You have to wire the positive to the fuse box, make sure it is the fuse box that gets power only when the ignition is on. You are right, the hard wire to the battery is keeping the pump on when the car is off. I guarantee the lift will operate without the key in the car. If it does, there’s your problem.

Quick alternator test, disconnect the negative while the car is running. If it dies then it's your alternator. If it keeps running its your battery.
But Dave has loads of mechanical know how, if the charger is not working throw it in the grass, to disconnect something use a hammer or a steak knife and if that does not work drive over or through it with a Hummer.

Dave you must come to South Africa, especially Cape Town. It's top 5 of the most scenic cities in the world. You may never want to go back and it's do cheap here for you guys. Ratio is R18 to 1$. Our roads and passes are stunning. We have very few cops patrolling so you can get up to some shenanigans!
Don't forget to say it's also very dangerous place. My dad was twice in South Africa and I was twice in South Africa. Guess what, both of us were attacked each time... My dad was even stabbed with a knife but luckilly he survived. And I had guns pointed at me two times. No thank you. Noone should visit South Africa for their own safety.

SOUTH AFRICAN visit is a must. The roads are good, just depends on where you plan on visiting. Our car culture is crazy, you''ll have to bring Mike Essa along to experience OUR interpretation of drifting (spinning). Our car meets/show include car dyno, sound off, show and shine....you guys have to get involved in this. I am from Durban on the East Coast (one of the cities you must visit). We have a vibrant, diverse culture here with a huge love for food and cars. Cape Town and Johannesburg are the other cities that offer different car events as well. I am sure if the word gets out that you guys are visiting, the car guys will all show up...Thank you for the recognition of our fire fighters in the vlog...👍
You guys should one day do a live stream Q&A with the entire DDE team where you just hangout and chat with your community and fans live. That would be a huge turnout and probably a crazy fun time.

Hey Dave. Put the car in neutral, hand brake off, start pushing the car(ask 2 or 3 people to do that), get the car rolling as fast as the pushers can, press clutch pedal down, put the car in 2nd gear and release the clutch. When the car pops into 2nd gear your car will start and you can drive away or stop and keep the car running to help battery charge.
I was just gonna comment this.
Very risky for fuel injection cars. Worse for Ferrari and their crazy electronics. Also, you have the risk of snapping the timing belt (if your engine uses one) or it jumping and going out of timing.
I feel hypocritical saying this, because I've done it many times, but I’ll never do it to a expensive car hahahaha

DDE should look into getting anti-gravity batteries for your cars. they dont go completely dead they will shut themselves off to leave some juice to jump start themselves.
A tender would work just fine. Dead batteries on high performance cars are due to neglect.

The roads in Cape Town are great, especially the routes in the winelands.....We have a car museum for you to envy, with many rare specimens.

@@Janderson2947 which is a very new concept for DDE but I guess the new "fans" haven't been around for more than a year so they moan every time there is no driving and that it ain't daily. When they created the stories channel they made it so that they could post something when they were making the vids for the main channel. So there was never a rule of it being main and stories every other day.

Dave, you need a CTek trickle charger and those cars need to be plugged up overnight so you have no problems the next day. Can't get lazy on that.. But you need an alternator though. You'll kill it if it's running a bad battery all the time.

You’re better to charge the battery fully first. Not use the alternator to do it, if possible of course.
Also, jugs are to be poured sideways. I used to do them with the spout to the top too, but I was wrong. Seriously, try it on its side. Life changing.

Don't let the alternator charge a really dead battery. Alternators are meant to charge and top off your battery once it drops to a certain point from full.
If you charge a dead battery with the alternator the alternator can overheat and also die.

If that lift is still pulling a current I suggest you disconnect it until further instances of fixing it because when trying to jump it that is also drawing power even while you’re letting it charge making the amount of time you’ll need to wait longer.
