This was my main live gigging guitar when I used to play in a band. It's super light and a reliable workhorse. Definitely one of the most underrated guitars of that period. Just missing a bit of "clarity" from Seymour Duncan and being a 2 wire PUs you can't split them. But with a modeling amplifier or a digital system it's easy to find the right sound.
Thanks for sharing your story! It was my main gigging guitar too, using it as the “acoustic” as well (cause lazy to lug around a separate acoustic guitar).
6:58 Bobby Strand's interlude on David Funk's rendition of Touch of Heaven that went live some time in November 2019 as part of a worship night, only to be repackaged, and remixed as David Funk's single as a Bethel Artist in 2021 as the world was slowly opening up again. That line, and that whole extended moment was the first time in a while I was actively chasing a certain sound.
I was lucky enough to get this exact model (Yamaha RGX820Z Deep Blue Burst) in a trade a few years ago. I didn’t even really know what it was at the time, but it blew me away and converted me to Yamaha.
The one in orange was my first good guitar, back in 2003. Before I just had a Peavey Raptor Special that came in a kit with a Rage 158 amp. It was okay-ish, but the Yamaha obviously was a significant update :)
Oh no.... now i need this one. Along with the Revstar with the P90s. Still playing my RGX121D. Rhett Shull I think recently said something about Yamaha..... there's something wrong with their marketing department. Their guitars should fly off the shelves. Severely severely underrated.
The late 90's and early 2000's was such a different time for Yamaha. A solid line-up of artists and signature models, a company that seemed to be in touch with the player base. I believe the Revstar is a step in the right direction!

I bought one brand new back in 2002, love it
When it was still in production! That's a keeper!

This is the exam answer that earns bonus marks! Thanks for the specifics. I’ve always felt historical detail was important in tone crafting.
@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar don’t forget a Julia type tremolo! :D I was able to emulate that with one of the Zoom multistomps.

Nice! Such underrated instruments. If I get the chance to I want to play a Yamaha SG, their version of a Les Paul.

That orange was superb colour! Yes Yamaha in the 2000’s had a lot of value for price.
Nice to see those MXR mini pedals. I am addicted to them.
I think I’m beginning to see and hear the hype. The MXR Timmy is indistinguishable from what I remember of the real Timmy!
Yamaha really underrated . awesome service !
Indeed! Everyone knows their lower end instruments but no one seems to give their middle or upper tier instruments a chance.

I'm addicted to my Gibson Custom 64 SG and LP R9.
That R9 must be an amazing specimen too beautiful to play!
Yamaha almost always punches above it's weight. If I can find one, I'll probably take a chance on it.
IKR! Excellent value for the price point and specs offered. You won't regret it!
