I’ve been reluctant to buy the portland leather tote because the handles looked so stiff. It’s nice to know that with enough use they will soften and get more floppy like yours

Yes! That's one thing I appreciated about them as well - the whole bag definitely softens over time.

I’m not a fan of madewell. I think they aren’t good quality. I prefer Portland Leather. Much better leather quality.
