I saw this video and it reminded me of the caregiver who came to bath my Mom when she was dying. My Mom was unconscious and had come home to my house to pass. The bather did a beautiful job cleaning her. She always smelled so lovely after she had been cleaned. In fact on the day she died the bather had attended to her that morning. It was such a comfort to know my Mom was clean when she died. Bless you to the people that provide this service, you are working angels.❤

I am taking care of bedridden elderly woman.. when doing patient care there are several things applied that is not taught during the studies.. It’s a common sense and compassion towards the patient.. Washing the patient properly is very important to avoid skin rashes that lead to a bed sores.. When caring of a bedridden person washing the hair ones a week is fine but washing the body needs everyday.. if the patient lives in a private home is always the best.. First take out the diapers and bed pads anything that is soak and wet.. change a new one except the diaper. step of daily care is washing the face with warm soapy water because elderly easily feels cold.. ( wear gloves) after washing the face go down the chest breast underarms and under the breast.. wash it with warm soapy water.. rinse it properly.. make sure no soap left of the skins because it still causes an itchy skin.. when done pat it to dry then cover the upper body.. then go down to the bottom.. change another gloves .. most bedridden patients gets very stiff both arms and legs.. the lower and upper extremities..(By the way caregiver needs to give some range of motion exercise daily.. ) wash it properly esp. the private areas, under the stomach skin fold down to the legs..rinse it properly don’t let soap left.. and change another gloves.. pat dry.. then turn the patient to side position.. start washing the upper back then down .. make sure that the rectum , anus and private part be properly clean with soapy warm water using a wash cloth.. some patient have hemorrhoids.. when done washing and patient dry the skin apply some moisture barrier cream or ointment.. bedridden patient really needs it so skin is protected of skin rashes from their pee. You can put a medicated powder after putting the moisture barrier cream or ointment.. then take out all those wet stuff out of the bed (bed pad) change the bed cover if it’s wet.and clean bed pad and diaper use material bed pad ( cloth) on the top is the disposable bed pad) then return the patient back to its position ,lie on the back.. check the skin under arm, under the breast and any skin fold, under the belly, under the neck.. if there’s a red mark just from lying down just put powder but if the skin rash looks like it is a fungus need to apply an anti fungal cream or ointment.. then the groin area the moisture barrier stuff.. if theres a hemorrhoid apply a cream or ointment for hemorrhoid.. then the weekly hair wash is the same process when doing the daily washing just add the washing of hair because it’s only once a week.. then during the day.. after the morning care ,changing the diaper several times , it needs washing every time the diaper change but if there is a pre rinse stuff that saves hassle.. but if there’s none just use a warm wash cloth and just wipe the private part , pat dry then apply again the moisture barrier stuff.. then watch areas which are most likely get a pressure sore, the heel, elbows, the butt etc.. This is the way how I do my patient care and with prayers thanks and praise God.. my patient is doing well..Doctors and nurses are giving me a complements of doing a good job.. There are so many things that a caregiver can do for their patients but sad some caregivers doesn’t care.. lazy!! but on their phone 90 percent..another tip whenever the patient get sick like a flu and cough.. the family always rely on drugs, cough meds antibiotic.. but it’s not good.. My patient got sick a bad whizzing cough and colds.. She had nebulize every 4 hours ,took cough meds, antibiotic but none of this works.. I feel bad if my patient because she can’t sleep and her respiration is sometimes 14 to 16 only.. I gave her a tea made of fresh organic ginger, lemon, raw honey and red onion.. Thanks and praise God that’s cures her.. then before I handled her care she took 200 different pills in one month 16 or more a day.. I discontinued it gradually..The sleeping pills is 4 x a a day made it ones,4 for water pills I took out 2,then for blood pressure 5 ,I took out 4 then for the moods 3 x I took out 3 n half.. and 1 for blood sugar finally since last year I only give her 1/4 of the sleeping pills(Ativan and 1 blood pressure pills.. I spoke to my patient doctor and told him that I discontinued some of my patient meds because it’s too much for her.. He responded me to do what am doing he said that I know what am doing.. The common problem of a bedridden person is the removing their bowel.. they tend to have a bloated stomach, got constipation,so caregivers should watch what the patient is eating..I spend my own money to buy an active probiotic pills for my patient and buy her good and healthy foods.. family are so stingy..

Good care from heart but what worked for your patient may not apply to others. Some of the actions you took were good but questionable. Did you follow up with clinician before reducing some of the medications and after doing that. I would say you are zealous and caring but wisdom should be applied in some of the actions. Unless you caring for your own and you know the person very well. It is crucial that our actions are backed by policy, guidelines, best practice and evidence based. 🙂

The problem in real life is that is always one person doing the bedbath. Hospice companies always have one per patient and the time is very limited. The pay is low and is hard work. Im a CNA and we have always 10- 12 patients. This profession callls for love and compassion and is not apreciated enough. Sometimes even family members are rude, nevermind the patients.

I'm a caregiver here in Italy my employers are not both bedridden, every day I cleaned them both, specially their private parts,if u don't wash it properly cleaning them is useless, bcz of odor are still there,I pay attention also with urderpit, neck, back of the ear, specially to the old lady I pay attention to her saggy belly,it can cause odor too if I can't cleaned it properly.
I used gloves and face mask for my own protection too, then after I cleaned them both I wash my hands and I used hand sanitizer...it's for my own good...

Hi Tammi, sorry for the delay I was checking with the nurse. This video is designed for relatives looking after their loved ones at home - so there is no need to wear gloves unless the person has an infectious disease (like there's no need to wear gloves when bathing a baby). Just wash your hands well afterwards.

I seen something wrong with this video. Are you teaching the up coming CNA's to not wear gloves while doing Patient Care? Because I will be confused if this was on the exam and if this was the videos that my director showed me to get my information. Everything else was great.

is Caregiving video tutorial about bathing since I'm about to take an assessment, but this video was not fully detailed, in our training, we are taught to wash the hair first, and you forgot to clean the armpit and the procedures were kind'a different the way you guys clean the legs, and in the face and the lack of gloves as well.
