    6/10 seems awfully low for such an easy disassembly.

    • @ddegn
      @ddegn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      I was thinking the same thing. I think iFixit gets too hung up on solder and glue. Both are viable assembly options. Anyone adventurous enough to try to fix their own drone should learn how to solder.

    • @originalmianos
      @originalmianos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Except no one would ever just use a connector for the motor connections for a quadcopter. There is too much current combined with the vibration at the motor. Maybe connectors on the end of the cable for the board, away from the motors, which they do do. It's common for these toy quadcopters to provide spare motors with the cable pre soldered to a wire with a connector that you have to thread through the arm.

    • @motorsportislife9598

    • @Kayshots
      @Kayshots 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jason Gurtz-Cayla my 30$ drone had connectors. Trust me it’s not that great. After 1 hard Landing (Stuck in a tree and fell 6 meter) the connectors broke and there was no way to connect them without replacing the wires with new ones. So soldering is stronger and will last longer as these drones will last up to 7 years

    I like it. Looks most repairable. For those without a soldering iron, go buy one, a decent iron is cheap enough so get learning to solder on a few scrap boards. About time more people learned to fix things anyhow instead of throw it away.

    Something I dont think was mentioned. The Motor // Arm soldering points are actually spaced pretty far apart, making it easy for even a novice at soldering to be able to do it easily. Most DIY focused FPV drone electronics arent done in such a way. You are lucky to get a mm or two between pads, here we see like 1/4 inch. Dont like that they didnt put a plug for the arm motor combo, but I get that it adds weight and they wanted to save every 0.1 gram here.

    Interesting comment at the end 'it's not a drone it's a quadcopter' . . . I would posit that it's both.
    I suppose it depends upon how you define what is a drone, because drone aircraft come in different forms.
    I think in the most basic sense a drone must have the capacity not only to operate but to also function without external input.
    As an example a well tuned and balanced quad can remain stationary in flight with no stick input, but that's all it can do with no stick input. A drone on the other hand can take off, fly a course by waypoints , return home and land all without the need of any stick input.
    The Mavic Air 2 is a drone in quadcopter form. It can be flown as a drone, or as a quadcopter - albeit with permanent stability & stuck horizon mode.
    Nice break down vid

      If you look at one of the screws when new, it has what seems to be a glob of epoxy over the screw cavity. This is one of the known ways DJI determines if your warranty is void. Unfortunately it can be picked out with a finger nail fairly easily.

    I tried to use this process on my DJI air 2s to remove the gimbal from the body. The gimbal data
    cable came out easily from the mother board just as seen in the video, but the
    video cable does not. seem like the plug and socket of the video cable are different.
    At least in my drone there was no space to place the pry tool under to release
    the cable. Please be very careful when trying to get the video cable
    disconnected, you may end up spoiling the socket on the motherboard. Just a
    heads up from my experience.

    Hi iFixit , thank you for this guideline. Really appreciate.
    I have some questions. Basically, due to new European regulations, I need to decrease 570 grams weight of the Mavic Air 2 to 500 grams. I have an idea to get rid of avoidance sensors (Front,Down,Rear). Related to the above, the questions as follow:
    1. Is there a chance to measure the weight of each module are shown in the video:
    - Front vision module (3:07)
    - Down vision module (2:04)
    - Rear vision module(3:15)
    2. What are the parts that may be considered as redundant? Just in case if avoidance sensors will not cut 70 grams.
    3. In case I remove 3 mentioned modules and disable the avoidance sensors in the setting of the app. Would it be working fine?
    Thank you a lot for any information. it will help me a lot to make a decision. I believe for many people in Europe that would be helpful, due to the new European restrictions (valid from 1 July 2020) with drones above 500 grams.
    And Last - Is the any chance to share XRAY photos. They are just fantastic!!!
    Thank you a lot

    Excellent video! I'll be disassembling my MA2 soon. Replacing the front sensor module. Hope that clears my "Front Sensor Failure" error. I like the drone but when parts fail for know good reason, you have to wonder about low quality components. Love how it manually flies though.

    Absolutely! More drone tech pleas! Your format and style are a welcome change to what is a daunting task at times and far from the bench work of most with terrible camera angles useless voice overs... DJI is one of the biggest brands on the market and there's little on the repair front that I'd trust as much as what I've just seen here I hope to see the rest of DJI's fleet come across the bench so we have a simple to fallow no bs video to fallow so we can at least attempt are own repairs.
    🥃cheers🍻
