Great episode. You do a great job of explaining and then demonstrating. We have old countertops that seem to be absorbing liquids and staining. They always feel tacky too. Time to go and you just made me a hero and save me a ton of money. This will be next summer's project, so I can open the windows and use the whole house fan to suck out the fumes. Thank you so much. Truly appreciate you sharing this with us.
Nice job. You make it look so easy. I will be selling a rental property in a year and normally I do most of the renovation work myself, however I’m getting a little older now, and I don’t have a router so I’m going to be looking for someone with your skills to do new kitchen counters before I sell. Now I know what to expect. Thanks.
Can you use a primer on the counter particle board then put the rubber cement on? Thinking the primer would help keep the cabinet in better shape "if" there was a water leak. But worried the cement wouldn't bond properly.
I love that Wilsonart pattern. I think it looks a lot nicer to skip the 4" backsplash and just tile directly down to the countertop. But since you were not tiling, that turned out really nice looking.
When you show the bullnose with the blue tape I see the seam between the bullnose and the counter top, but when you show the finished job I don't see a seam. Is there more to the process that eliminates the seam?
After everything is set, you run a file or sanding block along the edge, the seam becomes a black hairline that disappears into the pattern. This is the same with these types of counteracts. Great observation and question!
Great video! I am looking to update my current laminate countertops with this Wilsonart product. How cost effective is the Wilsonart product as I will need to use professionals to do the job?
@@DadItYourselfDIY thank you for the reply. It did bring up another question..this sheet is over 100 bucks for 8 ft. An entire new laminate countertop is 130. Why did you decide to go with this? The Formica countertop is just as easy to cut as the sheet.
if i wanted to use contact cement with new laminate on what appears is already laminate countertops (i’m renting an apartment and want to be able to reverse the diy), would i be able to use a product to remove the glue without damaging the original countertop?
The bullnose edge comes pre-made from WilsonArt there is a link in the description. I show how to put it on about 8:00 into the video. Thank you for watching and the comment!
Question if I may? I want to hire pro's to come redo my laminate countertops. Now I know that counter tops can be de-laiminated (with a heat gun or hairdryer) and to me then you don't have to do a rebuild on the MDF and all the seaming and so on and so on....but no companies will do that. They all say "we only do new builds...we come measure, build new ones with your new laminate in our shope, then deliver and install in one afternoon." I get that is easier for them but more cost to me. Are they lazy or just want avoid the hassle and mess of doing it all "in home?"
Most of the time, they do not want the liability of building on top of someone else's substrate. It's a warranty issue. Really, the cost is probably the same because they don't need to delaminate and prep. They are starting fresh.

oh I had that golden rod yellow lol. Thanks Scott
It was hideous!!

@@DadItYourselfDIY it turned out great, the bullnose really brought it up a level
Excellent video. Thanks for your shared skills/wisdom. Peace and all the best. 👍
Thanks for the kind words!

I wouldn't. The bond would definitely be affected.
@@DadItYourselfDIY Thank you for the feedback.

Looks good! I wish my counters were in good enough shape to recover they could use an update!
Take a shot!
Great video! I am looking to update my current laminate countertops with this Wilsonart product. How cost effective is the Wilsonart product as I will need to use professionals to do the job?
This job will cost you between $1000 and $2000 depending on how much material and what their rate is. Could be more, could be less.
@@DadItYourselfDIY Thank you!!!
You're very welcome!
@RB-gt8bf You're welcome.
How did you laminate the bullnose? Did you have to heat the laminate to get it more pliable?
It comes from the manufacturer that way! Very convenient. homedepot.sjv.io/AW0zoj
Do you know if the bullnose can be heated to bend it around a corner?
Not sure. But I don't think so. It's not a plastic substrate.

Hi, thank for sharing! what is the name of the tool you used to cut around the edges of the counter??
Trim router
Thank you so very much!
@luisrosas3012 Glad it helped!
Great Job!!😊
Thanks!!
How’d you make seams look so good where bullnose edge met countertop?
Took my time and used a small file to keep them flat. Do the surface first then apply the bullnose.
What did you do to get the back splash to mount on uneven wall .Having that issue now
Wall wasn't uneven for me. But scribing and grinding drywall are your options.
Looks great. ... Quick question, what exactly is the sheet called that you layed on top of the countertop?
Wilson Art Calcutta Marble laminate. Link in the video description

I would have had to buy two 8 foot pieces, a left and a right. And all but 2 feet of the right piece would have went in the trash.
Thanks for the great feedback! I was really happy with the results!

Acetone should remove any glue residue without damaging the surface. Be careful in around seams.
Looks soooo good Scott!! Love it!
Thank you #1 Fan!
Good job
Thank you!
Nice job!!
Thanks!!
What glue did you use?
Regular Weldwood Contact Cement
Why mdf so close to faucet? Easier to laminate than wood?
I just replaced the laminate on the existing substrate. Cabinets are made from MDF?!
Great job
Thanks!!
What the heck? It's an improvement with the new countertop. The kitchen is so tight, is this a rental apartment?
It is a rental!
Thank you thank you thank you!! Just the video I needed. 👷🏾♀️💛

Man I wish you showed how you finished the edges 😢
Ty for the video anyway

What’s a good budget to hire someone for a job like this?
About $1000-$1200

I WORK AT WILSONART 😂 NEVER WOULDA THOUGHT IT WAS USED FOR THIS
Really? What did you think it was used for?
@@DadItYourselfDIY For Wall installations Like something that goes over the drywalls
Like paneling for sure. But I would bet it's used for countertops way more often.
that router made the job easy
It is a necessity on a project like this!!
Cost of the project? And if I were hire someone to do it for my rental how much for the labor (same size like yours) ?
This job was $1300. Materials were $300 of that.
@@DadItYourselfDIY thanks so helpful !

Mdf will not last very long.
That's why we put laminate on them. The original counters were from 1979. I think they are holding up just fine.
Eew
It looks amazing for the budget!
