He's captain of team Japan that just had a perfect tournament to bring glory to their country. He might want post-season success, but he doesn't need it. He played for Japan - that's the most important thing right there. "It's an exhibition." Lol, you prefer to watch your profit-driven pro-games. "We didn't have our best players." So from the horse's mouth, your best players prioritize their commercial engagements over representing their country. That is the quality of athletes you have? Won't move if there's not a huge paycheck or endorsement dangled in front of them? Seems to me there's a reason the rest of the world prefer to watch the WBC. For the rest of the world, the WBC is a bigger stage than your World Series.
Ohtani is both MJ and Steph of this generation's baseball. 1. Global ambasador for the sport... US may say the WBC is an exhibition sport.. but the traction says otherwise. Ohtani and WBC showed the world how exciting baseball can be. Ohtani is bringing it to a global level similar on how Jordan was the poster boy noy only for the NBA, but for basketball in general. 2. Ohtani completely changed the landscape for future players. Remember when shooting a pull up 3 in a fast break would make your coach bench you for the whole game? And then Steph Curry did it at a high level and completely changed the landscape of the NBA? Yeah, Ohtani's dominance in both pitching and hitting is starting to do that for baseball. I hope he leaves the Angels and goes to a culture that actually wins games. And I hope Americans baseball fans realize how good Ohtani is for the dying sport (atleast in the US)
Nice try but obviously irrelevant. Ohtani is doing things no one has ever done....EVER... 2 elite skills at the same time... there is clearly no comp, especially anyone in a completely different sport.

"You're playing in the major leagues." Ok, and you just mentioned how the viewership for the WBC dwarfs that of the MLB, so what is this talk about, "you need to do it on the MLB stage..." I don't understand how Rob can be a baseball writer with a hall of Fame vote and not understand that one guy can't do everything on a baseball team. Ohtani pitches 1/5 of the games. He hits 1/9 of the at bats. "Make the playoffs." Tell his teammates that.
US people always say that they did not have the best. but i feel saying it is so disrespectfull to all the players who played WBC. not only american players. does not matter it is the fact. you could say i wanted him to play for next wbc is just fine instead of insulting great hard work proffesional players. and the another fact is that US only scored 2 at the final. it was not pichers fault at all. it is shame to underrate other countries by saying US did not try hard.
All of the players in team USA are in MLB, and Japan only have 3-5 players play in MLB What is Rob talking about, there are not too much GREAR player playing for team USA
What's really a shame is that Trout has only been in one postseason series, and they were swept. Way back in 2014. Pathetic. Bad job by the Angels. Trout is wasting his career in Anaheim. They need pitching and fail every year. Ohtani is leaving that train wreck soon.
Rob is behaving like the classic “ugly American” on this subject. If Ohtani says that’s the most important game of his career, then that’s it. Second guessing his feelings on the matter??
I think all he has to do is look at his fellow countryman Ichiro’s career. While there’s no doubting Ichiro’s greatness, the one glaring omission is he never won a championship.
Glaring omission? Are you kidding? Winning a World Championship ring doesn't mean you are great. Ichiro is great, yet he didn't win a ring. There are bench players that won rings, but they weren't great. Winning is when greatness meets opportunity. Sometimes, great people just didn't have the opportunity. Ohtani will get the chance to play for another team during free agency.
The tournament was good but the ending was incredibly overrated. It was a typical end of game were a closer that's fresh strikes out a batter that see's the closer for the first time in the game. The names involved didn't make that moment that much better.
“Best of the best” did the Japanese players beat some of the best of what USA had to give??? and USA made the sport this is a big deal to the rest of the world
Rob Parker should refrain from speaking baseball 😂 Wym you "cringed" at the fact that Ohtani claimed this victory as his biggest one?? Also, him saying that the US didnt have all of their best players is a bit of a stretch; yes, we didnt have the start pitchers, but our lineup was insanely stacked lol
Parker totally missed Ohtani's view point, it's a bigger deal from a foreign player representing his country with nationalistic pride, don't try and compare it with American players caring mostly about the $$, it's not his fault the Angels as a team can't pass the 1st round, and this guy's a sports journalist, SMH
Everybody needs to get off Ohtani's jock...he's a good player and unique but he's NOT the best player in the game. He's a good DH who pitches once a week. He NEVER plays the field and he's not the best pitcher or hitter in the league. Plus there's plenty of other guys who can do the same thing. Think of the #'s that Madison Bumgarner could've put up if he had been allowed to!
MLB, soccer, hockey golf and any other sport besides NBA or NFL don’t have to win championships or rings to get hundred of millions of dollars! But Lamar and lebrons of the world have to win every year while being paid way less then the Mike trouts of the world! How many rings does Mike trout has?
Rob's perspective is incredibly skewed. I'm gonna say something that will hurt a lot of my fellow Americans feelings. The MLB is not the highest tier of baseball in the world. In Japan alone, their best players often aren't the ones that go to the MLB. They make ridiculous money in their league and stay there. It's not like Basketball. Ohtani is a rare exception that maybe, will become less rare. But the fact is we just do not have the best players or the most competitive league anymore. In other words, the so-called "world series" is not the biggest stage.
SMH.... Rob STILL can't give complete props to Ohtani... He could literally give Rob a million dollars and he would ask ... "You mean yer not giving me 2?"
@@jrbnyc9898 Might be the narrative for some, NOT for Rob. He gives shade FAR more to Ohtani than Trout. He started the moment he was acquired by the Angels. Fact.

Yeah let's see him with the Yankees so he can justify the hype as the greatest player of all time. I will admit that he's a unique talent, but I am also not sold on him performing when fans are rooting against him
Can I just say, cause I keep hearing everyone say that Trout is the best hitter in the world, and he’s up there for sure… but Judge is the best hitter in the world, not Trout.. also I wanna say about Ruth since people like Colin Cowherd are saying he’s better than Ruth and it’s not close, that Ruth quit pitching at 24 and he’s just getting started. What made Ruth the best player ever has literally NOTHING to do with him having pitched, in fact had he never pitched and put up more home runs and other offensive stats his first few years instead of pitch, he’d be considered even better.. Ruth is considered the best ever cause he was hitting 50 homeruns every year at a time the next guy was hitting 3! And because he was hitting 350 every year while doing it also! The fact Ruth was a great pitcher before he became a full time outfielder, is icing on the cake at best, and is not close to being the reason he’s considered the GOAT!
Then Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russel is the GOAT over MJ in basketball, because Wilt destroy statistic comparing to players in his time, and Bill won 11 Rings?
@@tigera6 if you say so man, although there has only been one MJ like player in Baseball and that was Bonds, and if you don't care he was juiced up, as I said, Bonds is the best ever... Plus baseball is very different than basketball, like I said, while it's true similar to Wilt half the best players in the world were in a different league (ABA/Negro league) baseball is played taking turns one on one vs a pitcher, and while I don't doubt he didn't see pitching like those that came later saw, he still hit 50 jacks every year and was facing major leaguers every time he hit one. But I couldn't care less who you think is the goat, for me it's MJ.. My point is comparing Ohtani and Ruth doesn't make sense cause the part of Ruth's career that matters is the part where he no longer pitched, it actually makes more sense comparing him to judge since Judge is a better hitter than Ohtani is
He did so without steroids or any type of PED'S, most importantly without the absolutely juiced up Major League baseball, which is basically a large golf ball now days! Without 100 years of companies refining and finding the best way to make the hottest bats, and without video tape and studying every pitch and tendency every pitcher you face has, and a dozen other advantages to hitting a ball more often and further that players have today!
Also, now he has to play for something? what happen to loyalty Rob? what happen to making something happen where you play? what happen to not going to a team thats stacked? what happen to saying im ok where im at i dont have to team up? Hyprocrite Rob!

Rob talking about post season success? This is the same guy that talking down on brady and says he ain’t it. Comon bruh. Can’t even take you serious.
Watching Rob face light up talking about baseball is awesome
Jus don’t bring up Ohtani. He’s a JAG in Rob Parker’s eyes
@@bern717 Rob Parker can not wrap around in his twisted mind how a Japanese dude can be the best player the game of baseball has ever seen.
Can you guys stop talking baseball. Please.
Rob is a baseball guy first and foremost, so....
Yeah put pressure on these baseball and hockey players
facts they can stat pad with no expectation to win i don’t like it at all
1000%
Some Americans really do think the world revolves around.
I mean he hasnt won anything in the MLB so I can see this being his best moment , expeccially for his country.
Comparing ohtani to Melo is insane
We will welcome ohtani to houston perfect place for the Big stage
I get what you mean, but stop bringing Steph to this type of conversation. He's not that great.
@@hankyang2182 dude, I'm not a big fan of Steph... But anyone who's watched basketball for a while know how he changed the landscape of the game. If you can't acknowledge his greatness, then you're just hating.
@@sb17146 You're crazy. What do you mean hating? Steph is one of the top 15 players of all time in my opinion. But I don't think he change the game for a good way and not to mention you try to compare him to MJ and Shohei Ohtani here. That is disrespectful. That doesn't mean I hate him. Your argument is so stupid.
@@hankyang2182 doesn't matter if you think it's good or bad, Steph changed the game and made 3 point shooting the staple in the modern NBA. And yes, it that sense Ohtani is like Steph.
NBA all star is an exhibition, WBC is not.
Lmao "he's still not the mvp" yeah because you need to have a historical season like Judge just to edge Ohtani out.
Rob Parker speaking like a true slave master.
How they forget.
If I was Yankees get rid of some contracts on their rost sign igtanis imagine judge and igtanis back to back
US people always say that they did not have the best. but i feel saying it is so disrespectfull to all the players who played WBC. not only american players. does not matter it is the fact. you could say i wanted him to play for next wbc is just fine instead of insulting great hard work proffesional players. and the another fact is that US only scored 2 at the final. it was not pichers fault at all. it is shame to underrate other countries by saying US did not try hard.
All of the players in team USA are in MLB, and Japan only have 3-5 players play in MLB
What is Rob talking about, there are not too much GREAR player playing for team USA
What's really a shame is that Trout has only been in one postseason series, and they were swept. Way back in 2014. Pathetic. Bad job by the Angels. Trout is wasting his career in Anaheim. They need pitching and fail every year. Ohtani is leaving that train wreck soon.
American teams win in contact/collision sports games.
I guess the World Cup is just an exhibition too…what are they talking about lol
Rob should be congratulated for he outshined Stephen A., Keith Olbermann, and Mike Russo for the worst baseball takes.
These mlb guys like Rob are too scared to give the world baseball classic a lot of credit because they worry that they are undermining mlb somehow.
The tournament was good but the ending was incredibly overrated. It was a typical end of game were a closer that's fresh strikes out a batter that see's the closer for the first time in the game. The names involved didn't make that moment that much better.
“Best of the best” did the Japanese players beat some of the best of what USA had to give??? and USA made the sport this is a big deal to the rest of the world
Rob Parker should refrain from speaking baseball 😂
Wym you "cringed" at the fact that Ohtani claimed this victory as his biggest one?? Also, him saying that the US didnt have all of their best players is a bit of a stretch; yes, we didnt have the start pitchers, but our lineup was insanely stacked lol
Parker totally missed Ohtani's view point, it's a bigger deal from a foreign player representing his country with nationalistic pride, don't try and compare it with American players caring mostly about the $$, it's not his fault the Angels as a team can't pass the 1st round, and this guy's a sports journalist, SMH
Then the Olympics are an exhibition too. I'm getting sick of the USA, USA, USA.
Angels weren’t good enough before him & still aren’t with him, I doubt his goals are the same as yours Rob
大谷翔平選手の事を語ってくださって、有難う!He is just a baseball boy who wants to win the game and hates to lose.
Does HE need the success or do we (Americans)?
Everybody needs to get off Ohtani's jock...he's a good player and unique but he's NOT the best player in the game. He's a good DH who pitches once a week. He NEVER plays the field and he's not the best pitcher or hitter in the league. Plus there's plenty of other guys who can do the same thing. Think of the #'s that Madison Bumgarner could've put up if he had been allowed to!
Typical that USA “people” give an excuse to a great game but then cry about nba all stars and nfl pro bowl lol plz be better
100 million wow mlv needs to get over there to get tv recebuecompared to USA rating haha
same excuse every time u.s. basketball or baseball loses
"we didnt bave our best players playing"
b.s.
just not good enough
Rob is at the “get off my lawn” point in his life, retire already.
If we had our best pitchers( Verlander, scherzer, cole, etc ) we would easily beat Japan, and we were missing judge,
SMH.... Rob STILL can't give complete props to Ohtani... He could literally give Rob a million dollars and he would ask ... "You mean yer not giving me 2?"
What's wrong with him saying he needs to win to prove that he's the "greatest?"
@@templeoftheking2848 Does he say that about Trout?
@@greggibson33 there’s a HUGE narrative that trout can’t win when it matters
@@jrbnyc9898 Might be the narrative for some, NOT for Rob. He gives shade FAR more to Ohtani than Trout. He started the moment he was acquired by the Angels. Fact.
@@greggibson33 Trout should be in the same boat
stop trying to force the yankees to get this guy and be in the post season
winning is not everything
barry bonds one of the very best hitters ever
one world series and lost
this is just the way baseball is ;deal with it
Yeah let's see him with the Yankees so he can justify the hype as the greatest player of all time. I will admit that he's a unique talent, but I am also not sold on him performing when fans are rooting against him
my goodness gracious...........
Rob why are u putting all the responsability on ohtani? Isn't Mike Trout on the team too? Oh right he's American so he gets every excuse.
Americans don't have national pride like other countries. I bet winning wbc might be better than world series to japanese, Dominicans, etc 😊
Also, now he has to play for something? what happen to loyalty Rob? what happen to making something happen where you play? what happen to not going to a team thats stacked? what happen to saying im ok where im at i dont have to team up? Hyprocrite Rob!
So Barry bonds is trash cause he never won a title, according to Rob Parker. 🙄🙄
So this is the classic . Oh its not our league it's only the rest of the world. So baseball is not important if its not American. What a put off for people interested because of this
