Despite people not liking the animation , i love it it has its own styles and using the GPS while shooting is funny like gunning down a cannibal while making sure you're not going away from the cave you wanted to explore
I actually dont hate how he shoots with the gps in one it actually kinda reminds me of atomic heart how p3 will being doing something with his left hand and still will be able to reload and also I dont think it would be crazy if a highly trained mercanary would be able to double task between holding something and shooting

Have to give them credit for using a crank on the crossbow instead of using his naked hand. Gordon Freeman can do that, he's in a powered exoskeleton suit. For everybody else it just makes it look like your crossbow is made of yarn. Am I right people? 10:07 GIVE. ME. FIVE.

Gordon uses a specially designed lever in Half Life 1, and in 2 it has a mechanism for retracting automatically.
@@peppermillers8361The lever in HL1 is a straight pull with his hand, and the suit does the work. In HL2 the string kind of just magically sets itself up for him. Quantum physics no doubt!
@@CreepyPersonCube. It was a weapon designed for human beings, I highly doubt that outside of extra leverage from the suit, it's mega hard to pull without it.
Look up the concept art, the retracting bolt is actually intentional. It's a mechanism that retracts itself, VALVE just did a shit job at displaying it, whether through animation or sound.
@@peppermillers8361It's possible you're right about the xbows, especially the HL2 model. Kind of just popped into my head first. I'm kind of hoping one day for a game where you reload a xbow via foot stirrup, where you have to actively look down to step into the xbow, then lift your camera to simulate using your whole body to draw it.
I stand by my high five though.
Fun fact: The futuristic nature of the weapons is because Sons Of The Forest is set in the year 2032

Kind of weird that the devs didnt work on making the gun animations better for the full release but at least the game is fun
It is a horror game, if shooting was less clunky sure it may be more satisfying but also less scary.
for those of you that say the animations are bad on the guns which I personally don't find that bad- not saying they are god tier. I think you have to come to terms that Endnight Games (Indie Game dev team that created The forest and sons of the forest) is a small team and this is they're 2nd time creating a game. many people expect tactical COD God tier animations but this is a survival game not cod other video games with similar reload animations are games like SCP: Secret Laboratory And DayZ and people highly enjoy them at the end of the day we are here to enjoy the showcase and not solely rely on just the animations.
Ready or Not; Scum; Squad; Ground Branch among others would all like to have a word with you.
The animations in SCP: Secret Laboratory and DayZ are far superior to these ones. And SCP Secret Lab is an indie game, too. It's obvious that these will be polished further in the future, but you can't deny that this isn't as barebones as it gets.

as someone has already mentioned ready or not for example was an indie project, and endnight has made millions between this forest and the last. I get it you enjoy the game but you can still criticize it, the gun sounds and animations are extremely rough and sound like steam new release asset flips

it quite literally is. all first person animations actually come from a character model that the camera is attached to, there are no traditional view models. you can tell when playing multiplayer

i still remember when i was killing cannibals w the slingshot because my first playthrough was in hard survival and i was afraid of melee combat because of the high damage the cannibals could deal

I don't play the game but It's called Viewmodel FOV, and you can probably change It in the configs of the game. Look It up.

Regarding animation, I would rather have photos realistic of the environment and good game mechanics than good animation; it is a small and specialized studio, after all.
i understand that the animations aren’t entirely lifelike, but i can tell they put effort into them, and i like them. also, they’re way better than a lot of animations i’ve seen in other games, so i have to give this one a pass

Honestly I would call this game much more life-like than most games. Also the player isn't trained with weapons he's a member of the press so it makes sense they way he would half ass holding a wepon

apparently the newest gun of the game was the sniper rifle... I would like a little more like a Double barrel shotgun or a Nitro rifle. or another big-caliber one shot gun like the Thompson Contender. in the original Forest game there was also a flare pistol

Guys , this is not some kind of cod with awesome animations, everything in this game is so awesome, what the hell don’t you like?
The animations are terrible. Very stiff and awkward, take too long for many things, and unrealistic. The slide locks back when you reload, even when it’s partially full, there’s no weapon sway, the weapons are held in an awkward position, the rifle animations are dumb as hell (should be faster, and typically you grip the bolt with the top of your hand), there’s no scope for the rifle, the revolver animation is super weird and buggy, the shotgun has an extra animation that’s useless, takes longer, and just sucks, the shotgun also goes into your chest when you ads, the pistol laser goes on top of it for some reason (also a problem with the shotgun and crossbow), the sounds are underwhelming. The pistol is one of the worst to me, as it is way too quiet when suppressed, has too much recoil (your character has the same amount of recoil with a 357 revolver for some reason), and shit animations.

Try shooting a shotgun or rifle one-handed in real life while holding a GPS device in your other hand and see how hard and slow it is to use, buddy.

For a game so focused on guns, the sounds and animations are atrocious. The pistol sounds like it is being shot in an industrial area full of containers; the reload animation acts as if the gun was empty although is still has a round chambered; and let's just be silent about that silenced pistol.

honestly, the animations are kinda wack but i understand why. the game is melee oriented and was possibly never intended to have guns. i've seen free games have better gun animations from 2017 but they're pvp oriented so it doesnt really matter.

I didn't think the reloads looked that bad. They weren't Battlefield 1 level great, but I liked the originality from the crossbow and shotgun.

The video didn't show this but most mele weapons have: normal swing, power attack, downward attack, block and parry. It doesn't really show without being in an actual fight but the melee combat is some of the best I've ever seen

Not gonna lie, I've seen Minecraft mods with better animations than this, and we're talking about MODS, not other indie games. They feel janky and just off, and the shotgun somehow seems too big? Probably because of the way it's positioned. Anyway, these ain't the worst animations I've seen, Fallout taught me that lol, but yeah. Pretty mid animations. The only one I'd say was kinda okay was the rifle

@763 I've played randomizer games in Roblox in which guns are really a secondary thing. However those animations were much smoother and more satisfying than these. Honestly, animations on a game are also important, since it shows how much effort the developers have put into the game. If we compare the meelee animations with the gun animations we can see a large gap, and honestly? That ain't good. That just makes the it feel as if some areas were rushed and barely finished
