)
I couldnt agree more. I feel lucky too. I am pleased to have witnessed such an amazing performer share some more incredible music with a great audience last night at The Barbican. This guy is definitely a one off, and a genius. And another thing, if there is ever a reason for getting a HD Plasma, bluray player and a 7Ch surround system, then the Bluray of The Way Up is surely it. I have never tired of hearing his complete works since I first heard him in 1979...and I doubt that I ever will.
Reading the comments I see there is a definite divide between those who love this and those who don't. I guess, some people don't get it or just don't care for this concept that Pat has brought to life. In any case I think it's a great achievement for Pat. Very different, unlike anything I've seen/heard before. I've been a musician all my life and the mere concept of this is fascinating. Pat has played with the greatest musicians in the world and is one of the most prolific composers.
I'm floored here, wow. I had no idea of this level of orchestion. It's just so amazing, I can't even understand the thumbs down. Even if the music was not appreciated, the technology behind it's mind boggling! Pat Metheny makes it look easy, but goes along with his greatness as a performer. Super great post, and video!
As a former concert piano tuner (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra) and having rebuilt more than a few players and reproducers, and helped even with a few Orchestrion and nichelodeons - I'm BLOWN AWAY - Pat, WOW, WOW!!!!!
I am so impressed not only by Pat's music but also by the sheer amount of work he must put into his projects. I hope Pat brought a lot of roadies for his tour....
The Orchestrion is basically the world's largest, most complex stomp box. Pat Metheny isn't trying to put other musicians out of work. He's just exploring how technology expands what one musician can do. While the results are interesting, creative and musical, it would be even more interesting to see him continue playing with other musicians. The development of musical ideas through human interaction ultimately offers more than one person interacting with technology.
Once again, PM proves to the world that he is the most consumate forward thinking musician (forget guitar, forget jazz) on the planet, we are truly blessed to have him.
After hearing some snippets, I think I'll be buying this album. As a music lover, but also a geek, I think the marriage of art and machinery here is very interesting. The most important thing is that the music is good to listen to. It's easy to lose sight of how important that is in the debate about machines and music. The bottom line for me is that I like what I'm hearing. How it was realised is interesting, but secondary to the actual enjoyment of the product.
I went to this concert. I found it completely fascinating and inspiring. It was simply different than the experience of Pat with Lyle M and the rest of the band - a different sound - but certainly not disappointing - unless you came into it demanding that Metheny limit his art to what you have been completely used to.
WHOW!!! This beats pulling sounds from module connected to a guitar. Pure accoustic sound... nothing synthethic, but the mechanical touch. Wonderfull to see this.
please, be relax, this is only an example of geniality, machines, human touch, sincronization all of this is music but tell me when another artist do something like this. don´t forget that Metheny is a gramy award winner many times ! people like him, quincy jones or miles davis have been changed the history in music and any new project they made its an evolution of his creativity.
Really happy I saw Pat on his Orchestrion Tour. A lot of PMG fans sat out this tour; a big mistake. To experience it now watch the Orchestrion Bluray with its incredible 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio, and if you can catch Pat touring with the Unity Group right now! Just saw him @ Austin City Limits. The Unity Group is really stellar. They are in Europe now, and have some shows in US late summer '14.
I saw him at the Detroit Jazz festival a few years ago and was totally blown away. That wall of machines interacting with him was really something to see. Never will forget it.
I love pat metheny orchestrion and Miniature Grand Piano and and Miniature Xylophone Miniature Drums and Miniature Accordion and samsung - galaxy book flex alpha 2-in-1 13.3" qled touch-screen laptop - intel core i5
nulla si discosterà dallo stile Methenyiano che tutti noi conosciamo benissimo, fatto di atmosfere etniche, di voli sognanti, di melodie complicatissime di pezzi composti con tempi irregolari ecc...
I love this!!!! Just can’t imagine touring with all this!?! Must take hours just to set up... my brother-in-law is a drummer and saw what he goes through to set up before a gig... Pat is definitely a musical genius!! Love him !🥰😘
I wonder where people were to slam Pat's solo effort "A Map Of The World"... NO ONE even talks about that album and yet Pat mimics loads of things from that album itself! Not to mention the fact that he has a constant sound that real fans appreciate. The "GROUP" played once again. They will play AGAIN! This album is NOT the death of Pat Metheny Group. A man as deep as Pat is given a pass to do an album such as this without spoiling your dinner...

Pat Metheny. Quality Q in music! Always great.
I saw this in Detroit...in May 2010 purely scintillating.
Pat is Phenomenal to say the least very innovative and a great creative mind and what a studio he has it looks like a museum of instruments modern day phantom
of the opera kinda like in a good way.
I saw him yesterday in Bremen too. FANTASTIC.
Pure Bliss and nostalgic spiritual influences
