I do miss the old 1938 bone shaker stock from the island . They were so good and brought great character to your arrival to the island. And nice footage too of the old chuffer too at Havenstreet too. They sometimes have 1 of their Terroir class running . Awesome stuff
Hi Terry, yes a rollercoaster ride to Ryde on the trains was a must on the weeks holiday on the Island each year. Very much the equivalent of Blackpool’s old trams which have also now gone:-(( Thanks for watching what is now a piece of history!!
I remember the days of the old O2 tank engines when I went on holiday as a very small boy so I never cared for the LT stock that replaced it until now silly old me look what I have missed! This video has the best of both worlds 483s AND the O2 AND the Hovers and a wonderful sunset shot! Outstanding thanks so much for this!
Hi David, I hope that in 30 years time when the new 484s get replaced by cascaded S7 stock there will still be enthusiasts around to mourn their demise! Do plan a trip when happier times return as whilst the trains may have changed the Island seems just the same- a great place for a holiday. There’s a short video on my Channel from the same day of a ride on the steam railway which should also bring back happy memories- love the vintage 4 wheel coaches. Best wishes N
@@NedPooleD818 More on my holidays on the IOW; I went with my family as a very small boy in 1963 and again in 1965, and we stayed in Ventnor when there was still a railway station there! Thanks to my mother, I do have one British Railways steam "cop": O2 class No.W35 "Freshwater". As W35 was running round its train on arrival at Ventnor (in 1963), Mum called out: "Goodbye little 'Freshwater'!" I think during those holidays, we were also hauled by either "Sandown" or "Shanklin"; not sure...Happy days indeed! Oh and thanks for the "heart"!
Hi David - three in a row- if this was a fruit machine on Sandown Pier you would have just won a tenner !! Just seen the cover of Steam Railway - Calbourne is back in steam and looks great in green:-))

Would always sit in the rear car to watch the guard at work- he had godlike status especially as the train would depart at great speed but his door would still be open!! Happy memories:-))
At least the doors don’t blow open on the tube trains which I remember happening on the Pacers when they were first introduced!! It certainly was a lively ride particularly after a full English breakfast at the hotel each morning! Even more impressive was the guard who moved between the two cars whilst the train was at full speed! Best ride for me were the old Class 304 units- these had LNER bogies and massive softly sprung seats.....when I lived in Brum in the 80s every Saturday used to catch one up to Bescot to spot and cab the rows of 20s, 25s and 31s in the sidings there. Leaving Hamstead there was a 50 mph section and everyone would be bouncing in unison on the cushions with creaking noises coming from the springs!! Sadly no 304s preserved unfortunately:-((
Hi Marc, glad you enjoyed it:-)) I was hoping to get out on the Island again this month but sadly the ‘pit ponies’ have sought an early retirement! I’ve got some more footage from the week that I’ll upload in the future too:-))
Glad you enjoyed the video- I just wanted to capture a flavour of the trains being used by everyday commuters, shoppers and day trippers before they disappeared... Hopefully someone will save 004 although I hear it’s not in a great state now after this last day:-(
