    That GR cab and the Legacy are the perfect "one trip from the car to the gig" rig. And it has all of the GK mojo. Differences between the legacy and the 1001rb are so tiny they're indistinguishable.
    I love solid state amps that don't try to sound like tube amps and have their own thing going on like GK's
    Very cool video.

    Sounded pretty similar overall, with the same timbre, but the 1001RB a little bassier, the Legacy a little brighter. Something that can be adjusted with a little EQ. So far no real arguments for choosing the heavier 1001RB over the compact, lightweight Legacy. But I loved the 1001RB driven hard in the end, this sounded really tube-like! Can you get the same sound from the Legacy? Or could the Fusion come closer?

      I agree they are very similar - probably the same with a little EQ. For me, lighter = better. However, Fusion is quite different. It's more on the tube side (Ampeg like). Both great amps, and I like they are different (Fusion and Legacy).

    Great comparison. Like an other comment say, I agree with the fact both are very similar, but a little more of bass for the 1001RB.
    On stage situation I think I do prefer the legacy one with more clarity.
    Thank you for this video.

    The Legacy is a tad crisper. The DI also sounds a little more transparent.

    thanks for this. been thinking about getting a 1001rb, to replace my gk 800mb (love the weight, but not totally happy with the sound, the flimsy controls, and it's not a perfect match for my cab, a bit too much power, but the 1001rb is a perfect match, and i like the bi-amp feature a LOT.) also, thanks for playing one of my dream basses, the stingray special h (even the exact same colour i want, the blueish sparkle, same colour as the 1st one of those i played and fell in love with, one of the nicest playing basses i've ever played.) was never much interested in the legacy, but it does sound pretty similar, maybe even a little better

    I just bought a gallien Kruger 750 a few days ago I don't think no amp can give you the plump thick and clean the gallien Kruger

    The Legacy head does sound good, and the distortion is smoother and seems to sound better to me - but that's through headphones, not live, in front of a cab or in a band context. I wonder if the additional low end from the 1001rb is coming from EQ only or its ability to push current through a driver.
    I'd also like to experience the "feel" of each amp in person, which is something a recording can't convey. I've found class D amps don't compare to the class H architecture of an RB series amplifier and its ability to cause speakers to cry for mercy due to the transient power they can deliver.
    With the 700rb head I used to own, I could only get it into the "grind" zone with the master volume high and adding boost - and it was so loud, bordering on causing structural damage to the building I was in. I was using two Phil Jones Bass 9b cabs, which were the only cabs I've used with an RB series head that could really take that kind of power.
    That said, I'm eyeing a 1001rb local to me that I hope to pick up as a backup and eventually to power some more PJB cabs. They are excellent amps, especially for a live band context.

      @@ObraBass what made you choose the legacy over the fusion?

    • @ObraBass
      @ObraBass  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alessandroc.6876 It's a bit complicated, but here it is... After Fusion combo, I bought Ampeg Pf-T50 - full Tube amp and a cabinet for it. My Fusion was combo so I wanted a head, but couldn't found Fusion S head anywhere. Instead it I found a Legacy head, and because I already had full tube Ampeg, that was OK to have one tube and the other one Class D. If I had to choose only one head, it would be the Fusion S, although it is a bit too complicated to use and setup. Fusion sounds much more similar to Ampeg, probably because of the tubes in the preamp, so the one reason more to have two different heads. Hope my explanation helped 😅
