- Today we take a look at Rolls Royce - PTF, GATE 8, Wilmore Rd, Derby DE24 9GJ.
We are joined by the the master himself @PJAudits once again.
As we look around at some large wooden crates with tarpaulined tops, a very polite and professional Mitie Security personnel comes over to speak with us.
We learn about a few engines that they handle here, and enquire about any access through the site.
We comment on the No Photography sign and I make it into an Emoji for members.

I know this lady! Jackie worked with us in security at Bloodstock Open Air music festival and when I met her, she is a wonderful nice person there too, the fans and crew love her and you can see why! Great appointment for the company here 👍

It’s like Jackie takes her job seriously and has gend up on rights to film laws on who what where and this gives her confidence when chatting to the public. Like they say good fences make great neighbours.

Many moons ago, I use to work for a partnered company of Rolls Royce that made the turbines for their engines, where I was in core removal. Many turbines are hollow, to allow air to pass between the aerofoils to keep the turbines cooler to prevent them melting from the tremendous heat these jet engines produce.
Jackie was very pleasant, and gathered plenty of info from you both. :)

An XWB engine is Extra Wide Bodied, it’s for the latest generation of wide bodied jets from Boeing and Airbus. I believe the latest reincarnation of the XWB engine is the upcoming UltraFan variant. As an ex RR employee I have been in that particular building on several occasions. Mitie has the contract for all RR sites, they supply security, cleaning and canteen staff. RR is a great company to work for and a brilliant set of guys to work with! Top marks to Jackie for being polite and professional. I always smile when I see the no cameras on site, nearly everyone I worked with at RR had a mobile phone with the obligatory camera attached to it.
