good on ya mate, I'm a novis Diver, but I love being in the water, check out the Catlins at the moment... I'm yet to find a Paua, was diving in about 4m of water today saw about 3 small ones... Not sure where they are all hiding
Hey man I love your vids, just discovered your channel yesterday. I do the same exact stuff, but in California! It's really cool to see you getting out and diving over in the West Pacific. It's the same ecosystem there as CA basically, with the same animals too. Our crays are called CA spiny lobster, and our Pauas are not greenlip, but the green abalone haha, almost the same name. Sadly the abalone season closed indefinitely in CA after 2018 so I don't have any videos of me picking abalone.
closed? I thought you could take 3 a day. Mabey 3 was too much, too many people diving for them huh? the same will probably happen here eventually. Or mabey they'll just put heaps more restrictions on where you can get them.
Thanks for the motivation. Unlike you I ended giving up as it has just quashed so much of my energy that I find that it is not worth it. Good job for persevering!! I caught 1 though from the previous day.
yeah doesn't always work out with success though, as you know, sometimes the dive is just a fail, and you have to know when to pack up and call it quits. Back in 2019 when I was first starting diving, geez I had a LOT of unsucessful dives.
I done the same, looked and looked and looked for Paua, I was diving at that same spot but earlier that morning on the low tide. Ended up heading back towards chch and found a spot (eventually) that had nice size Paua I was aloud to take.
First day was the hardest
Great work
Awesome heading to kaikoura tomorrow for a look
