  • Bali Bodyboarding Owner and Operator Aidan Salmon takes a deep dive in to the subject of flippers for bodyboarding. Sharing his knowledge accumulated over 30years of bodyboarding and 15years of coaching other bodyboarders Aidan shows you how to size your flippers and what features to look for so that you maximise comfort and propulsion whilst minimising the risk of getting the dreaded 'fin rubs'. Thanks for the video. I’m switching to some Hydro Tech 2 fins cause my asymmetrical limited edition Sylocks have aggravated one of my ankles but before that i could feel them straining a bit with every session. My wife already has Hydro Tech 2 for exactly the same reason and she loves em.

    Since I'm 220 lbs, I find that "Vipers" work best. I use booties with these. I love "Da Fins" too, and I don't need booties because they're extra comfortable. However, Da Fins snap on bigger waves. In 2014, both my Da Fins snapped when a freak 10-foot wave came in at Pipe and I got caught inside. Thought I was going to die.

    Thank you for the video! Getting ready to buy a pair of bodyboard fins before I move to Costa Rica! I was going to buy the Churchill fins because of the shape for more drive. I have had full hip replacement surgery. After watching your video, now I know to buy symmetrical fins! Soft to medium compound. I have wide feet, so Limited Edition, Stealth or Viper fins! You really helped me out and helped me from making a wrong decision! Thank You!!!

    I found my best fit was manta blacks, cutting the tips off blunt cut style, saved on the sea ulcers. Was super comfy. but pricy and i believe hard to find these days

    Agree, fit is important. Still, to ensure an overall good experience regular training of your feet, ankles, shin and calf muscles and connective tissue is a good idea - some people put on a pair of fins with no never experiencing any physical exercise directly on the lower leg. If you have never exercised the lower leg in a direct manner, wearing any fin will cause some level of distress depending on your overall fitness level. Something as simple as regular walking in flat shoes with good space for your toes is a good start and eventually direct training of the lower leg to ensure a good and comfortable kick and traction on the wave.

    • @BalibodyboardingIndo
      @BalibodyboardingIndo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Allen. Sorry to hear about your 'fun' rubs. Have you tried them with socks on? Or if the socks make your feet too big and the fins no longer fit then try the 'heel shields' which wrap around the heel strap. Personally I use the Pride Vulcan V1s because the heel strap is cut lower so it doesn't rub on my ankle bone. This does mean that the heel strap is more likely to slip off under impact so its super important to have laces or flippers savers on.

    • @allenstevens8304
      @allenstevens8304 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks dude, the socks make my feet to big so I had to go with the ankle neoprene wraps with fin savers like you said!!! 😎🤙🏻🌊

      Personaly I didn't hesitated to cut the shoe of my fins at the location where there was severe rubs at the 5th metartasal bone tuberosity (you know the bump at the bottom of you foot little finger) which is quite large for me. Even with socks, it was still very painfull and one session will end up with a skin blister.
      Since I ravaged my fins I don't have this problem anymore and they haven't lost any quality for their purpose

    Nice video. I want to see a video with some scientific comparisons on flippers and also kicking style. You could do it in a pool, band around your waist with a cord to a scale to measure force. a hanging type fruit scale on its side would work. Also a speed test comparison of fins would be interesting too. Cheers

    I’ve been bodyboarding for over 25 years and still haven’t found the perfect fins for me. Churchills/limited edition are good for performance but cut my feet up badly. the old manta fins were too stiff and caused strain and foots cramps and average performance but didn’t cut my feet up. I remember the hydro fins where pretty comfy but control & performance average.
