These monsters put out well over 2000 Watts of power in the sprints - do you know what this is? Thats enough to run all the lights in a modern medium sized home, power a small kettle and fire up a hair dryer
@dnm25 that little thing on the back of his saddle is a SRM head. That is a computer unit that registers the rider power output, heart rate, cadence, speed etc. The power is sent from strain gauges in the crank spider and measured in Watts.
Keirin is what makes track cycling understandable and spectacular even for outsiders. It should be the main focus of all competitions. So there should be two, tree or more keirin BMI-classes. (body mass index) This way you measure height/muscle-relation and can put fair classes together. for example: class over BMI 25 (the original track sprinters), class BMI 22-25 (road sprinters), class under BMI 22 (enduros)
Ive been inspired by beijing and london. I really want to start track cycling but I dont really know how to get started. I'd love some advice on how to get into it. My closest velodrome is Manchester. I'm aware im slightly old to start thinking im going to be an olympic champion, 16 years, but i've done a lot of road and off road cycling since the age of 8. Doing long 30-40 mile rides some weekends. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thankyou!
thanks for posting!! Is this the same Chris Hoy that was winning like 10-12 years ago? and is still winning? If so Wow talk about talor made for this racing.
@peteallez hi there smart pants. you select a gear to race in. Each bike will have a specific gear ratio. I'm wondering how his ratio compared to the others. He looked comfortable and didn't spin out, since he went way faster I'm thinking he had a higher gear ratio: requiring more force, which clearly he has plenty of.
This game is essentially all about the sprint. just stay back in 4th or 5th so that you get no air resistance and then pump your thick thigh muscle to win the race
@WeAre4EverUnited its one of the best 1 manned vehicles out on the road geared bikes or just a single speed like this where you cant stop peddling all great machines im sure you would love it just like me
Nope, nobody wants to be in front. You can't see your competitors behind you. So you could be going full pelt for 8 laps while your competitors are going at a slower pace but conserving their energy and then all of a sudden they come flying past you with a lap or two to go. It's all tactics, alot more technical than people think
If you've ever seen Nascar, the cars have to follow behind a "lead" car for at least a lap or so, the same goes with track cycling, they have to follow behind a "lead" cyclist for a few laps..I'm not sure why they do this, but maybe it's just to give the cyclists a couple warm-up laps to get a feel for the track and get loose before they start racing..
@@Stanced965 Well, I don't have a working bicycle anymore, but I tried riding an electric bike for the first time, about a year or two ago, however the motor broke down, and the "experiment" failed. I ride a Razor EcoSmart Metro electric scooter now, if you can call that "riding"...
Funny you should say that. I raced MX and desert in High School, and was very good at it. I wanted to try Competitive Cycling, and raced it all, road, track, MTB, CX, BMX, and was very good at it too. It is a persons desire, not the sport, that makes or breaks you. Cycling is one of the most difficult sports I know of. That's why I liked it, and why most people fail at it. Motocross was easy compared to Cycling. Have YOU ever won an Elite category road race? I have.
I don't know if you are attempting to troll, or whatever. EPO improves your white cell count, and therefore your endurance - does this look like an extreme endurance event to you? :) It's more likely that they use steroids, testosteron or some other drug to get more muscles. The green bike is there to set the pace, if it's not there the first laps will be incredibly slow and the other bikes would practically stand still since no one wants to take the lead and waste their own energy for others.
@gaz545 I thought he had lost it/ let Awang in; how wrong was I. It was blistering; actualy I think it was so fast that it might of contributed to the crash through the WTF factor!
why is that i call it the pace bike ... why he still in the race ??? i was thinking okay after a lap he was going to just pull to the side and the race starts ... but they keep fallowing him lol ....
Dato Azizul Hasni Awang is the best 👍🏻❤️
NASCAR with bikes.
These monsters put out well over 2000 Watts of power in the sprints - do you know what this is? Thats enough to run all the lights in a modern medium sized home, power a small kettle and fire up a hair dryer
it is freaking insane.
That's only 2.7 horsepower.
@dnm25 that little thing on the back of his saddle is a SRM head. That is a computer unit that registers the rider power output, heart rate, cadence, speed etc. The power is sent from strain gauges in the crank spider and measured in Watts.
he is just so fast , hes one of my favorite rider
I think aziz awang deserves some more praise here
He got a 10 inch spike through his leg after the crash and still finished 3rd.....
Definitely
thnks bro

can someone please explain to me the reason for the moped?
This sport takes serious leg power plus mental fortitude.
and cardio
Haha cardio?? no pal, it really doesnt. A kilo, yes, but match sprinting or keirin, no, not really.
That moped always wins and the smug git always makes it look so easy too!

OWNED
I like the pace bike in front...does it have a motor?
So fast the turbulence of his wake causes crashes; Hoy is a beast.
Well said, Sir!
@HLaB75 have you seen the aftermath and the splinter?
This game is essentially all about the sprint. just stay back in 4th or 5th so that you get no air resistance and then pump your thick thigh muscle to win the race
Damn! these guys were going almost 45 mph. This very cool!
Jees, that crash....!!!! Did it take every rider down?
wow that's absolutley awesome! 2:35 is crazy
first time watching track cycling.... seems pretty legit...
What's the best track wheels for use outside of the velodrome?
Miche?
@WeAre4EverUnited its one of the best 1 manned vehicles out on the road geared bikes or just a single speed like this where you cant stop peddling all great machines im sure you would love it just like me
What are the rules in track cycling? can you explain it to me ?
The adrenaline people!! Man I'm a fixie rider too😂
how big is their gear ratios?
@bloozn69plus1 its like 96"-92" I think
what is the point to play follow the leader for like 4 laps?
That was actually pretty intense.
了不起~~ 佩服佩服!真不愧是世界冠軍
@dnm25 its a track bike- it doesn't have gears...
so who is the second?
Nope, nobody wants to be in front. You can't see your competitors behind you. So you could be going full pelt for 8 laps while your competitors are going at a slower pace but conserving their energy and then all of a sudden they come flying past you with a lap or two to go. Yeah, and it also stops the race becoming a six-up match sprint, leaaving some speed to keep it interesting.
Was that a Leader frame?
I thought the winner was Martin Brodeur there for a second. For you Brits that's the most winningest NHL goalie of all time. Compare the photos.
the reason why it gets exciting is because of the fast acceleration after the lead bike gets off of the course
this is my first time ever even hearing about this. but why does an official lead the pack the first couple of laps?
I am not familiar with this why does that green bike in the front lead them for so long?
@bloozn69plus1 I would guess they are pushing a 56-12 or 56-11. Not sure though.
Kind of a warm up?
If you've ever seen Nascar, the cars have to follow behind a "lead" car for at least a lap or so, the same goes with track cycling, they have to follow behind a "lead" cyclist for a few laps..I'm not sure why they do this, but maybe it's just to give the cyclists a couple warm-up laps to get a feel for the track and get loose before they start racing..
@dnm25 ah i see what you were trying to say, yeah his legs are massive could have been a high gear ratio
He's the pace setter, i guess its just how keirin race's start, instead of a standing start
it's a 33cm alpina carbon track drop.
Hey found this in my fyp
the pace bike is just too funny...
Why is it necessary for the Derny to be there? Like, why do they need to be paced?
can any body tell y there is guy cycling in the front at the start
Hoy isn't even human. Neither are his doctors.
Hoy owns this event
woooooooooops!!!!!!
Awesome.
I would LOVE to play THIS sport, as much as I like to watch it! Where can I go to race bicycles on a track here in the States?!
Hey are you still riding
@@Stanced965 Well, I don't have a working bicycle anymore, but I tried riding an electric bike for the first time, about a year or two ago, however the motor broke down, and the "experiment" failed. I ride a Razor EcoSmart Metro electric scooter now, if you can call that "riding"...
@@WarringPacifist but did you try to race with road bikes something like in the vid
@@Stanced965 No, I never did, but this video is still a fascinating "window" into this exciting sport. Take care, and thanks for asking.
@@WarringPacifist keep safe sir thanks too hope you still love riding bikes
Jason kenny is a 300cc engine on a bicycle.
ok thanks for the advice!
what is the ratio of those bikes?
possibly 3.6
And also, why can't you pass the Derny?
@HariVIyer Yes and it travels 45kmh
World Cup and World Championship = Big Difference
A win is awesome but I hope those guys were ok...

@spoung45a Yip, just check out the vid - Awang's Splinter ;-)
I must admit like the commentators however, I missed it the first time!
god damn Chris Hoy is a monster
70 km/h?! Now that's really fast.
I don't know if you are attempting to troll, or whatever. Amazing chris hoy
haha was he the only one that finished?
Why is that one dude wearing a road helmet?!
except this has been around longer....
Let this be a lesson: Don't try to hold Chris Hoy's wheel.
This is the world cup, its different to the world championships.
Oddly enough the pace bike does have a gas engine. They need to maintain a consistent speed. But they could do that with an electric bike.
If Nascar had a 8 lap sprint race then yes it would be :)
Keirin 2011 final
... did you notice the LOL on the end of my comment ?
wtf is that pace bike? is it electric or something? why so odd?
@gaz545 I thought he had lost it/ let Awang in; how wrong was I. It was blistering; actualy I think it was so fast that it might of contributed to the crash through the WTF factor!

Anyone notice how ridiculously narrow Hoy's handlebars are?
making sure you dont get boxed in, if you do you're screwed
Hoy is a machine! :O :)
@munchbox1995 Its main job is to set the pace for the riders.
@HariVIyer yes
old lad was doing well for ages
Thats what I call the last man standing lol
@nocnylis Angielskiego się naucz to się dowiesz z komentarza czy był.
"LOL" doesn't equate to "everything i said before this was a joke". Whatevs.
Some of those looked like hold fast straps
I always wonder about the exaust in the face of the guy behind the journeyman
It looks like one of the guys is trying to skid
I hope you realize that was a motorized scooter...not in the race.
It was last man cycling! :D
sorry, account mustve been hacked
holy shit this is intense!!
