He is one of the all time greatest American composers and probably the most prolific jazz composer currently working. The style, arrangements, and sheer creative force and untouchable, not to mention his guitar and compositional facility. Rather than "thinning out" over the years and reverting to ever more familiar means he has continue to break into entirely new sonic realms using basically the identical tools he has used since the beginning. All the creativity, focus, and improvisation intuition, however, continue to grow and once again show fresh directions. PM will be one of those artists like Bach and Mozart that people will be listening to, and astonished by hundreds and hundreds of years from now.
Deep deep deep richness of harmony, layers and layers of grove and flow. I would love to know how this and many other great tunes of his were written and fully brought to life. This is one of a kind, just considering the music alone.
Great, now all the jazz musicians are out of a job too ! Five minutes after this ended, the producer fired Pat, and the engineers started setting up the guitar-picking machine.
How would you explain that? In order to say that you'd have to know someone personally, to say the least. Turning inward isn't an inherently negative process. Those that fail to do so are only looking at the outside world rather than at themselves. What person doesn't turn inward? Let alone composers. Mozart wrote "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" the year his father Leapold died.

I saw this live yesterday at their concert here in Brussels and it's one of the craziest things I've ever seen. Man

Shortly after this video was made, I believe the band split up due to “creative differences”.

I don't think he realises what an abomination this is.
Pat has turned inward. Sad. He's becoming the Elon Musk of jazz guitarists.
