Everytime I watch the videos under this series by Aaditya, I get a new perspective and a new approach to solve other cases! These are undoubtedly one of the best sources for case solving preparation. Thank You!!
Hi, I've confusion in the part where you broke down the 'Dollar value'- Are we cancelling all other possibilities and picked %East going down as an assumption or are we asking this to the interviewer ??
Assuming that my cost stayed same (initial assumption) the 5% decline in profit would have been only accounted by a 5% decline in revenue. Now my revenue was made of premium (P) and mid premium (M) both having equal share. Suppose my revenue earlier was x, P's contribution was 0.5x and M's contribution was 0.5x. Now, revenue went to 0.95x (5% decline) but P's contribution was given as 25%, 25% of 0.95x is 0.24x so that makes M's contribution 0.61x. Clearly our revenue hasn't declined in Mid Premium Segment. It has gone up from 0.5x to 0.61x (roughly a 40% increase)
The fact that avg $ value per item is not changing is counter intuitive since we had the prior idea that our premium segment goods have show a drastic decline , or atleast some change in the factor of revenue equation , where am i thinking wrong ?
