I currently using Motorola Moto g fast. It's nice/fine... many features, quick access gestures.
I think Motorolas phones used to be fantastic - I had one of their cheaper models In 2014 and it was great, I dropped it all the time and at one point smashed it into a brick wall with force and the thing hardly dented - screen uncracked! Then they started moving everything overseas and the quality took a massive dive. When I bought a better modal in 2016 the screen cracked practically out of the box.
The three cardinal rules of history:
1. Don’t pay off national debts by printing more money
2. Don’t invade Russia in the winter
3. Don’t buy a company with the hope of competing with the iPhone
The third one is weird because some companies are defeating the iPhone in poor countries. Oppo and Redmi are killing it in Africa
@@ginpotion2412 What you're really getting at is it can done to great effect if you do a smarter buy. Google buying Android has obviously been great and they're crushing iPhones in terms of global market share. Microsoft showed a lot of hubris in their approach and it killed their mobile platform.

To be fair, the only real reason Motorola was purchased by Google was because Samsung looked like they were going to try to make their own operating system. Who wouldn't like that so they bought Motorola to send the message " hey use Android or we're going to become serious competitors ". And it kind of worked. Samsung backed off and development of their own OS.

Yessir, Google never cared about Motorola. When it came time to make the Pixel, Google poached almost all of HTC's smartphone department to make the Pixel.

I've only been on Tumblr for a few years but from what I've read on that site, people on Tumblr bullied a few celebrities into leaving Tumblr and they would do it again. lmao
Tumblr's format just doesn't allow for algorithms and advertisers and that's what made it the best social media

The fascinating thing about Microsoft making the Windows Phone is that it actually revolutionized user interfaces and pushed everyone towards simplified logos
I think they also did well with sellng those phones to companies/government, basically if you got a work specific phone it would be windows. When I was in foster care every single employee had a Windows Phone to use for work only. I think that may be why they were used for that, more simple in nature
@@michaelboyle7281 Had never heard of any company using Windows Phone before your comment, back then most were stuck on Blackberry due to the BIS software and features that would take the iPhone another 15 years to equal and the rest of companies were using various Android phones, mostly HTC back then, a handful of Nokia Symbian phones too.

Tumblr is really the only true social media platform left honestly. There's no longer any chance of revenue gain from ads so companies mass branding or celebrities don't exist there. It's literally just memes, fights, kinda interesting stuff, and soft core porn. Any ads that are put on tumblr are the strangest niche ads in the world and are mostly indistinguishable from a shitpost. It's poorly built and has a lot of frustrating functions. There's not even a structured way for people to form groups or collaborations (e.g. subreddits, fbook groups) which, in a way, is an ok thing bc it doesn't give a way for people of shared interests to group together, good or bad (e.g. incels). But it's, I think the closest platform that's probably what social media was intended to be.
I'm not a Nokia fan but from a product manager's point of view, Microsoft actually destroyed Nokia by forcing them to use their crappy OS with no good SDK and app development support. If Nokia was not that stubborn to let go of Symbian and adopted Android instead, their hardware could actually dominate the market. They used to make long-lasting phones; even their Lumia phones were pretty solid but they lost their fan base because of Windows and now it's too late for them to make android phones.
I might be crazy, but maybe that's why the phones felt better in my hands.
All these "new" producers and products feel off.
The OS was good, just the app support was terrible.
Google buying motorola wasn't too bad, they intimidated Samsung into sticking to using google platforms on their phones, and even after google sold motorola they held on to a lot of their patents and other intellectual properties iirc

The windows phone was actually a good concept. But lacked a good os, so less phone company and more on microsoft. It had some features that was actually innovative at the time, the screens were super responsive compared to the iPhone, OLED displays in 2010 etc. Good phone, but the os was a standalone, separate from android and ios and it had alot of issues etc. Looking forward to see what the new 2021 windows phones will come to.
Same issue with Fossil smartwatches! When i bought it some years ago, it had great hardware but was laggy and slow because of the google smartwatch OS.

The Tumblr acquisition was amazing because as soon as they bought it we all know it was a dogshit idea, and we all started to try tank the sites value as much as we could

I think people forget just how forward thinking AOL was, and how quickly they stopped being that way. I remember as a kid in 1996 that I could download mods for DOOM off AOL's gaming section. Yeah, sound packs, levels, etc. They were super forward thinking and then let greed get to them.

Motorola isn't that bad. I think the mistake was selling for 2 bill cause they have continued to grow to this day since then.
I had a windows phone, it was actually awesome hardware and had a really nice UI. Unfortunately no app support at all. Not even a native TH-cam or Snapchat client
So it was basically a total repeat of their awesome MP3 player.... lulz MS never learns do they?
they were the best experience but their app store was shit. they should have doubled down on the app store and crushed android, the phones were truly incredible. i kept one to try some stuff on and it's fucking smoother than most 6 month-old androids. truly great technology, just bad software compatibility

Regarding the windows phone, my mom had the Sprint Instinct, which was an early attempt at an iPhone killer in 2008. It worked, but it was in that same fugue state that all touch screen phones were in at the time, where there was no broad android OS to run everything on, no App Store or equivalent and importantly, was in the early days of mobile web architecture. That meant that websites didn’t yet detect whether you were accessing their page from a mobile device, and buttons on pages didn’t exist yet. To do anything, you had to find the hyperlinks, pinch to zoom, and click.
It wasn’t a bad phone per say, but there was clearly things it lacked that made competing with Apple impossible.

i actually had a windows phone, there was a bug where plane mode turned on for some reason and decided to never turn off again. never, even after factory resetting it. wasnt able to call at all. BUT i did throw it at the wall once, 0 damage done to the phone and actually chipped the wall

Broadcast but with a membership scheme that’s a little pricey but intended for twitch streamers to be able to stream music would be an amazing business idea.
Imagine like a 200-300$ a year license.
Big streamers are basically advertising your site, your PR online is insane, and you have added revenue to entice the music industry to sign a contract that allows people to re-stream music by proxy if paying for this premium service
That way streamers can pick a station, but not the songs. So they couldn’t just abuse that access to play solely 21 savage or solely queen. Plus I don’t mind someone talking between songs I actually like it

Motorola force z2, was my favorite phone. I dropped it into a toilet once and off the second story of my apartment twice( smoking 🚬 over the ledge) worked great for 2 years
Microsoft only bought out Nokias phone business. Nokia is still a huge global network equipment company. Funny thing is that Nokia has now licensed their phone brand to another Finnish company HMD Global which went back to basic and they make pretty good Android phones under Nokia brand. I own their XR20 which is one you can throw at a wall or drop in a beer glass without damaging it and I have been very happy with mine. Don't like bulking up my phone with covers so works great for me.😅

I used to have a windows phone, it was pretty good, would have gotten another one if they got a good app ecosystem for it, but it was lacking a lot compared to what you could get on android.
I had a windows phone and it had 4gb of storage, so I put in a 64 gb SD card to save stuff on the phone and a software update “scanned it” and removed “harmful software”, aka my photos of the last 2 years.
hate that phone.

Atrioc says that tumblr was killed when that's not true , as an avid tumblr user of many years i can tell you we're still here the only difference being most of the freak sex perverts left tumblr with the advent of the porn ban to head over to Twitter.
As a zoomer who's grown up on Tumblr I can tell you that is by far the best social media platform to be on right now ( a very low bar I'll admit) and its the best it's ever been.
Tumblr has become a group of people with extremely niche interests who aren't easy to advertise to and are not kind to outsiders , as if we were all old men sitting on our porches with a shot gun.
So when they ask you to bring out your dead just know we're still here.

windows phone was actually really good right up until they killed it with the 8.1 update because the update wasnt compatible with the existing apps and no one wanted to remake their apps for such a small market

I've never used a Windows Phone, but based on the reviews I read it had a good interface and good UX. The problem is that developers weren't writing apps for it. Everything was iOS and Android. If this product and OS had come out after iOS but before Android, it might have been received better by the public and developers.
