Content I was taught in two painfully long 80-minute lectures, condensed into 10 minutes of concise, straightforward, understandable content. Thank you for existing.
+ykOni Yeah! I personally would've chosen to be taught at TH-cam rather than my high school, imagining a world where we no longer have to even move from our homes to get the best quality, entertaining, active learning. Even standardized tests like the SAT can now be prepped for online by some of the most highly experienced mentors-people you wouldn't normally find at your local high school! Whether this happens to be true or not, we have to thank people like Hank and John for giving us such beautiful, free stuff!!!!! And finally, DFTBA!

Just popping in to say CrashCourse is helping me survive biology class. I've learned more from one video than I have in the 1 1/2 month of class so far.
***** I paid attention in class, but the information was taught so quickly that it was hard to keep up; Crashcourse knows how to teach information so that it's retained.
Are we just saying random lines from songs?? Ok, "Your lies are bullets!! Your mouths a gun!! No war in anger, is ever won!! Put out the fever, before igniting!! Next time your fighting!!" Done😁😁😁
I wonder how long it takes to film and edit these videos. With all those cool animations and such, i'm sure a lot of effort goes into making these videos! Def pays off tho :D
You basically did my biology project for me. We had to compare something or another object, to a plant or animal cell. What a coincidence I found this video, I'm so grateful xD
You don't know how happy I was to watch this in class today. I thought the video was going to be another boring podcast we're forced to watch but then I saw Hank. I was smiling like an idiot for the rest of my class and I'm almost 100% sure that my teacher thinks I'm insane now. Thank you Hank!
Learned it the easier way in just less than 12 mins vs a 2 hour lecture from my bio class. If all teachers just teach like this, a world would be such a better place. gaaah
It's not only a case of our awesome host just being awesome at teaching. It's a lot easier to teach in front of the camera with the power of post-production on your side than in a live environment. The pacing is just right and the visual supports are incomparable. Plus in the comfort of your awesome office chair sitting isolated in your room, you are actually much more likely to be focus and attentive than in the middle of a class room full of noises, whisper, hot girls, hot boys and sitting in a crappy ass chair. You can also pause and rewind stuff you didn't quite understand without having to stop a teacher in the middle of his speech and pissing off every other person in the room. You don't have to suffer awkward relations with other people like bullies and that one girl who mercilessly rejects your advances. You don't even have to leave your home, the one place in the world that feels the most familiar and secure or all places. Public schools are one of the worst environments possible to actually learn stuff. Back when we didn't had endless access to the entire knowledge of the human race in one single device; a computer with a functioning internet connection; schools were the best tool we could get to ensure everyone would have a chance to learn. They feel terribly outdated when compared to a channel like crash course. But I can't deny the quality of these videos. I mean I've gone trough 6 years of college/university all about biology. I know all of this stuff he's trying to teach and yet I'm watching it for fun! And perhaps a nice refresher on the basics. It's such a nice way to keep the brain warm. Would I go as far as to say it's good enough to fully substitute actual school? For some people, yes. Crash Course would be enough to substitute most of high school (Except maybe for maths. I didn't see a maths playlist. I think even TH-cam can't make maths exciting enough...) The problem with MOST people is they wouldn't want to learn this stuff if they weren't obligated to at least give it a try by attending school. If given the choice, they would rather spent their teen years playing videos games or sports, or both and hanging out with friends and losing their virginity and making a bunch of dumb mistakes, some of which would get a few killed, like starting one's home business in drug dealing at the innocent age of 12. Most humans can't be trusted with choice...
I started using these videos to aim my studies in biology, and then psychology! I introduced them to my psychology professor, and she is going to start using them in her classes! You guys are awesome!! Thank you for all you do!!!
Thank you SO much, Hank! I really like these videos, because they make much more sense than my own biology teacher... I just have one suggestion for this crash course series... Would it be possible to have some short tests or quizzes somewhere to go along with these videos to make sure that we DO know what you're talking about?
Thank you for being the wonderful crash course that you are! I would not pass anything in science and history class if it wasn't for you guys. You guys make it so much easier and more fun to understand.
we use these videos in class. and dear god our teacher doesn't like or something because she makes us write an entire page, with no pausing. Jesus he talks really fast.
I have a huge oral exam in biology on Tuesday. Thank you CrashCourse for helping me recap everything I've learnt this semester and for making studying fun!
CrashCourse, I can't say enough fantastic things about your content and all that you do. Thank you. Your teaching style is extremely effective and relatable. After hours of frustrating study time, I'm glad I always check your videos to connect the dots. Thank you so much. :)
I am here because my biology teacher doesn't really do much teaching, and while these videos do help A LOT I often find myself rewinding them and listening again because the talking is so fast that I struggle to comprehend them the first time.
I'm doing a bit of homeschooling with my grandson and we keep heading to your videos for information. They contain the right balance of humour and fact. How I wish I'd had access to them when I taught school many years ago. Thank you.

Notes:
Animal cell
Eukaryotic cells, with membrane ,organelles and nucleus containing DNA that calls the shots
Animal, plants, fungi and protist
Flexible and squishy membranes as oppose to plants, allowing the creation of cell, organs and tissue types
Cell is like a city:
On the surface:
Microtubials: made of long protein fibers: Cillia (tiny arms like in lungs and throat pushing the mucus up) and Flagella (whip-like tail like in sperms), Protozoans, move with Microtubials instead of muscle tissue
Membrane: Selective permeability: monitoring coming in and out like boarders
Inside:
Cytoplasm: water+nutrients
Cytoskeleton: scaffolding made of protein strands, Centrosomes: infrastructures
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER): network of membranes like a highway system
The smoother parts of ER are like factories:
containing enzymes (proteins) producing lipids,
detoxifying substances by adding carboxyl to make them soluble in water,
storing ions like Sodium used for energy
The rougher parts of ER have Ribosomes attached to them:
Synthesis and packaging of proteins
Ribosomes: float freely, assemble amino acids into Polypeptides pushing the protein chain into ER where it's bitten off and sent to Golgi Aparatus
Golgi: made of membranous layers: the post office for packaging proteins, cutting them into hormones, combining them with Carbs to make molecules
Vessicles: the packages with Phospholipid walls
Lysosome: waste treatment and recycling, sacks containing enzymes breaking down cell waste into building material
Mitochondria: the power plant where respiration takes place, fuels converted to Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) which is the currency
They were separate bacteria that animal cells absorbed and kept, and they still act as their own organisms with their own DNA, they exist in the egg and doesn't mix with sperms DNA during fertilization
Nucleus:
The leader
Contains DNA and has all the information and instructions
Has a double membrane
Nucleoplasm (is like Cytoplasm)
Nucleolus at the center: creates Ribosomal RNA+proteins=Ribosomes
Messenger RNA: carry the orders to Ribosomes
Chromatin: web-like substance that holds DNA molecules, upon cell division they gather into rod-shaped chromosome, humans have 46

thank you!
I love you

+Timothy Hagge Wow you're so smart?????!!!! :0 One issue, if you're so smart how haven't you noticed your arrogance?
a quiz at the end of each episode would be very helpful in making sure we actually processed that info lmao
+scully YES!
Go online and lookup plant cell quiz :)
I watch his videos at 1.5x :') so yeah it would be helpful
no one asked buddy
check out the crash course app..though the biology quizzes arent up yep, anatomy, organic chemistry and chemistry are available

I love that crash course doesn't only teach biology, but finds a way for me to care for biology
My biology textbook is the worst thing ever written. A full chapter takes only about a page and teaches nothing. Thank God for Crash Course.
Maybe because you're 10 and can't read ?>
Elijah Masquelier yeah

OMG!!!!!!! The mitochondria little fact about us having the same exact DNA
as the one as our mother it literally blew my mind !!!! FREAKING AWESOME !
If it "literally blew your mind", then THERE WOULD BE CHUNKS OF YOUR BRAIN EVERYWHERE!
Stop scrolling through the comments and pay attention to the video
Me: expects comment section to be entirely "the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell"
Me: is pleasantly surprised
Every teacher ever says "the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell"
the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell
the mightychondria
I love the intro
"Animals animals animals animal carcass."
"animals animals animals animal carcass again."
That Mitochondria info is really interesting. All we were told in school is that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell -.- Thanks Hank!!!
;_; why can't you be my biology teacher
same! my bio teacher is french so she has a thick accent. and she doesn't explain anything!
My bio teacher is just boring. And I mean that mean literally. She talks with a very boring voice
***** you mean monotone?
***** lol
my bio teacher talks about anything and everything but the subject that we need to know for our super hard tests
learned more in 11 minutes than in bio class lol
I learned more in about 20 seconds than in about 2 years of reading about this stuff. Crash Course is one of my new favourite Teachers.
***** I paid attention in class, but the information was taught so quickly that it was hard to keep up; Crashcourse knows how to teach information so that it's retained.
why are you even watching this if you don't think it works
obvious troll is obvious

when ur watching this for online school because now ur teacher cant teach you
You basically did my biology project for me. We had to compare something or another object, to a plant or animal cell. What a coincidence I found this video, I'm so grateful xD
For us, THIS IS our project. We just have to watch 14 videos, write 4 sentence summaries of each, and then write an essay.
Until I watched this video all I could remember was "Mitochondria, The PoWeRhOuSe of the cell"
Thought Cafe is sooo good with the animations!

Watching this because you have a test tomorrow and you don't want to actually study
I have a test tommorow and i dont know anything what am i doing with my life

I have a test tomorrow, thank you Crash Course, for saving for the umpteenth time
This is literally the only thing that is helping my pass my college human bio course. Way better then a three hour rambling "lecture".
I have a great teacher for Bio, I'm just a nerd.

This guy is an OG still making videos in 2012, dang, that grind.
so much easier to learn with these analogies. thank you
0:55 "...which is why plants can't dance." that line always makes me lol :)
There is SO MUCH to learn in biology that even this doesn’t cover it all, but I noticed it does cover key parts. Thank god for you 😍
Thank you for being the wonderful crash course that you are! I would not pass anything in science and history class if it wasn't for you guys. You guys make it so much easier and more fun to understand.

Hello fellow 8th Graders doing this work because of COVID-19.
Hi🤠
I have a huge oral exam in biology on Tuesday. Thank you CrashCourse for helping me recap everything I've learnt this semester and for making studying fun!
thx a lot it really helped me with my recent biology competitions
Hank ur awesome. U and john green should make a video together
have you heard of the vlogbrothers?
PINGPONGROCKSBRAH Yeah but they're not in the SAME video
Joe Zhang They are sometimes. When there are family reunions or when they visit each other.

thank you for existing so i can study for my science quiz tomorrow

This is helping so much with my AS Level Biology :) xxx
Crash course biology will forever be my favourite
Can someone who disliked the video tell me why they did so? Thanks

Hello comment explorer, looking for knowledge from the mighty crash course for your test tomorrow. May the odds be with you young champ.
You should create quiz after every video with questions on the topics discussed in each video, or during the video a pop quiz.
Hank, you're so great at delineating. Good job!!
I watched this video. :) (Reminders and proof about what CC vids I watched)
...
Animal, animal, not animal, animal.
The centrosome graphics kinda look like churros.
its funny how in 7th grade i was told to memorize all of these without actually knowing how exactly they worked
Crash Course is the greatest thing to ever have been created on youtube
This guy taught me organic chemistry
Wow!!
Cells
Learning new things about cell it's very fun.
Mabey a little bit.🤔
Studying for midterms with Hank? It's a pretty good day.

Mitochondria might have been a prokaryote that worked along eukaryote cells, then was taken over by the eukaryote cell, so they still have their DNA.
along with chloroplast (I believe).
Andy young yes but chloroplast is only in the plant cell :]
Maybe it's possible that they one day figured out how to live and work together to survive, kind of like a lichen?
This information is amazing.
I hope this video helps me with my AP bio exam tomorrow! Lol

I have been out of school for 10 months and crash course is helping me get back into my old year. Thank you sooooo much Hank and others
