Been Fiber glassing for a while. Instead of putting the matting on there get yourself a wet board and soak the matting on the board then apply it to the repair will stop air holes, Air hole equal Pinholes and can over time crack the fiberglass. also a roller to push the air out of the resin mix. With mixing just mix it like Bog / body filler what ever ya want to call it. more hardener in colder days less in hotter.
I'm a sprayer in England a small tip I have if you need to fibreglass round sharp corners and you can't get the matting to stay down dip it in your tub of resin take it back out and leave in to soak for a few seconds then put a to in place and it will stay where you want it. Oh Ye 50 pence peace over here. And we also call filler, bog. Nice video
i know you said your not a fiberglass expert but next time, use one piece of fiberglass and rip the edges. cutting small pieces doesnt really make any sense and plus you leaving a hard edge by cutting it. it will be easier to feather the edges. good job though. glad to see you reinforced the back of the crack. thats the most important part in a fiberglass repair.
Great video ! I don't get to work on fiberglass too often. This video was a refresher class for me ! Actually all of your top notch videos are like going back to auto body school, and fun as well ! I have learned much more on your channel than anywhere else ! Thanks Gunman ! : )
Loved the video. I have a project that’s not a car but a very rare BMX from the 80s it’s a Hutch HPV most probably the only one left in existence in Australia that’s complete. The fairing is cracked and very brittle so I’m reinforcing it with fibreglass and this has made me feel very confident I can save it ! Cheers and keep these vids going love your channel bruva 🤙🍻
Been watching your channel for several months now... Very instructive and cool vids...Keep producing... Has helped my painting and prep work a lot... Greetings from Belgium...
My first time using fibreglass I used too much catalyst. Came back to check on my work about 10 minutes later and it was smoking haha. Great vid mate. Also good to see the number of your subscribers is more and more every time I watch one of your vids. Keep it up man.
A real stroke of luck; I found your fiberglass video I just happen to have a very large R.V. bumper with cracks; thank you for producing such an informative D.I.Y. fiberglass repair video; PATRICK.P
Great vid Gun, I built my whole body kit for my cordia but NEVER put glass on the outside of the panel...........I rather just Veed the panel and filled with bog........that way you don't end up with a high spot on where the panel was joined.............great vid!
Another brilliant Vid jeeez you make all these repairs look easy picked up a heeeap of tips tyvm for sharing cobba got a Honda Del Sol to have a crack at.
Hey bud, I have a serious question for ya, hopefully I can find a quick answer: My Nissan 350z's new fiberglass body kit bumper is a little wide and pushing the tip of the fender where it meets up with the headlight outward, creating a gap. So I installed little brackets to pull the bumper closer to the car but still have a gap where the bottom of the headlight, the tip of the fender and the bumper meet... The question is; Can you ADD onto a bumper? I was thinking of a possibility adding fiberglass onto the bumper to fill the gap and MAKE it look like new.
Hi Gunman, I recently purchased a 78 xc falcon , I'm trying to find out a way to know if it has any fibreglass repairs around the car ? Thanks GM , Saul
The old magnet trick is the cheapest way, but obviously not that reliable. Alternatively you can buy a micrometre, it measures the distance between the top layer and the metal.
Hi I'm from the United States I been learning auto body from a really good friend for about three years but I'm on my own now and I really want my clear coat to be flat and no orange peel I paint at night at a mechanic shop and I have the flg4 devilbiss and I want to buy the gti pro lite but I hear the tekna pro lite is the same ? Or what would you recommend thanks for your videos btw
Yes the tekna pro lite is basically the same gun, 2 differences are the colour and air valve get the 1.3mm te20 and your work will improve over night. Good luck mate and thanks for watching.
@@TheGunmanChannel overnight cause he paints at night! i like the gti pro lite, and i have my clear lay really flat, moreso on the horizontal panels. I heard you say once that it is impossible to get rid of all orange peal on a vertical surface, just physics.
Hi. I'm joining a snapped spoiler lip with fiberglass. I fiberglassed the rear only, i didn't realise i need to fiberglass the front aswell. Should i do the front like you did or will just the back be alright?
hey mate you might find you get a better result with the matt if you get some fibreglass rollers probably a bristle roller and A frame :) great vid though mate
Nice! Lots of great little tips and pointers in here. Fiberglassing has been high on my list of things to play around with, so I'm always happy to see stuff like this. :D Any thoughts on using high-fill primers to correct pinholes in body filler?
So I Found it locally way to over prized they told me 650 or 590 with a business account so I'm considering just getting the gti pro lite eBay ? What do you think
Im scared the new paint wont match with my current paint. I know theres a specific number color but my car is kind of old so the paint has faded. Any tips on what to do ? I dont want to end up with spots of different shades of color on my bumper
Hey Mate, Good vid. Working on repairing my Skyline R33 bumper at the moment and this has really helped me out. Question, for the fiberglass matting should all the paint and primer be removed before applying matting?
@@TheGunmanChannel Thanks for the advice :) By the way watched heaps of your videos over the last few months. They are really good and informative. Keep up the good work and keep the vids coming! If you were here in Melbourne I would give you my car to get done!
I’m having an awful time making minor imperfections disappear on my panels. After filling I used 80 grit followed by 400 grit wet/dry and despite feeling smooth to the touch they can still be seen through my fill primer (2coats) and now satin paint (2 coats) ....help!
Matthew C 400 grit is too rough still, you need to go much finer. You could use a spray filler/primer which would fill the scratches then sand lightly with 1000+ grit.
OK, I have the finer paper, but used a filling primer from Halfords to do the job, and it didn't really fill as expected, any of the gelcoat scratches. Is there a better brand I should use?
You are smart to wear gloves. Kinda wonder at exposed arms when sanding. Ive done boat fiberglass but years ago, when I wasn't smart about protection for skin and lungs :(
Rather than blunt cut edged to the cloth, I was taught to tear some fibers off and make that edge fade in a bit. Also with FG, it's not just a coating or smoother, so get it in those cracks and both surfaces.
Your calling this fiberglass but isn’t it smc. I was told fiberglass resin won’t stick to smc unless it epoxy. I’m repairing my Ford F-150 quarter panel and was warned not to use polyester resin that it would fail eventually. Smc has release agent built in no’s from sticking. Also rip don’t cut the fiberglass.

Acetone is useful for for cleaning prior to fibreglassing, also good for cleaning tools after filling or fibreglassing.

Gunny best to add some glass tissue to the top of the CSM to stop print-through into the paintwork as the glass ages and shrinks.
alot of good information. good video

Is this normal speed? Some parts seem very slow or i drank too much coffe :)

Matthew C Autotek AT000FP500 500ml Filler Primer Spray Paint www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004ZJIM8O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_cIseBbKD7ZBEA

Can I do this on a fibreglass boat
Absolutely, but do a good job, I will not be held responsible if you sink 🤣
I like 3M Kitty Hair.....comes in long strand or short....goes on in the same fashion as body filler.
