    Have you read The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and and Stephen Baxter? It is also a parallel earths story but seems like it would be more whimsical than The Space Between Worlds (which I have added to my TBR). It has the kooky Pratchett ideas within a pretty solid sci-fi 'thought experiment' through line. Anyways, you might like it :)
