      @@mariobots that guy is fake but autuentic silk and embroided saris here in west bengal and bangladesh can cost upto 5-10 thousands depending on the style of sari. Normal silk saris can cost 1000-2000 rupees. So the amount the guy was asking was not absurd. But he definetly tried to sell nylon sari instead of authentic one.
      Also if you are foreigner and want to buy our traditional cloth, I think you should be more open hearted and buy authentic piece of clothing. It might cost but really in local market is a lot cheaper compared to the sari sold in USA or UK. 300 rupees for a sari just sounds like he is disrespecting our traditional crafters.

      @@pranaysen7249 then that silk must have real gold work in it . Usually saree that cost about 60k would have pure silver thread work and that a little higher would have pure gold work .. good work ( depending on grams of gold used ) can start even from 50000 rupees .
      Also prices differ with different kinds of silk like wood silk vs cultivated silk .. then the kind of weaving : hand woven or machine woven , then the kind of weaving done and kind of thread work done . There’s a lot to it : it’s an art form truly

    • @YinYanUzumaki
      @YinYanUzumaki ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@alexgaudet2159 not necessarily. A saree typically is of 9 yards and a decent pure silk saree ( with zero thread work or zari or border etc usually desired in sarees ) can come as low as 6000 rupees so definitely less than 100$ per yard . But this is the minimum and upper limit you have mentioned is accurate but sometimes the cost of hand weaving ( there are multiple hand weaving techniques that result in different texture , sheen etc ) can alter prices . Also sarees do tend to contain pure gold thread or solve weaving running through saree too .

If someone is willing to risk lighting their fabric, that only tell me that item is disposable for the seller. The only way you can discern real silk without a microscope is with an experienced aunty. The smoothness and texture of the fabric is the only way you can discern if it's mostly silk or blended mostly with something else.

    if its pure silk then just look for the silk tag its on the cloth or ask the shopkeeper

    • @DVNGhostNBUNNy
      @DVNGhostNBUNNy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If they make their own I doubt their will be a tag. Not all silk comes from a factory with a tag of authenticity especially in other countries plus you have to worry still because they don't have laws like we do about lying about products. Plus he's a American and I'd say some want to ask Americans for more money than they ask locals.

    If you don't mind can you bargain in America like this? And honestly tell me how much it would cost in America?

    all of you saying he has better bargaining skills....it's not skills, because he is a foreigner he gets that price, cause those shopkeepers will never see him again....but even to an Indian they won't sell at such prices.
