That would be huge and impacting reveal. Hopefully this volume finally shows and explains what happened. It's one of the main things I want to find out, especially with how they keep bringing up Summer off and on.
@@emeraldmorgan6644 I got a theory on how that works I believe that there are GRIMM that are somewhat Human Specifically I believe there are People who can be mutated into GRIMM by the black pits Of Destruction
Who is the new grimm? A killed off character? Someone we thought was dead. Someone who 'died' early on. Someone Phoenix night theorized to come back in vol 8. Roman Torchwick.

@@Kovugamez So who would be the best person to call him out on his BS instead of coddle him like Ruby or Jaune would? This grim is so interesting I have so many things about this thing to analyze. When you make your hound video I’d like to point a few things you could talk about. For starters after knocking Oscar out it was surprisingly gently with how it was handling Oscar, holding him by his back and shoulders, keeping his head somewhat propped forward, when it sent Oscar down instead of just plunking him onto the ground it gently Oscar’s body down and then took extra care when setting down Oscar’s head. It seemed like it wasn’t taking any risks of Oscar getting hurt after his aura broke. Another thing is the fact that it’s carrying Oscar in its mouth instead of using its very functional hands..... But then I realized Oscar’s aura is broken, they’re going out into the tundra. Without his aura Oscar could very well freeze to death.... so what if the hound is carrying Oscar in its mouth to keep Oscar warm so he doesn’t freeze.
Once upon a time Dr. Obbleck said not all the grimms are dumb. They can learn. But even with this, this grimm is so smart of all. Maybe Salem made some modification or lectured, she is also grimm too.
I love this analysis and its so thought out. I never noticed how careful the grimm was towards Oscar. It's gonna be interesting how the scene continues since Yang, Ren and Jaune do go after it to try and save Oscar.
I know the Hound is most likely a reference to The Big Bad Wolf, but it’s also Salem’s own version of the Predator. A fearsome monster that’s a hunter, has intelligence, knows battle tactics and can speak. I also have a strong feeling that Salem will have the Hound Grimm capture Ruby by the end of the volume (since I assume she still wants her) and when Yang finds out, she’ll feel guilt for coming down hard on Ruby’s leadership skills form episode 1 (which could potentially lead Ruby to doubt herself and make bad decisions which could result in her capture) and will do everything she can to save her little sister. This episode also shows that there’s more to the Grimm than we initially thought; they can now fight back.
It makes sense. Either that or she'll use Oscar as bait, and we'll get the entire team in a showdown. The only thing is that Salem will keep Oscar alive, just so that Ozpin can't reincarnate and just start shit all over again. Ruby, on the other hand, would be better out of her way dead. Like Summer, who I am increasingly wondering if she's alive, captured, or dead. I don't know, there's no basis anywhere besides, "she went on a mission and never returned". Like, bro. There is so much that can happen in 14 chapters in RWBY, and I don't want to keep waiting. QwQ
@@andrewpenny4676 That is disturbing on every level and I both despisingly hate it and like it. Not love it. Just like it. It would definitely follow the theme of the Brothers Grimm though . . . 0-0
I imagine Nora and Ren having this conversation: - You've lost Oscar? Again! You lost our precious son again! Damnit Ren we just got him back like an hour ago. Are u calling yourself a responsible parent! If I was there, that would never happened.
I figured the Grimm 'dogs' not going around the shield was to preview that Grimm shouldn't be smart, thus leading to Yang and co. confusion to the Chimera Grimm using tactics.
I was kinda scared for him and for myself watching this because we've never really seen grimm attack a defenceless person. I've never been really scared off grimm apart from this one.
My two biggest thoughts during this episode were that I did NOT expect the Grimm to grab Oscar early on in this Volume, and I am VERY worried about Ren. The death theory about Team JNPR had better be wrong!
I am convinced that the only way Oscar will be able to escape safely is if someone from Salem's inner circle defects, he happens to be in the right place at the right time, & they bring Oscar along. As much as I want it to be Emerald & Mercury that defects, I think it will be Neo instead, based on her reactions to Salem's faction at the start of the volume. (or maybe ALL of them team up & leave, I would love that)
I can also only see emerald and neo defecting. I mean cinder is changing into, what raven said in vol 5 in emerald's very eyes. Cinder is changing into a monster.
@Harris Fu I think it implies that Emerald & Mercury are going on separate missions to develop their characters. For example, Emerald needs to learn to let go of Cinder, & Mercury needs to realize that Salem's faction is not where he belongs.
@@Dragonsofchaos852 I think that Mercury would follow them because, throughout v4-v6, he's shown to be uncomfortable around the rest of Salem's faction.
Something brought up in this episode was that there were very few Grim in the city and that the entire hoard was "waiting". My theory is that Salem is having the army hold off until she retrieves Ozpin. Once Oscar is brought to her, she is going to unleash all hell. Another note is that in the intro, Oscar is clutching his head as Salem looms overs him. I believe the "interrogation" might involve her magically trying to pull apart his mind. Maybe extract Ozpin all together.
I think that talking grimm might be a living part of the weird dark pool used to make grimm. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for Salem to be able to use magic to give life to a part of the pool itself. All the other grimm are born from it but this one might be an actual chunk of the pool. Hell, maybe Kevin was the same thing as this grimm, a grimm that is also able to spawn more of its kind.
The entire sequence with the hound was so scary. I spent like 10 minutes screaming about it with a friend. So glad that my roommate wasn’t in the room. Also yes, protect the sheep girl she’s so cute.
Have feeling Ironwood let Watts out so he can ask him to hack Penny :( Also Oscar Protection Squad failed ... poor cinnamon going to get TORTURED! - When Grimm talked I was about to faint... - Ren Negativity is growing which is very bad as it escalates the whole team will fall. They need to communicate more meaning Jaune right everyone need therapy session XD Also, Qrow getting revenge to KILL! , Kind of on board on that however, he might regret it... - I wish weiss went with yang for range weapon cause how the shit are they going to get him back!? They all have close range weapons geezes.
6:40 They remark later on on the new grimm that "grimm aren't that smart" So I imagine that Juane's pop up shield is functional for certain types of grimm? The grimm that charged may just charge and attack and aren't necessarily smart
TBH I wouldn't be surprised if that grimm was all Salem's doing. Controlling it, evolving it, and speaking through it. She already has the capability to see through the eyes of grimm (the seer grimm and the whale), so I wouldn't be surprised if she was communicating through it as well.
When the hound Grimm talked I was getting vibes from when Caesar first spoke in the Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie. As for the reason why the soldiers was taking watts away I think Ironwood wants to have watts reprogramming penny so that way he'll have the maidens power in his control
Hey salem is it me but isn't salem similar to Dracula from castlevania both screwd over by god and the people they lost and now I think salem endgame is history biggest suicide note.
I laughed so hard when Weiss got ejected xD, I only missed a message: Weiss was not the imposter xD. As for the Hound grimm, yes I think this might be exactly what Salem would do to someone she captures. Also I noticed that the hound has no (visible) eyes, so I'm waiting till it changes it's body and reveal a pair of silver eyes.
I wonder if there will be one future chapter this volume where Ren can’t take it anymore and lashes out at everyone in one long tangent. It will be sad but I think he needs it.
Did you notice the scene where The Hound is on the bridge when they’re fighting the pterodactyl Grimm. The Hound then notices they’re about to break the bridge he’s on and in turn runs across. Also when Oscar was talking to Ospin in that scene you can see the silhouette of The Hound in the backround. You can see his silhouette yet again in the scene of the background, when Oscar gats a mouthful of Yangs hair. The Hound was stalking them in the background of the whole episode I thought that was a cool detail.
I think watts got knocked out bc he didn’t activate his aura. Remember in volume 5 where Oscar was fighting Ruby but he was taking damage as if his aura was broken bc he didn’t activate it
I legitimately don't know what's funnier. Nora shipping Weiss off in the episode The way Phinox/Night described it Or finding the imposter meme in the comment section
What you said about Ren made me wonder if Yang could be suffering a similar situation with her own semblance. If semblances are all passive to summon degree. Making you more sensitive to your respective nature. If Yang's supression of her explosive temper may be having detrimental effects on her mental state. She has gone from releasing it freely to full supression until the end of a battle and using it all at once. Yet the force she has been unleashing at what is supposed to be her zenith actually seems weaker than her earlier displays. What if this effort to suppress her emotions is not only impacting her mentality in general but also weakening her semblance when she does let it out. Since while her semblance may be to dish out twice the damage she takes. It is also linked to her emotions more heavily than most.
I hope not! I kinda want Adam to stay dead because Rooster Teeth messenger abundantly clear by making him slam on rocks when he was falling down. But a very good theory though.
@@studyguy.7660 And what happened with cinder back in vol 5? She fought and got frozen by raven. Also fell from a high place. Yet she still survived. Granted, she might of broken out and learned how to fly. But i wouldn't be surprised if adam got grinmfied. Due to one reason. After, he fell back in vol 6. We never saw the body.... *Begins to realize something.* What if the grimm is roman? I mean, the grimm bird that are him survived. So there's a chance, he's alive.
Y'all are missing a key factor. The weird hound grimm seems to be able to replicate the traits of other grimm. What I'm saying is that its possible that its a grimm hybrid of almost every grimm species and given cognitive functions, might have bits of Adam and Roman in it as well.
@@matthewjohnson3302 If you look closely, you notice it 3 separate times. Once looking after them as they got the bikes, the second overlooking the camp, and the last time I noticed was when the dinosaur Grimm was passing a bridge, if you look closely, you see the thing run across it.
Why would Hound be hybridized from a person? I mean, yes Cinder is proof that Grimm can be grafted like prosthetics onto people, more likely from Salem’s personal touch, but STILL. I’m of the belief that Hound is just a Grimm that’s been personally touched up by Salem for its entire existence, and only ever used if she wants someone ALIVE and wants them in her presence YESTERDAY.
You know how in the op of volume 8 there’s that scene where Salem’s looming over oscar with wings, I’m pretty sure that’s gonna change to the hound in the next episode possibly, also hopefully we see jaune amplify yangs semblance since we’ve never seen it done to any other character then ren
this got real so fast. Also, maybe we will see May and Wiess form a relationship (I call it family rebels), due to now they rebel against their families (Marygold and Schnee)
Could be. May Marigold is apparently a cousin to Henry who we saw in volume 4. So we know there is some sort of bad blood? between Weiss and Henry which might extend to May. But i honestly don't think so. May is a huntress like Weiss while Henry didn't seem like a Huntsman. Him also being up in Atlas and May down in Mantle would suggest some rift between those two Marigolds.
They’re badger paws!! Look at his hair, there’s a white stripe like a badger. Also when he walks up, if you look in the background you can see Oscar give him an excited wave, so wholesome.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this yet but you can actually see the Hound hunting Oscar at least three times throughout the episode (probably why the team wasn't cloaked while transporting the civilians) The first is when Team ORYJ is distracted by her bike trick, the camera pans up as they go under a bridge and it's there, looking like a mini leviathan The second is when Oscar is talking with Ozpin after it shows the toy on the ground, and you can see it standing on a water tank in the background, perching like a large cat (maybe a Puma) The third is running across the bridge as the Yang drives under it while kiting the Teryx, in its Ghostbuster hellhound form Not sure if there were more but these are the ones I've seen, and it's interesting to note that it doesn't set off the Grimm alarms
So I have a question. Why does everyone seem so fixated on the Hound being a person. I'm hoping the Hound is a sentient grimm. I've always liked the feel of eldritch monsters that predate humans. I don't want the grimm to be just another human.
Thanks God you mention Summer Rose! When I heard that Grimm talk I think about Summer (who is definetly not die for me) or Roman. Also I can see a future fight, like Yang or Ren blamming Ruby "You have silver eyes! Oscar would be here if you dont try to lunch that stupid Tower!" And well, Ruby blamming herself too :( Also the theory about "Hacked Penny" and the fact the guards took watts 👀 I think Ironwood would be the responsable Like always, love your work. Keep doing 🇦🇷💞
Maybe you didn't notice when Oscar and Ozpin was having their talk behind Oscar over his shoulder on the rooftop is the Grimm we see later on, meaning that he was following Oscar but knew he couldn't attack him in the middle of the base so he waited for him to come back out. As for what it is, I am still pulling for Grimm to be made out of souls of those people who died and Salem awoken a soul in a grimm to use it, maybe Adam because if so imagine Blake and Yang hearing Adam's voice from a grimm or worse Pyrrha.
Definitely not Adam. It was vicious in knocking him out, but the second he was KOed and his aura was down, the hound made certain to do everything it could to not injure Oscar.
@@kamanira I am not saying this Grimm, the Hound I believe they are calling it is Adam if my idea is even correct but where there is one there are likely others, so there could be an untold number of smart grimm and Adam could be one of them, if my idea is true.
The thing I find the most terrifying about the hound is that it was following yang's group the whole episode. When the group drives under the bridge and the camera pans up you can see the hound standing on the bridge. Later in the episode, you can even see it on top of a roof just over Oscar's left shoulder during his conversation with Ozpin.
I wonder if Oscar being captured will lead to Ozpin and Salem having a conversation similar to the voiceovers that we've heard from the two of them throughout the series.
I've only started watching your videos since Volume 8 started last week but I think I'll keep watching throughout the rest of the volume. It's really nice to watch someone positive who doesn't constantly trash the show. Thank you for these great reviews!
I initially thought the new grimm was being controlled by Salem due to the similarities in the opening like Salems wings and we know that Salem can obviously control grimm. However, I think it may just be intelligent and specially made by Salem. Or it's a person that has been augmented which goes back to your theory of grimm hybridization.
I have a thought that Salem will get frustrated trying to break Ozcar for info on the Lamp, and may turn her sights to capturing Ruby. It was very convenient for Ruby to let Salem know that she knows how and actually did access the Lamp. As if Ruby already didn't have a big enough bullseye on her back. The intro made it seem like Ruby will be captured and broken down. (That fall at the end along with Apathy like arms grabbing her.) Salem broke her before with a simple Yo Mama moment. She can do it again.
With Ruby bring Little Red Riding hood doesn’t the inclusion of a ‘hound’ have a connection? Most Beowulf fit the reference but this is a notable Grimm not some weak dog Ironwood could 1v1 in vol 3
I guess that means that Mike and Marty the Beowolves are somewhere out there, enjoying a cup of Chibi Beans coffee and hitching rides with unsuspecting victims
The Hound grim if you look at the background of oscars scene is silently stalking him up until the moment it makes its presence known: very hunter like.
The Sabyrs pawing at the barrier were probably meant to emphasise the primitive behaviours of most Grimm, preparing for a stark contrast with the Hound. Also I feel like Ren's emotions and abilities are all over the place not because of others' emotions, but because of his own. His Semblance suppresses emotions but there's only so long you can live like that before it catches up to you. Now with his fragile relationship with Nora, his emotional state has never been worse and that's affecting his Semblance.
@@babycarrotbarbeque5606 Apathy is correct for one of them, the other being the Nuckelavee from volume 4. This Hound seems like a good blend of being physically intimidating and psychologically intimidating given the various abilities it has.
I noticed during the opening scene that Penny's reflection is a slightly different pose, especially after the class tube shatters. Suggesting that she's gonna have different thoughts and feeling etc. But I noticed today that her power hair bow is missing. I'm still hoping for the whole "turning into a real girl" Pinocchio story. Not sure how she'll take it but it's gonna be what saves her.
I’m not usually a fan of fights against Grimm at least not as much as I’m a fan of fights against other people as those fights are usually better choreographed and just way more fun to watch. However I loved the fight with the hound, the versatility it had and it’s signs of intelligence made it my favorite Grimm fight in all of Rwby and I hope to see more like it and I just hope that fights with Grimm can evolve to become more like this one.
I would like to note! 5:53 after they land you see them go under a bridge and take a right. If you look at the bridge you can ALREADY see the intelligent Grim stalking them. Watching. I saw that on the first watch and was like. Huh that’s odd.
We knew Oscar would be taken but.... I don't think anyone expected that, at all, I know I didn't when it talked I no joked teared up , cause what if Salem makes another Grimm like this and is to take someone else? The only other threat to her Might as well be ruby, because of her silver eyes
My jaw was dropped during the whole Hound scene It just throwing everyone from Yang's group around was shocking but also kinda amazing to watch, and then the deforming transformations and it using abilities of other Grimm.... and the way it just said "NO" made a chill run down my spine I fully believe this will be remembered as one of the best scenes of this whole show and I'm super excited to learn more about it and to see more of it in action I believe it would be interesting (although a bit improbable) if it was actually a part of Salem's Inner Circle, since it, aside from being a more "boss type" Grimm, is rational on a basic degree, maybe assuming a more humanoid form (and hopefully other forms as well!!) at certain points, or if it is the beginning to a more advanced wave of the Grimm species
A fun theory that I've seen and discussed is that The Hound is actually based more on Frankenstein, a creature that grows and thinks for itself and tries to become the 'peak' of what it was meant to be; thus shifting and changing its form to further adapt. The fact that Salem in the opening also has these same wings could POTENTIALLY lead to the idea that The Hound will actually COPY Salem, but in an imperfect way; which sort of relates to how you said the two could be one and the same in a way. I personally do hope that we see this Grimm grow even more intelligent, because this possibility for future sentient Grimm would make someone like Merlot squeal in delight.
I am very intrigued to see what's going to happen to Ren. I started to relate to Ren during volume 7 this episode especially. I was able to recall many instances of when I reacted the same way he did. There a few things that I noticed about his reactions. Before Ren rolled his eyes after being asked to use his semblance he looked off to the side with an expression of fear and/or shame. Ren doesn't have faith in using his semblance to that scale and doesn't want to make an attempt. His uncertainty probably comes from the events of the Volume 6 finale when he ran out of aura mid flight and his new emotional instability affecting his ability to focus. When Ren is taking the people to the crater he's struggling to focus as he tells Jaune. It was not right of Ren to snap at Jaune but it makes sense. Ren almost lost control giving Juane a short response. Ren knew he could not handle anyone talking to him which is why he immediately shut down Jaune's encouragement. I do wish that Ren had apologized to Jaune after everyone made it to the crater. Unfortunately, Ren probably doesn't think he did anything wrong or just forgot about it and I'm hoping he realizes later. When Ren confronts his feelings and actions I would love if Jaune tells Ren "this has to stop" because that's what Ren told him when he was feeling regret over his actions. Though this is just speculation. With how quick his instability is compounding on him we'll most likely find out when he takes another big failure like his outburst after they lost the lamp. The developing theme of Ren's arc is what interests me the most because of the personal implications for me.
The character Crimson that was speaking to Fiona reminded me about the fanmade trailer for team DARK also titled “Crimson.” Got me thinking about it, but I don’t think they would be connected. Just a random reminder I got.
Now that "Hound" Grimm, every action it took at purpose and intent behind it. Everything from beating poor Oscar down just enough, using him as a shield, multiple rapid mutations, and finally speaking just to add more shock and awe. Some on the RT site complained that Yang and the others should have attacked while it mutated. Seeing what it can do I don't think that would have done any good. Gunfire didn't seem to affect it and melee attacks seem dubious while it has a hostage/human shield.
On the Grimm not going around the sheild, remember, Grimm might be strong but they're also dumb. The oldest Grimm we've seen are the only ones who have looked ahead of what's in front of them, like the Gheist in the mind fusing dust with its body and retreating into the center or, ahem, our new friend Henry the hellhound over here...
My current theory regarding the Hound is that it might be Summer Rose, that this might be Salems way of snuffing out hope and that it might also be why she wants Ruby alive. So that Ruby can share the same fate as her mother and become a hound. Its a cracky theory based mainly off some loose connections I drew between Red Like Roses II, Salems interaction with Ruby in Volume 7 and overall just how Summer's fate seems to be tied with Rubys path.
@@professorescanor7310 Given how we saw Tock handling Maria by cutting out her eyes and Its heavily implied she worked for Salem? I would have to agree that Salem probably went all Madara Uchiha and ripped out Summers eyes.
I'm nicknaming the Hound grimm "Xolo" (pronounced SHO-lo). It's short for xoloitzcuintle, the name of the dog breed that he looks like - the Mexican hairless dog - that in Mexican tradition is a guide to the afterlife, as well as Xolotl, the Aztec death god who looks like a skeletal hound. I also have a long-standing opposition to the idea of Grimmified humans, so I think Xolo is like the beetle from Volume 3 or like Richard - a unique non-replicable one-of-a-kind creation of Salem's.
not sure how many people caught this but in the scene where Yang jumps the ramp and Oscar gets a mouthful of hair, they all drive under a bridge before the scene changes and we see the new Super Grimm stalking them waaaay before it attacks later in the episode. It's very creepy (It's specifically at 5:03 in the episode)
The fact that this Grimm is able to display such levels of intelligence can only mean two things: either its been with Salem for an exceedingly long time before the start of the series, training and molding it (no pun intended) to be her trump card of sorts or that she personally created this Grimm during the Volume 6 end credits scene and has done everything in her power to make it as such. Either way, this will be the toughest and most dangerous Grimm our heroes will ever face.
My fanfic includes Grimm being faunes who were experimented with and turned into them, it’s a fanfic that I want to write which follows team DARK years before rwby, where the whole team are looking for faunes who disappeared, but get captured and all but one member still keeps their sanity in their Grimm form
In your video last year about "What's Happening with Ren?" I proposed an idea that I think is coming closer to being confirmed. I think what's really driving Ren's emotional turmoil is the way he's been using his semblance over the last couple of volumes. Since Jaune unlocked his semblance, Ren has been routinely using his semblance to suppress the emotions of whole groups of people at once. He did this on the train at the beginning of volume 6, the team's airship at the end of volume 6, and now twice with large groups of Mantle evacuees. I suspect that Ren's semblance may actually cause him to absorb the negative emotions he suppresses; this doesn't matter when it's only himself, and it's a minimal issue when he's suppressing one or two other people, but I think these large groups are causing far greater problems than he's used to handling. The fact that he's increasingly pushing Nora away is definitely not helping, since her cheeriness is one thing that could help balance out Ren' emotions. I certainly think we're going to see Ren explode emotionally in the near future, something along the same lines as we saw in volume 4 against the Nukalavee and in volume 7 after they lost the relic, but even more drastic. Losing Oscar (assuming they can't stop the Grimm Hound) may be what pushes him over the edge, or some other setback in the next couple of episodes.
My theory is that the hound is Adam fully turned into a beast. It's style of in your face fighting really reminded me of adam. It'd be intriguing as we see the slums of mantle where adam was likely branded, that we see the end of his logic.
I wonder if "the man who put us here" is actually directed towards Tyrian. Like yes, Ironwood put them there, but it is because of Tyrian that they were framed for being involved in the death of Clover.

*Looking at the last part of the comment* "Fucking GENIUS!!!"
Going with my theory that this Grimm is Summer transformed
Once upon a time Dr. Obbleck said not all the grimms are dumb. They can learn. But even with this, this grimm is so smart of all. Maybe Salem made some modification or lectured, she is also grimm too.
I love this analysis and its so thought out. I never noticed how careful the grimm was towards Oscar. It's gonna be interesting how the scene continues since Yang, Ren and Jaune do go after it to try and save Oscar.
A GRIMM WITH INTELLIGENCE INSTEAD OF PRIMAL INSTINCT!!!!!! OOHH BABY BOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I KNOW AAAAAAAAAAA
QwQ
The hound is more like venom if it manages to stick oscar in his body for a host that will confirm monty was a marvel fan.
@@andrewpenny4676 That is disturbing on every level and I both despisingly hate it and like it. Not love it. Just like it.
It would definitely follow the theme of the Brothers Grimm though . . . 0-0

I imagine Nora and Ren having this conversation:
- You've lost Oscar? Again! You lost our precious son again! Damnit Ren we just got him back like an hour ago. Are u calling yourself a responsible parent! If I was there, that would never happened.
Oh yeah, that talking grimm was stalking Yang, Jaune, Ren, and Oscar. It was planning for a moment to strike. You can see it on the bridge

I figured the Grimm 'dogs' not going around the shield was to preview that Grimm shouldn't be smart, thus leading to Yang and co. confusion to the Chimera Grimm using tactics.
Poor Oscar that was brutal AF poor boi must have been so scared 😭😭😭😢
I would not want to fight a Grimm variant with sentience
It’s probably gonna get much worse for him as I think that Grimm is gonna get away and bring him to Salam.
I was kinda scared for him and for myself watching this because we've never really seen grimm attack a defenceless person. I've never been really scared off grimm apart from this one.
Man this show needs to start being nicer to Oscar I mean seriously they keep hurting the poor boy both emotionally and physically
@@Anonymous-pk9vh I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets therapy at the end of the series. 😭😭😭
(or maybe ALL of them team up & leave, I would love that)
At this point I hope Salem kills all of them except TYRIAN, she doesn't need any of them, just make more hounds
@Harris Fu Mercury seems to care about Emerald.
There was this art
Salem: Ozma...it has been a long time...*turns*
Oscar: ...
Salem: this is a todler--
i could see this happening
I think that talking grimm might be a living part of the weird dark pool used to make grimm. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for Salem to be able to use magic to give life to a part of the pool itself. All the other grimm are born from it but this one might be an actual chunk of the pool. Hell, maybe Kevin was the same thing as this grimm, a grimm that is also able to spawn more of its kind.
@Tijana Šogor Kevin is the name given to the wyvern that awoke from mountain glenn, the one that assaulted the academy in volume 3
The entire sequence with the hound was so scary. I spent like 10 minutes screaming about it with a friend. So glad that my roommate wasn’t in the room. Also yes, protect the sheep girl she’s so cute.
Fiona is already Volume 8's best girl
I just went “wait wtf just happened.” Like it was so out of nowhere and just so darn brutal

They may be young.
Remember, what oobleck said back in vol 2?
That some grimm had learned
Given Its rapid adaptivity and apparent dangerousness, I am giving the Hound the name 'Darwin'.
TBH I wouldn't be surprised if that grimm was all Salem's doing. Controlling it, evolving it, and speaking through it. She already has the capability to see through the eyes of grimm (the seer grimm and the whale), so I wouldn't be surprised if she was communicating through it as well.
She wouldn't have needed to talk to it if that was the case.
When the hound Grimm talked I was getting vibes from when Caesar first spoke in the Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie. As for the reason why the soldiers was taking watts away I think Ironwood wants to have watts reprogramming penny so that way he'll have the maidens power in his control

Nora shipping Weiss off in the episode

I think 'Uncle' is a badger, he has badger-like coloration to his hair
Another animal living in burrow, so also fitting for a plausible former miner... Size of claws compared to the rest of the paw is also good... Gg.
My first thought was sloth 😂
Yeah now seeing his hair, I agree that’s he’s a badger now.
Plot Twist: The Hound is a Adam and this is why Yang was looking horrified in the trailer.
Don’t take me seriously
*Begins to realize something.*
What if the grimm is roman? I mean, the grimm bird that are him survived. So there's a chance, he's alive.
My theory is Dead people can be thrown into the Black pits and give birth to the GRIMM with Bubbling flesh
So in my theory the GRIMM hound IS Adam
Y'all are missing a key factor. The weird hound grimm seems to be able to replicate the traits of other grimm. What I'm saying is that its possible that its a grimm hybrid of almost every grimm species and given cognitive functions, might have bits of Adam and Roman in it as well.
@@shelbybayer200 ask yourself why though. Why in the world would it be Adam. Did Salem just go find his body and turn it into a Grimm?

I’m calling this new Grimm The High-End Grimm, regardless of what it’s actual name is.
Anyone else notice the Dog Grimm was following them?
Yep that's haunting!
Yh it was stalking Oscar throughout the episode 😰
I saw it on the bridge but that’s it
@@matthewjohnson3302 If you look closely, you notice it 3 separate times. Once looking after them as they got the bikes, the second overlooking the camp, and the last time I noticed was when the dinosaur Grimm was passing a bridge, if you look closely, you see the thing run across it.
The Hound is basically a mixture of High End and Cesar
It's also a grimm version of Nemesis
Why would Hound be hybridized from a person? I mean, yes Cinder is proof that Grimm can be grafted like prosthetics onto people, more likely from Salem’s personal touch, but STILL. I’m of the belief that Hound is just a Grimm that’s been personally touched up by Salem for its entire existence, and only ever used if she wants someone ALIVE and wants them in her presence YESTERDAY.
You know how in the op of volume 8 there’s that scene where Salem’s looming over oscar with wings, I’m pretty sure that’s gonna change to the hound in the next episode possibly, also hopefully we see jaune amplify yangs semblance since we’ve never seen it done to any other character then ren
we did also see him do it to Weiss that one time although i don't think it did much besides make the Lancer hit harder
this got real so fast. Also, maybe we will see May and Wiess form a relationship (I call it family rebels), due to now they rebel against their families (Marygold and Schnee)
Do you mean platonically?
@@PrincessLockette yes it got real. plus hope for ship family rebels (may & wiess)
In certain parts of the episode you can see the hound grim in the background watching them
The hound Grimm kind of reminds of some creature from a horror game. It is scary 😳
Everyone gangsta til the grimm used big brain mode
They’re badger paws!! Look at his hair, there’s a white stripe like a badger. Also when he walks up, if you look in the background you can see Oscar give him an excited wave, so wholesome.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this yet but you can actually see the Hound hunting Oscar at least three times throughout the episode
(probably why the team wasn't cloaked while transporting the civilians)
The first is when Team ORYJ is distracted by her bike trick, the camera pans up as they go under a bridge and it's there, looking like a mini leviathan
The second is when Oscar is talking with Ozpin after it shows the toy on the ground, and you can see it standing on a water tank in the background, perching like a large cat (maybe a Puma)
The third is running across the bridge as the Yang drives under it while kiting the Teryx, in its Ghostbuster hellhound form
Not sure if there were more but these are the ones I've seen, and it's interesting to note that it doesn't set off the Grimm alarms
Also I can see a future fight, like Yang or Ren blamming Ruby
"You have silver eyes! Oscar would be here if you dont try to lunch that stupid Tower!"
And well, Ruby blamming herself too :(
Also the theory about "Hacked Penny" and the fact the guards took watts 👀 I think Ironwood would be the responsable
Like always, love your work. Keep doing 🇦🇷💞
I agree. I get the feeling this grimm in particular is either Summer or Roman.
@@wingadept8793 or Adam?
If it keeps up like that Ruby will snap in this volume
So it’s got patience as well, now that just makes the hound even more dangerous.
The moment they’re guard was down, it was ready to pounce.
The Nemsis Grimm: STAAARRSSS!!!!
I wonder if Oscar being captured will lead to Ozpin and Salem having a conversation similar to the voiceovers that we've heard from the two of them throughout the series.
Cowardly lion lost his courage
Tinman gave up his heart
Now: scarecrow might lose his mind
(I really hope not)
I've only started watching your videos since Volume 8 started last week but I think I'll keep watching throughout the rest of the volume. It's really nice to watch someone positive who doesn't constantly trash the show. Thank you for these great reviews!

Chad Grimm vs Virgin Protagonists
Virgin Protagonists: No you can't have intellinence you are a grimm!!!!! chad grimm: Haha, litle boy go broom!
Chad George the hound: nope you ain’t gettin him bacc
(That fall at the end along with Apathy like arms grabbing her.)
Salem broke her before with a simple Yo Mama moment. She can do it again.
The funniest thing...Vemon reference. 24:47
Vemon: Am I a joke to you?
HAHA XD
We didn't see May up in Atlas in the previews, but that doesn't mean she stayed behind. Her semblance is a cloaking device, after all.
I was so excited when the Grimm spoke and it wasn't in Salem's voice. That made it like, the 3rd Grimm that's legitimately freaky.
What are the other two? Im pretty sure the Apathy is one of them but what's the other?
@@babycarrotbarbeque5606 Apathy is correct for one of them, the other being the Nuckelavee from volume 4. This Hound seems like a good blend of being physically intimidating and psychologically intimidating given the various abilities it has.
At a guess I'd say Crimson is inspired by Will Scarlet- one of Robin Hood's merry men.
Fiona and Oscar protection squad assemble
I actually couldn’t tell if the Grimm was talking. But looking back, yeah, I see why everyone was shocked that they didn’t even move
I like how that new grimm Was hiding in most of the scenes with Oscar outside
That grimm must be a transposition of mike and marcy
My jaw was dropped during the whole Hound scene
It just throwing everyone from Yang's group around was shocking but also kinda amazing to watch, and then the deforming transformations and it using abilities of other Grimm.... and the way it just said "NO" made a chill run down my spine
I fully believe this will be remembered as one of the best scenes of this whole show and I'm super excited to learn more about it and to see more of it in action
I believe it would be interesting (although a bit improbable) if it was actually a part of Salem's Inner Circle, since it, aside from being a more "boss type" Grimm, is rational on a basic degree, maybe assuming a more humanoid form (and hopefully other forms as well!!) at certain points, or if it is the beginning to a more advanced wave of the Grimm species
Merlot was the scientist guy from the game right?
It's been established in universe (by Oobleck) that the Grimm are very much capable of evolving. I just didn't think it would involve speaking.
Finally, I’ve been waiting for your opinion of this episode. ☺️
Same
I am very intrigued to see what's going to happen to Ren.
Every three videos: "by the way, that pet name theory still stands. just sayin."
Gunfire didn't seem to affect it and melee attacks seem dubious while it has a hostage/human shield.
either the hound is the big bad wolf or the hound of baskerville
On the Grimm not going around the sheild, remember, Grimm might be strong but they're also dumb. The oldest Grimm we've seen are the only ones who have looked ahead of what's in front of them, like the Gheist in the mind fusing dust with its body and retreating into the center or, ahem, our new friend Henry the hellhound over here...
My current theory regarding the Hound is that it might be Summer Rose, that this might be Salems way of snuffing out hope and that it might also be why she wants Ruby alive. So that Ruby can share the same fate as her mother and become a hound.
Its a cracky theory based mainly off some loose connections I drew between Red Like Roses II, Salems interaction with Ruby in Volume 7 and overall just how Summer's fate seems to be tied with Rubys path.
the grimm doesn't seem to ahev eyes. Perhaps removed to avoid Summer destroying herself|?
@@professorescanor7310 Given how we saw Tock handling Maria by cutting out her eyes and Its heavily implied she worked for Salem? I would have to agree that Salem probably went all Madara Uchiha and ripped out Summers eyes.
I love the new team color schemes, they really match, also the hound is horrifying, an INTELLEGENT grimm
The Hound is sweet and makes an non canon oc like 25% more canon.
not sure how many people caught this but in the scene where Yang jumps the ramp and Oscar gets a mouthful of hair, they all drive under a bridge before the scene changes and we see the new Super Grimm stalking them waaaay before it attacks later in the episode.
I love the gods being really flawed in the show, its super interesting
I hope that someone calls them out if they do show up
My fanfic includes Grimm being faunes who were experimented with and turned into them, it’s a fanfic that I want to write which follows team DARK years before rwby, where the whole team are looking for faunes who disappeared, but get captured and all but one member still keeps their sanity in their Grimm form
