What I got from this video: -trees are magic wizards -angiosperms probably definitely killed the dinosaurs -sticks are not food do not eat -cows digest things by combusting them with their stomachs
+cchdz I wouldn't write it off and say watching videos doesn't count as studying, it does! If it helps learn more about it then it definitely is studying!
@Rheanna Taylor: I wouldn't advise studying for a test by just watching videos tho, u gotta do the technical looking into also. But to say it doesn't count as studying is bull.
Hank, I'm in eighth grade taking tenth grade bio. Your videos helped my average soooo much. I went from a 67 to a 94 after i started watching you videos and studying in a fun way.
1: don’t eat sticks 2: plants are freaking cool 3: The meteor was a distraction for the flowers 4: hank woke up in a bush 5: plants just sit there and make food
@penrynsdreams This is an excellent point and an excellent discussion. Prokaryotes are extremely good at what they do. They are less complex, but whether complexity equals advancement is a value judgement. It is, however, a value judgement that I am used to making and have no problem asserting. Evolution does not have a goal, but it does tend toward complexity when resources are available. And in tending toward complexity, it's easy to think of that movement as advancement.
You know you like to procrastinate studying where you decide that you should watch the science crashcourse that is not even the science class you're taking.
Dear Hank, John, and all who make these videos possible, Thank you for teaching me, and the rest of the Nerdfighters whom watch these, so much. Whether reviewing something I've already learned, or finding out new information, SciShow and CrashCourse are always helpful. Not to mention that they're always a delight to watch! Thank you so so much for all your commitment to us. It is greatly appreciated. Love, Jayla
This helped me make a B in BIO 101 when I was working 40 hours a week and taking 18 hours in school! thank you. I am telling all my class mates about this for BIO 102
AP Biology exam in two days: did entire review book and took practice exam: made a 68. Watched all of crash course and took practice exam: made an 88 THANK YOU CRASH COURSE
OMG! Sorry about being a science newb here, but you said a thing near the beginning of the video that blew my mind. The idea that flowering plants might have killed the dinosaurs. Flowering plants have that pollen stuff, which cause "allergies" in some people (and probably animals) and dinosaurs, probably not having to deal with something like that before (besides say, stray dead skin particles in the air and whatever else passed for dust back then) wouldn't physically know how to deal with them. Maybe. I don't know, but the idea excited me and I got all science giddy, which I thank you for.
i luv how u talked about the vacuole also you rlly need to do a full episode about the mitochondria holy crap i never understood why glucose goes in wit oxygen
I love this channel! it has taught me soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much! I am in year 8 and we don't learn all about this awesome stuff! I wanna be a microbiologist when I grow up!
I was kind of hoping he would go into further detail on some of the other parts of the cell, like the Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, cytoskeleton, lysosomes, peroxisomes, centrioles, plasmodesmata, etc
Learning from you is just... so simple!! Thanks a lot, your work is amazing. I'm 25 and I swear I don't recall any of this from school years ago. Now it just seems to make much more sense.
this is great, wasn't understanding lessons from school earlier but with this, photosynthesis, and the one about atp & respiration, i now completely understand it
Can we engineer an animal cell with chloroplasts in the spirit of making an animal that needs far less food (since of course not all cells in say, a human, can be exposed to light, they would still require food)? This would be pretty useful in many ways, both for our livestock and us (engineered self-feeding meat animals? fewer starving humans? longer time required to starve?).
I'm not an expert i don't think it would work, the energy from the sun might seem "free" but it is not i think the energy used to create a chloroplast in each cell and in each cell division would exceed the energy gained from the sun, and that is why it is simply not worth it.
crash course biology helped me study for my biology class 10th grade in high school, sophomore year in college for bio class, for my mcat, and I plan to use it in med school too. thank you for this great information and videos.
I got this expensive-ass degree from UCSD in a bio-related field and it's still nice and enlightening to watch these videos for my own leisure. :) Thank you!
You are great, as a middle school educator I really appreciate your approach and you make learning very fun through your videos. I WISH, EVEN THROUGH IT FITS YOUR PERSONALITY, YOU WOULD NOT USE THE WORD FRICKEN OR *SS. I would like to continue using your videos, but please keep it G rated. Thanks! Great work.
This is true about some fungi. There are others that form complex networks with plants; mycorrhizal symbiosis. The plant gains a greater network to pull phosphates from the soil; the fungi gains access to the plant's sugars, glucose, sucrose, etc. Since 95% of plants share this connection; it's presumed that plants foray onto the land was sponsored by fungi already present in the soil.
Thank you so much for making these videos. The textbook made no sense to me and the material in the book was so dry that it kept me from understanding it. This really made it much easier to understand I would have failed my test had it not been for this video and all the rest

TheAlphaShadows pollen was actually not present before angiosperms. previous plants used spores to reproduce, which are quite different.

Everything I have ever eaten is plants? You know... except mushrooms.
Mushrooms feed theselves by decaying stuff, hich had to be somethign dead... which must have been alive... so it comes from plants.
