    I hope you make a video about Shadow's japanese voice actor Koji Yusa, I love how soft spoken his portrayal of Shadow's voice is & it doesn't feel unfit.

      I love Koji's portrayal of Shadow so much. It really does feel like he takes on the character in a very different way than the English VA's did.
      After beating the new Shadow Generations, I went back to watch the cutscenes in Japanese and it's so good.

    Could you make videos about the other characters and their Japanese portrayals, like how Silver sounds awesome, Knuckles sounding aggressive, how NOT forceful Amy sounds?

    • @SilverKibi
      @SilverKibi  2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      I find Silver's Japanese voice actor extremely interesting. Since from 06 to a game like Forces, his VA sounds completely different even though it's still the same person.
      It also caught me off guard at first with how deep his voice is in the Japanese dub, I really like it.
      I may do more videos like this in the future, but I may do it as a combo so I can talk about a handful of voice actors at a time.
      Since there was just a lot to talk about with Jun'ichi's performance in particular.

    It really warms my heart that he's been the voice for this long, the closet voice actor the US has had that matches his tone, inflections and such was probably Ryan Drummond, on any repeat playthroughs of more recent titles I always play with Japanese dub because his voice just FEELS so Sonic to me, I've grown on Rodger Craig Smith quite a bit but Kanemaru just *IS* Sonic to me. Always look forward to more from him.

      I think all Sonic VA's have done the role justice.
      And while, I'll always have my personal biases to the games I grew up playing.
      I really think Jun'ichi understands Sonic as a character so well that he literally encompasses him.
      Such a talented man!

      In Japan, they'll often use the word "Kuso."
      It's kinda like how in English you'd say dang or damn. But, it could also translate literally to "Shit." So I'm guessing Jun'ichi just wanted to use the English version of Kuso, since saying Kuso is still considered fine since it's not a swear in Japan.

    Why does the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise still have some Japanese culture references if it's more popular in Western? Still the Sonic main canon series are from Japan and was created in Japan in the first place.
    Some Sonic the Hedgehog media and Japanese culture/anime style appeal comparion examples
    1. The Sonic anthropomorphic animal characters' Modern designs have a more anime-oriented style, resemble to some classic japanese/anime characters, Chibi-like anime characters/dolls/figures like Meowth from Pokémon, and even some non-anthropomorphic animal Modern Sonic characters like the humans from both the Sonic Adventure game and Sonic X anime, Maria Robotnik in the Shadow Genrations game, Sonic X anime, and the japanese Sonic Channel website artworks, the Chao creatures and human-like characters like Shahra, Merlina the Wizard, Sage, Lah, and females of Cosmo's species' designs have a more anime-oriented style as well.
    2. Most the Sonic anthropomorphic animals' Modern designs' eyes similar to some classic japanese/anime characters' big eyes with small vertical pupils and irises like for example some 1-3 generation Pokémon, some 1-3 generation Pokémon human characters, some Mega Man characters, some Keroro human characters, some The Racing Brothers: Let’s & Go!! human characters, some Fighting Foodons characters, Pete from the first Harvest Moon gameboy game, the Samurai Pizza Cats from Samurai Pizza Cats, some Ghost Sweeper Mikami human characters, Dragon of the Sun Bal Dragon from Future Card Buddyfight, and Hokuto from Beyblade Metal Saga, and Atsuko Kagari from Little Witch Academia.
    3. Amy, Cream and Vanilla's clothes are similar to some Lolita fashion, some of Amy's clothes similar to some Chibi-like anime girl dolls like both some Pretty Cure playset dolls' outfits and Ojamajo Doremi bootleg keychains and figurines' outfits, Amy's dress similar to for example both Roll's original dress and some of Ms. Mari's dresses from one of her concept arts from Mega Man, Chen's dress from Touhou Project, Yorin/Yorang's dress from Hey Yo Yorang, The Powerpuff Girls Z's dresses, and the Ojamajo Doremi bootleg keychains and figurines' nurse outfits, and Cream's dress similar to two Sonic Adventure young human girl NPCs' dresses and Molly Hale's dress as 10 year old from Pokémon.
    4. Sonic, Shadow and Silver as hedgehogs has quills as anime spikey hairstyles, Tails has hair antennae/ahoge anime hairstyle and Amy's hair bangs similar to Pete's hair bangs from Harvest Moon.
    5. Tails is a fox with more than one tail as Kitsune and the Zeti are based off of Oni demon from japanese folklore.
    6. Amy's Piko Piko Hammer weapon is based on the popular japanese children's toy of the same name.
    7. Cream resemple to Kawaiiko japanese/anime characters, Knuckles resemble to some fighting-type Pokémon, Rouge resemble to some sexy japanese/anime demon girls like Morrigan from Darkstalkers, and Sticks the Badger resemble to few japanaese characters Aika from Skies of Arcadia, Cham-Cham from Samurai Shodown and the jungle boy Tommy from Pokémon, and Eggman resemble to two Ghibli anime characters, Motro from Castle in the Sky and Kamajī from Spirited Away.
    8. The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise also has two anime adaptation, "Sonic X" which is more adpated to some of the japanese Sonic games and the "Sonic the Hedgehog" OVA movie.
    9. Even Sticks the Bager, a non-Japanese Sonic character has appeared in some japanese Sonic medias as well, she appeared both in two japanese Sonic games "Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games" and "Sonic Runners", a japansese one-shot comic/manga "Sonic Comic" and has her own Sonic Channel profile.

      Well, Sonic has always kinda been a fusion of Japanese and Western culture. I know you said their designs are similar to stuff like Meowth from Pokemon, but actually Sonic was created before Pokemon was even a thing. His original design was actually more inspired by Mickey Mouse.
      Not to mention Sonic actually released in the US before it released in Japan which is interesting.
      I think some of the more noticeable Japanese references is stuff like the super forms being references to Super Saiyan's from Dragon Ball.
      Or things like how the director said the Knight from Frontier's was partially inspired by Goemon Ishikawa from Lupin the 3rd.
      There's also references to popular anime like Detective Conan in the Japanese dub of Sonic X too, which is super interesting!
      To me, it's super cool seeing Sonic be this bridge between cultures. I think it really helps bring people together which is awesome!

    • @SilverKibi
      @SilverKibi  2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Some scenes were removed from the American dub of Sonic X. So technically if you watch all of Sonic X subbed it's almost like a different show. XD
      It's very strange when sometimes they don't release games or shows in languages for other countries. Like how both Sonic Rivals games were never released in Japan. Really makes me feel bad for Japanese Sonic fans. They never got to hear race to win. 😔

    I wish when playing these games in japanese, as i like to do as well, the in game subtitles weren't dubtitles. But even so the japanese voices are spot on and in most cases feel more original, as with some exceptions like frontiers, colours and generations i think the games are written in japanese first, right?

    • @SilverKibi
      @SilverKibi  วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      I believe Sonic games were Japanese first up until around Colors. I could be wrong so don't quote me on that. However, I know for a fact that Frontiers was made in English first. As Japanese fans at the time were pretty upset with how weird Sonic was in that game haha.
      As for getting better subtitles. If you are on PC there are many retranslation mods you can try out and I would 100% recommend. It actually made me change my mind about Forces with how much more interesting the Japanese dub was.

      I still love all the English voice actors. But I think playing with Jun'ichi's voice as Sonic is just so amazing. It feels really entuned with his character.
      So I definitely see where you're coming from.

    Hey curious what song did he sing in English

    • @SilverKibi
      @SilverKibi  14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @EthanMartin-ui2gq He's done many covers. Though a lot of his original music seems to be played at jazz parties in Japan.
      So there's not a ton of audio for it.
      I put a link to the song I used at the end as well as a link to a playlist someone made for a few of his covers.
      One of the most popular ones he's sung is video killed the radio star.
      Definitely recommend checking them out.
