Grandpa knows what's good. It was originally recorded by Lead Belly in 1939. At that time it was an old, traditional work/folk song. RamJam recorded their version in 1977. I always thought they were a Southern rock band. Turns out they're from NEW YORK CITY!
Said, I play it where I live! G-ma's house. That is exactly what happened. 😅
Anyone else hear this in the pace picante ad voice? NEW YORK CITY?!
@@jamesnewman9547 That was a great ad with the cowboy then saying, "Get a rope."
Respect to your Grandpa. When I was in college in the mid-80s, this was played by every bar band around.
It makes me happy to hear that the 70's was your era. I am elated that I had the privilege of living in the 70's at the prime of my life. That decade gave the best of 3 worlds...acid and pop rock, then classic and southern rock, and then disco. I never partied and danced so much in my life as I did in the 70's. I'm not sure if any other decade matched such a variety of music. But I'm open if anyone enlightens me on that one. For me, there will never be another decade like it. And at 65 years old, I'm sure that will stand to my dying day.
Watching you and your reactions always puts a big smile on my face! You're awesome James!!!
It was a drug like speed..black betty they called em
Congratulations on your 100,000 subscribers! This is how we partied back in the day! Someone would bring a guitar, someone would have a set of drums and so on, when the band filled out the drugs and alcohol started flowing! There was always someone that could sing! This is 1977!
Say hello to your Grandpa for me from one grandparent to another!!
I saw a comment referring to the lead singer, "That dude looks like if Mountain Dew was a human," 😂 Now I can't unsee it.
We love you JB!!!!❤
One of the best one hit wonders there is, great reaction 😂❤
Excellent reaction!! The lead vocalist makes his own guitars!!!🎵🎼🎶🥁🎤🎙🎸🎹🔥🤘🤘🤘 Black Betty was a civil war musket rifle.
"Black Betty" was Ram Jam's only big hit in 1977. But it is one of the most fun & energetic songs. Just some dudes hanging out in someone's back yard & jamming out. Love it! "Black Betty" is a 20th-century African-American work song often credited to Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter as the author, though the earliest recordings are not by him.
While some may think “Black Betty” refers to a woman, others claim it’s a nickname for any number of objects, including a bottle of whiskey, a whip, an 18th century musket or even a penitentiary transfer wagon.
Not in this version just the black woman
Glad you came back to it for another chance
Great reaction!!! You have an old soul, that's why you like this stuff. Thats a great thing!!! Big time banger.
Super reaction and appreciation.
I swore you had put a video of this up before, sad to hear it's gone, but great to see you enjoy it again. This song used to a be a classic in the 80's and 90's that got played at football touch downs and the like. The song goes WAY beyond this version, like 1800's or further. Supposedly the song was originally about a musket, but as the song changed, so did it's focus as I feel that newer last line feels much more like it's aimed at a woman. And you can tell, if the woman was real or not, the singer (and writer for this version) is for sure feeling the song.
Grandpa has good taste. And you're wise to listen to him!😂
Great song
This is a fun song.
Hey my brother!, You have a gift for recognizing great music ,or as me and you say real music and real talent. Not that fake stuff out there... You are family to me my brother......God bless... James Zrenjad Desjardins
New to your channel, just finished your 911 reaction, made me think of my yime like your grandpa I'm 77 years old, from an integrated suburb of Detroit, being in the shadow of MOTOWN heard all kinds of music and di a covered music has no color. One of my favorite clips to show this is Appollo 57 , which was a historic night when Gary Busey plays Buddy Holly as the first white group to play at the Appollo theater. If you get to watch the clip would love to see your reaction to it. Cudos to you and your Grandfather.
😂 I LOVE your reaction. This is such a great song. I’ll let others explain what it’s about. But dayummm, GREAT song yeahhhh!
Is this a song about a stripper or what 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Eyy ohhh James this a classic! 😂🤣
This was a jam ! 🔥🔥🔥🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺
That is one damn nice rehearsal in the backyard! I wouldn't mind being their neighbor for sure! I'd come over and bring the briskies and the weed, and then we'd have a nice BBQ and jam until the sun came up!
I love your reaction!
Cost of this video...
2 twelve packs, two pizzas and a half bag of good weed. Your reaction... priceless.
You are looking well & healthy, Stay strong brother! 😘
Thank you I appreciate that !!! ❤️💯
@@JBLETHALTV - You are most welcome, this makes the second time I have been entertained by your reaction to this particular track, I appreciate your appreciation of Music et al!😊
You should really check out Spiderbait-Black Betty. It’s probably one of the best covers of any song. There’s a few reactors that have done it but every one is blown away.
Thanks Grandpa!
They were given $500 to make a video so they spent $450 on weed and beer and then filmed the video in their backyard 😂😎👵🏼💜☮️
Late 70's 77-78

Listen to your elders.

Black Betty was a gun.
Not in this version!
@@terryconnelly484 Please be specific as to how you came up with the information to declare that so authoritatively.
CLASSIC
The story goes they had $50 which they spent of beer and weed. Black Betty can refer to a number of things, including Cannon Balls, a Black woman, the oil used to grease weaponry.
Ham Ambulance!
