Dear Elizabeth, you simply MUST hear "Mountains" from the "Sign of the hammer" album. *Goosebumps guaranteed!!!* Eric's voice is so powerful and sublime on this song...
You like Ayreon. You like Avantasia. You Like Eric Adams. I believe you have to listen to David DeFeis, either in Virgin Steele (Invictus would be a great starter) or Avantasia (I'd recommend The Final Sacrifice)
Manowar are quite over-the-top in pretty much every aspect, and that's what people love or hate or love to hate about them, but one thing can't be denied - Eric has a tremendously powerful voice with insane highs and lungs like a pair of bellows. In the studio version of "Black Wind, Fire, and Steel" he holds a G#5 for 33 seconds straight. Not bad for a guy who's pretty much self-taught. And let's not forget these guys once had a 5+ hour concert. I should know, I was there :)
Well said my friend!I had my time in the 80is+ with them, but it's not my kind of thing anymore! But I loved being a Manowar Maniac back then!Undeniable that they wrote an important page in the book of Heavy Metal History!
I was gonna mention the 33 second hold, I'm really happy someone beat me to it as I barely ever see anyone mention it when discussing vocal feats in metal
The unofficial anthem of metal fans, all over the globe. Metal goes much deeper than just music and this song encapsulates exactly that. Metal is an utter and complete brotherhood.
Hey! If you don't mind, can you explain why this is the unofficial anthem of metal fans? I've always loved it, it resonated with me. Is this a consensus that everyone just come to on their own like me... or is there another story behind this?
Абсолютно солидарен с вами. Как только я услышал в первый раз этот трек, я сразу убедился в этом. Эта композиция определённо гимн всех тех кто обожает металл 🤘
@@lexsodz Well, I'll try to explain it: I am a hobby DJ and when I play this a 2 in the morning, it doesn't matter of you are a "true" metalhead, poser, glamrocker, actual satanist or secret Scorpions fan - ALL of them enter the dancefloor, raise their fists and sing along together. The song is cheesy as hell but nobody minds. It is beyond being a parody of metal, it encapsulates everything metal is about in a comical but good way. It's a common interest, a guilty pleasure we all love to share, it has become the one song where you can do all kinds of postures without anyone making fun of you. I mean, the lyrics are all about uniting for a common cause and there is nothing more primordial in this world than warriors gathering to fight for a good cause. When this song is on, we are all brothers, regardless where we come from or how we look like. Again, it is as cheesy as it sounds but it is SO rewarding to participate. It could probably be a different song but this one started it and it will never stop to recruit new believers.
@@Puschit1 Its not a Cheesy song at all. The lyrics arent at all cheesy. Its the very thing this world needs to hear. Eric Adams sometimes get this but what else gets every guy out there to sing along all around the world?
Justin Bieber is much, much younger and he cancelled concerts because of diarrhoea. Just imagine what kind of weak generations come... How they will survive in a raw world?
Little more info. His Mother past away, and she always said, You have beautiful voice, why don't You sing something "nice". He put this on the (metal!)album to honor her.
Eric Adams is up there with Dio, Gillan, Dickinson and Geoff Tate. This song is ok, but doesn't do justice to his enormous vocal range. Try listening to Mountains, Bridge of Death, Defender (long version), Dark Avenger, Each Dawn I Die, Guyana, Heart of Steel, Battle Hymn, Revelation, Master of the Wind, Secret of Steel, Blood of my Enemies, Gates of Valhalla, Nessun Dorma cover etc....
Manowar is some guilty pleasure of mine and have seen them live countless times but I somehow hate this song. Its a bit like when you like ACDC or Maiden but hate "Highway to Hell" and "Number of the Beast" because its just the one song that gets too inflationary use compared to other way better songs.
@@cyberiankorninger1025 I'm long past my "true fucking heavy metal" days, when I listened to plenty of Manowar, but it's still a rare guilty pleasure of mine too (I do still enjoy the hell out of Defender, for one). Warrior of the World though, whatever we may think about it... It's the metal anthem if there ever was one.
There are far better ManOwaR songs and songs that showcase Eric’s mighty voice, but great to see him get the Charismatic treatment. In his younger days he was incredible.
the artist known as Eric Adams had a 4 octave crystal clear vocal range at 17 and had so much power that in alot of places he didn't even need a mic. I remember his sister came into homeroom with a first pressing of Manowar -Battlehymns". I still have it after all of these years . While they were on tour for Battle hymns,. the band I was in would play "Metal Daze" as a tribute to the band we knew and loved who left the small town we were from to go to England and take on the Metal World with something new and exciting. They really worked their asses off since day one and after 40 years STILL deserve the respect they earned the hard way.
Out of all the metal vocalists Eric Adams is the one who doesn't get as much praise as he deserves. He has natural talent, range, power and control and is one of the rare vocalists that can still really bring it today.
I know. right? The edit of the video too was just terrible. And I cant blame Eric for the silent bits...man is getting up there in age. But, we are Immortals, as are they!
METAL TRIUMPHS AGAIN! Eric Adams is a singer whose singing technique is extremely precise, is very thoughtful to the story he tells the audience, the sound is unique, there are excellent bell canto techniques in here without it being opera, it’s all awesome. \m/ HAIL METAL! \m/
Manowar is Legendary... they hold 2 world records 1. Longest show... 9+hours 2. Loudest show ever performed. Joey DeMaio is a genius when it comes to writing the Lyrics and the music. Eric Adams is truly the icing on the Epic Heavy Metal Cake that is Manowar. The first held high while grabbing the whist with the other hand is a staple of Manowarriors. HAIL, HAIL, HAIL AND KILL!
Loudest Band-world record, it was in 1994 in music hall in hannover, germany....i was there.......and guinnes book of world records, too. Joey don´t write the classical hymns alone........don´t forget Ross the Boss !!!!!!!
Also: According to Manowar\'s official biography, custom stainless steel drum kits had to be built for Scott because his drumming technique was so \"vicious.
@@TheOystei the world record was played before the Show without audience....only with the officials of Guinness book of world records.....IT was not allowed to Play so loud during the Show....
To be honest, he took some opera singing lessons, to be as good as possible (for a Non-Opera-Singer) at this performance. I think they mentioned that on one of the DVSs..
Dear Elizabeth, it has already been mentioned in the comments: like Bruce Dickinson, Eric Adams had his prime in the mid-eighties. I'd like to suggest the studio recordings of the songs "Battle Hymn" and "Defender". The latter features Orson Welles voicing the protagonist's father, a very beautiful, emotional ballad. Thank you very much for your work!
@@vladdracul1769 he absolutely does retain his range. the band downtuned since Warriors of the World from standard guitar E, down a whole step to D in an attempt to keep their sound relevant in a world of metal bands down tuning and using 7, 8 and 9 string guitars. one step is not a big deal for some people but in Eric's case its on the limit of his lower range. clearly he still pulls it off, albeit with a stylistic change on the lower notes which in metal is the scalar root and the most sung note in the song. he soars as much as ever when the music calls for it. always tasteful and within the realms the song and key/scale requires. my favourite metal singer of all time. ive been a metal musician since the 80s and nobody delivers the goosebumps like Eric and Manowar do \m/ theres Rob Halford who can produce some crazy vocals in the studio and i love dearly, Dio and more, but for me there's Eric and daylight second. YEAAAAAGGGHHHHHHH \m/
I saw them in 1984 in A Brooklyn club cant believe they are still around yet popular .Use to watch them practice their studio was next door to my friends band.
Hmmmm... RJD: Metal God Bruce Dickinson : King of Metal Doro Pesch : Queen of Metal Eric Adams : Preacher of Metal Miss Elizabeth : Princess of Metal Metal Kingdom complete?
Eric Adams is my favorite singer. His range, tone, pitch etc etc makes him a vocal gymnast. He can do anything with his voice. You may want to give his version of Nessun Dorma a listen. I think you will be highly impressed. There are so many songs to choose from to react to but the ones I always like to recommend are Hatred, March For Revenge, Guyana (Cult Of The Damned), Heart of Steel, Gloves of Metal, Secret of Steel, and my favorite vocal performance of his, Gates of Vahalla. Listen to the live versions.
Eric is showing less than 20% of his potential in this one. Check out Master Of The Wind, Hail And Kill, Dark Avenger, Secret Of Steel, Demon''s Whip, The Crown And The Ring, Nessun Dorma, Hearth Of Steel, Mountains, Blood Of The Kings...
Its not "showing", he can't do it anymore...I get frustrated with two things, that no reactor/reviewer ever do Manowar, and they CAN'T do reactions on their late work, gotta be pre 2000's stuff!
I hope she listens the studio version eventually, it has more voice and instrument work than the live one, Eric Adams is one of the best voices in heavy metal. 🤘
Eric Adams vocal performances on the Fighting the World and Kings of Metal albums are absolutely unreal. This particular song really doesn't even begin to show you all that he has to offer
Anybody want to see a 3 hour voice analysis by Elizabeth ... Then we all need to start requesting Achilles, Agony and Ecstacy. Imagine her start and rewinding a 28 minute long song.
I friggin hate that. Stops, talks, rewinds, then stops at the same point she stopped earlier, talks some more etc etc. Listen to the whole song then talk.
@@metalking706 yupp. Never been one I really cared for but that's because I can't understand it. Personally I think almost anything off "Fighting the world" is a good introduction to Manowar.
Eric Adams has a HUGE voice. It is sadly overlooked by many. You should go back and hear the 80s/90s stuff. This performance is at pretty much the end if their career.
What - the end of their career?? Come on, that performance was one and a half decades ago, and they're not at the end of their career yet!! Maybe you should stick the truth, don't you agree?
@@DemonhunterPaul Don't take the "final" part of this at face value though. Joey seems to change his mind about quitting somewhat regularly. Last I saw them live (March 2019) he went on about how he never said he'd call it quits. One of the reasons he makes it so goddamn hard to defend this band from criticism. That man needs an ego check every once a while :D
This song is special to us fans, particularly the Vets among us for who had "Skin in the Game" so to speak. Another Spectacular vid. Many thanx Elizabeth 👍👍😉
Elizabeth... with all the respect... he cannot remind you of somebody else. The others remind you of Eric Adams. He was there before everybody else. The way Manowar perform and Eric sings... is unique in rock and metal history. He is definitely one of the top 3 singers in metal history and imagine he is old now and still a diamond. Manowar is not a new band. They are here almost 45 years. You just chose a song that is not representative of his capabilities, which is normal of course, nothing bad, ok... the song is marvelous :)
"With dreams of being a king, FIRST one should be a man!" If there ever was a life lesson in this song, it's that one. Humility is something that so few see the value of these days.
@@paperbagfilms We think about the real Thor! The redbearded and you write about this arse....s. May the gods, not those who are a joke, punish you forever.
This song is not good enough to show the vocal talent of Eric Adams, but it can be the good beginning ! I suggest 6 songs from ManOwaR, Choose one of them: Mountains, Dark Avenger, Gates of Valhalla, Hatred, Blood of My Enemies, Secret of Steel Happy New Year 🎊
Wholeheartedly agree that Warriors of the World is NOT a good song to showcase Eric Adams or Manowar. Black Wind Fire and Steel would be my go to choice as an introduction song.
If you're listening to MANOWAR, deffinitely listen to "MASTER OF THE WIND", "HEART OF STEEL", "CROWN AND THE RING" and also.... * drum roll *... "NESUN DORMA". Yup. you read it right. Eric performs Nesun Dorma as a tribute to his mother, who was an opera singer. Give it a shot :)
Like others here I would suggest the ballads "Master of the Wind" and especially "Heart of Steel" (which is more personal for me, it was a favourite song of my mother who died last year).
Just checked in early to see if there's much whining about the song choice. Wasn't disappointed :D. I'm just glad you finally arrived at Manowar and the force of nature that is Eric Adams, voice and all. Hoping to see more reactions in the near future. Great recommendations have already been made. It might be hard to find great live footage for a lot of Manowar songs, so maybe studio versions are the way to go. My top three wishlist for this band: *1. Black Wind, Fire and Steel* *2. Gates of Valhalla* *3. Courage (just because I love cheesy power ballads - and because it's a great song :D)*
I'm truly glad that you, at last, had decided to analyze some Manowar music. Nevertheless, although this is currently the main "official anthem" of Manowar you should cover other songs that are far better than this, as some people are recommending you, as: Mountains, Gates of Walhalla, March for Revenge, Revelations, Secret of Steel, Bridge of Death, Battle Hymns, Spirit Horse of the Cherokee, Master of the Wind, Defender, Heart of Steel and many others. Additionally, I wonder if you have heard before of another band very like Manowar called Virgin Steele. That's Barbaric Romantic Metal, as they say they sing. Very bright singer with a nice voice, with a very high and very low vocal ranges and very symphonic and epic and operistic songs.
Eric Adams is in my opinion one of the best "word painters" there is. He sings the emotion behind words very wel. When he says 'angry' he actually pronounces it in an angry way. When he sings about something glorious he sings it in an epic way. He literally paints the meaning of the words with his voice and that's something not a lot of vocalists do or think of doing yet it adds so much to the songs, very captivating!
Ah, you found "The loudest band in the world". You will find that every member of the audience is engaged, knows every word of every song. Amazing band live. I'll Echo others, you need to hear "Heart of Steel", their best ballad. So good they also sing it as Herz aus Stahl, because they are huge in Germany.
I heard Manowar for the first time when i was a young teenager, what was over 30 years ago. The atmosphere, lyrics and specifically that vocal, all that together was one of the best musical experiences i had in my life. I find Eric Adam's voice unrivalled in metal scene. Combined with those lyrics about myths, heroic deeds and warriors from times long gone he creates something unique. It's like a journey through ancient times and lands. For a fantasy fan like me it is something wonderful.
There is tons of bands influenced by Manowar, and there are lots of those on folk/powermetal scene those use thematics of fantasy/medieval/viking battle world with usually great vocal lines. Of such, I binge among Amon Amarth, Turisas, Ensiferum, Skálmöld, Brothers of Metal etc etc.
There are more bands that are influenced by Manowar than would admit it. Bathory pretty clearly borrowed equal parts of Venom and Manowar in forging what would become "viking metal" - a lot of bands would credit Bathory for that shtick, but Manowar did it first, would have been the first band most metal musicians over the decades heard doing it, and is still one of the best at it to this day.
It's even better, when you realize that the character Eric Adams is playing here is (probably) Conan. Like, the actual barbarian created by Robert E. Howard in the 1930s. Here is a quote from "The Phoenix on the Sword": "Rush and die, dogs - I was a man before I was a king!" Anyway, Eric Adams is my favorite singer and he has been my favorite singer since about 20 years ago, when I stumbled upon "Kings of Metal" - which, btw, is an incredible work of art. (Power metal is what it is - to a huge extent - because of that album.) If there is one thing that any young metal singer can and should learn from him, it's that if you take care of your voice, you will still sound great in your 60s or even your 70s. He's lost some of the high notes that he could reach in his 30s, but, other than that, he's kept his voice just as powerful as it was back then. Maybe the fact that he's never lived the life of a rock star helps. He is a professional hunter. He's never attracted attention with partying, doing drugs, etc.
Eric Adams has one of the most recognizable voices in metal. The range, pitch, tone, and as you pointed out, the enunciation are top-notch. Suggestions for future Manowar react videos: Black Wind, Fire, and Steel Hail and Kill The Power of Thy Sword Kill with Power Defender
You know Eric sings Opera too? Check it out. Or my favorite manowar song: Heart of steel Thank you for this one Elisabeth. Wish you a very great new year
The first to explain the name MANOWAR is MAN -O-WAR, the name goes back to a historical name for the largest wooden sailing ships ever built, the Shipp of the Lines such as the famous HMS Viktoria, these floating fortresses were feared and respected by the sailors of the 17th century they were given the nickname MAN OF WAR and in Semanic usage the OF was always pronounced like the Gaelic /Irish `O`, so MAN-O`-WAR because you saw a hostile MAN O WAR on the horizon that meant certain death ....Eric adams is one of the greatest metal stim icons who had an opera training. His folk songs are just as impressive and extremely haunting with an incredible power and feeling ... as well as one of the best operas in metal history "Phantom of the Opera" Live not even Nighwisch and taria can that top that should you listen to yourself without hesitation !!!!!
YESSSSSSS I'M SO HAPPY ELIZABETH! It's great that you're listening to the original of a cover that you've already listened to, plus warriors of the world is one of the tracks who deliver Manowar's ideas and themes the best. To really get how amazing of a vocalist Mr. Eric Adams is, you should definitely listen to Battle Hymn (another big song) and Master of the wind, which is an amazingly harmonious and soft ballad. Thx for covering the best band in the world.
So glad that you finally have been introduced to Manowar and Eric Adams. Hopefully this is the beginning and you will explore more into his voice. If I may be so bold to suggest a few songs fir you that bring out more tones that I think you will appreciate. 1. Hail and Kill 2. Black Wind, Fire and Steel 3. Battle Hymn 4. The Oath 5. Blood of the Kings 6. Each Dawn I Die 7. Gates of Valhalla 8. Mountain 9. Sign of the Hammer 10. Nessum Dorma Happy exploring 🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
Great to see you finally tackle Eric Adams - he's simply incredible. But not all Manowar songs showcase his real power. PLEASE take a look at either Blood of My Enemies, Guyana or The Power of Thy Sword! Blood of My Enemies is maybe the single most standout metal vocal work of all time, if only because Eric's chops are the only thing carrying the song.
Saw others in the comments suggesting Bridge of Death and yeah, that's up there as well. Manowar are a real mixed bag - I hope we do get to see some of their more operatic work on your channel as well as a fist-pumper like this one.
The girl with tears who can be seen when Eric sings "Die By Steel" is all what Manowar is about when you listen to their music. No matter how many times you hear them, you still become emotional and you become empowered and godlike. No other band can give the same feelings coming out of their instruments and voices. "Other bands play, Manowar kills". Great vid as always! Hail and Kill!
Hi Elizabeth, this is my first time listening to this band, and I enjoyed the performance. This song, for me, was a great introduction to the band, and Eric's range, power, and high-pitched screams were amazingly good. I hope to see more reactions in the future. Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
When I watch Mike Cotoia sing Manowar songs with Ross the Boss I'm always amused at how much effort it seems to take such a young, talented man to produce the same power as Eric does casually even past 60. And I'm not trying to hate on Mike, I think he's really talented, Eric is just hard to match because he's such a damn beast.
What I love most about Eric Adams's voice is the effortlessness he displays in performing what would be difficult passages for most singers. I like how you point out the fundamental strength and beefiness. He is very unique physiologically, and has developed excellent technique as well.
As I've been watching your channler for a while, it's like a story about "how opera singer turned into one of us metal-heads" :-D And I think that's beautiful 😀
I caught Manowar for the first time back in (I think) 1982 on a UK tour - enormous fun. They challenged an audience member to come on stage and play with them on "Real Men play On 10", and a guy from Wales stepped up. I really don't think they expected him to take over the lead guitar . . . He did leave with a signed guitar, though.
After I got out of the USMC I was going through some dark times. Manowar kept me from doing the unthinkable. I owe a lot to them and their message of always fighting on no matter what. Carry on
This song is a metal classic! The cover just dosen't capture it quite the same way.......... Now , suggestions?? Its time to step up to SAVATAGE.....you probably know them as the "Trans-siberia orchestra " great songs like " Hall of the mountian king", "The wake of Magellan " and "Edge of thorns"..others still like "sirens" from the early days!! extremely talented band!
I remember hearing their first album, 'Battle Hymns', way back when I was a teenager. It was astonishing. It still is. How do these guys look and perform as if they were 20 years younger than me?
Okay, petulant whinging first. This is not the best song to show off Eric Adam's amazing voice, and it's been less then a month since the (amazing) reaction to the Feurschwanz version. Adams is a self taught singer with operatic grandeur and barbarian soul. In his prime he possessed a four octave range, and powerful lungs that allow him to sustain screams for up to 30 seconds. Age and an aggressive singing style has diminished his voice somewhat now, but he remains a powerful and commanding frontman. Oh, and he's an avid bowhunter and licensed archery instructor The band can pull on your heartstrings as easily as they can cave in your skull (they are officially recognized as the loudest band in the world) and this song is one of their many "call to arms" anthems dedicated to their fans. Hope this is the first of many Manowar reactions because the band is a rabbit hole to Valhalla! LUIS NUNES!! YOU DID IT BROTHER! YOU BETTER BE HERE FOR THIS!!!
Elizabeth: " His voice is very, very strong". Yes. Eric "The Expressionist" Adams. Now, Guyana (The Cult Of The Damned). Someday, somehow, ok ? And I too would be very interested to hear what you think of Manowar´s version of Nessun Dorma, it really surprised me when I heard it first time, of course I knew Eric´s capabilities, but him actually singing it in front of live audience in Italy ! was a great experience to hear. Eric was and is one of my all time favorite singers, in the same league with Dio, Gillan, Dickinson, Halford, Sweet and Tate. A truly legend of a singer !
Thank you for the excellent analysis and evaluation of the classical composition of the Manovar group. It's not for nothing that for decades they have hundreds of millions of the most devoted fans all over the world, in all countries, in all cultures, religions and nationalities.
In addition of Eric’s version of “Nessun dorma” I suggest to check the video of “Battle Hymns” live at “the day the earth shook”: 3 drummers, 3 guitarists, 50 member Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra and a superb interpretation by Eric Adams.
Was just about to post about the same “Battle Hymns” live show as well. It’s my favorite Manowar song and it’s epic and makes you want to ride into battle! I believe it’s tuned down a full step compared to the studio version and I’m not sure if that’s because Eric Adams was struggling vocally to hit some of the higher notes or not although towards the end he certainly does even though they are down tuned. Also, you mentioned “Nessus Dorma” which is another good call. Elizabeth already covered Pavarotti’s version so it would be interesting to her thoughts on a metal singer’s rendition.
I have know the lead singer since the nearly 70’s. We grew up in the same small city in central, NY. He sung at my wedding in 1979. Eric Adams is his stage name and it is derived from the first names of his two sons, Eric and Adam. The lead singer has been singing in rock bands since he was in his teens. He’s now in his late 60’s.
My wife was born in Auburn. Most of her family still lives there (and the Tampa Area of Florida). We are both HUGE Manowar fans and even took a road trip from Raleigh, NC to Worchester, MA to see them play at the Palladium.
@@royhill5202 I was also born in Auburn and I still have friends and family that live there. When I was in my early twenties I was living in a house with musicians. I was immersed in the music scene in Auburn and I and my roommates used to watch Eric Adams when he was in a local rock band in his late teens and early twenties. He graduated high school with my brother in law whom he is still close friends with.
12:15 "I See fists Crossing in the Sky" The Manowarriors (the Fans) call this the "Sign of the Hammer". The audience "Hails" (greets) the band at their concerts by raising one fist in the air, and grabbing the back of the wrist with the other hand. Although some people say you raise the right hand in a fist and grab it with the left hand, even the vocalist Erica Adams does it both ways, left and right. So I don't think it matters which hand you raise.
Heavy Metal is just opera with audience participation. Nothing beats the energy of a live show. Thanks for posting! PS Manowar holds the record for loudest band at 134 dbs.
They stopped keeping world records of loudest concerts due to concerns over ear damage. Officially, Manowar holds that record, but unofficially, they have been outdone.
Btw, the Absolute power has the greatest performance ever... King of Kings he does things absolutely incredible in that show, as well as Black Wind Fire and Steel..
I have always loved the power of Man'O'War I have forgotten how good they are not heard them for along time this song is as brilliant as the songs I have heard before this one ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
One of the things I love about Manowar is it's all the metal with none of the angst. I find music often sways your current mood. It's not angry, it's not angsty... It's just metal for the sake of metal. It's cheese and it's amazing because of it.
Well, here comes a storytelling masterclass. Won't whine about other songs being better for singing technique and overall musicality, like Mountains, for range, like Call to Arms, for expresiveness and power, like Hector's Final Hour, for influence on the development of metal, like Battle Hymn or Thor the Powerhead. After the Feuerschwanz cover, there was only one choice for the first. I'll leave a litlle playlist that shall be called Manowar for beginers, since far too many seem to have missed this band. Elizabeth, thanks, and if the song isn't a video, you can listen, there's no decent video anyway... 🤘 th-cam.com/play/PLyT8COT0LziM6uymgVYlfzYy8OOiXFp73.html
These guys are the KINGS of Epic Metal. No doubt. You can hear the concert 8 miles away!! Also have the distinction as one of the loudest rock bands of all time. I don't think there is any rock bank out there with more devoted fans. Truly awesome! My faves are Defender (long version), Hail and Kill and the all time epic classic Black, Wind, Fire and Steel. I remember blowing a couple speakers playing Manowar at the proper volume. This song came on at a party once and everyone stopped talking and joined in to sing along. It was epic (like 300 people).
Some first hand Manowar lyrics btw "Rip their flesh, burn their hearts Stab them in the eyes R*** their women as they cry Kill their servants, burn their homes Till there's no blood left to spill Hail and kill".... ;). ....but it is an awesome band
I think people, especially us 50 something guys that were there enjoy your funny but informative reactions. We feel validated now like the elves we can leave 80s middle earth in peace. I worked out to this track today before I caught your video, that’s right … warriors of the world work-out!
I've always been surprised that this is such a big song for Manowar. It's a huge fan favourite, but I wouldn't put it in my top 10. But tbh, I'm not a big fan of anything after Louder Than Hell. Eric Adams however has always remained the big appeal of the band :D. I see some great song recommendations in these comments. I hope Elisabeth gets round to listening to those :).
It's amazing how this band can bring together nations the way that they do, all under the metal flag. This show was 33 years after they got started, so, although his voice has aged wonderfully and he's able to pull off awesome performances, i'd be curious to see your take on some of the younger years. Their cover of Nessun Dorma, Heart of steel, Gods of War (More of the epic feel). Happy discovery!
In college, a bunch of us used to go around saying “Other bands play, Manowar Kills!” in reference to their song ‘Kings of Metal’. They’re here for a good time, and definitely have some good songs to motivate you to get going and kick some ass.

And he is 70 years old!!! Imagine that! 5 days ago I was in one of their concerts and marveled once again at his amazing voice!!!

Not sure if it was said before: You NEED to hear him sing "Nessun Dorma"...
He prepared months for that.

I second this emotion.
I third it!!!!
Little more info. His Mother past away, and she always said, You have beautiful voice, why don't You sing something "nice". He put this on the (metal!)album to honor her.
Fourth it!
Yes, yes yes!!! Eric Adams “Nessun Dorma” is something we just need on this channel!
Guyana is wonderful!
Geoff Tate is from another planet
Dont forget Nessum Dorma Eric Adams does that very well
There are far better ManOwaR songs and songs that showcase Eric’s mighty voice, but great to see him get the Charismatic treatment. In his younger days he was incredible.
Battle Hymns would be a great one!
Anything from Triumph Of Steel. That was their peak. I would pay to watch her react to Achilles Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts.
@@mindtraveller100 Haha that video would be movie length. For me the song is a bit too long but Hector Storms the Wall gets me pumped.
Mountains off Hammer is awesome !
Epic performance 😎
the artist known as Eric Adams had a 4 octave crystal clear vocal range at 17 and had so much power that in alot of places he didn't even need a mic.
🤘🏻🍻
This is amazing! 🙌🏻
Holy shit... So Eric Adams is the Master Exploder given actual flesh!!!
Out of all the metal vocalists Eric Adams is the one who doesn't get as much praise as he deserves. He has natural talent, range, power and control and is one of the rare vocalists that can still really bring it today.
Not to mention the fact he was self taught.
I love seeing banners from countries all over the world, and everyone singing the refrain. So awesome.
You know, Eric will be 70 this year...
Find some of his songs when he was 30 or so. That's powerful.
I know.

Keeping in mind that he's self-taught and not Pavarotti, it might be interesting to have your take on Eric's version of Nessun Dorma.
Definitely second Nessun Dorma
Exactly what I thought, too! 👍
To be honest, he took some opera singing lessons, to be as good as possible (for a Non-Opera-Singer) at this performance. I think they mentioned that on one of the DVSs..
it's an amazing cover
I had Nessun Dorma played at my wedding - magical times.
Battle Hymn hell yea
He just doesn't have the range he used to. Studio Battle Hymn or Dark Avenger would be great.
Love "Defender" but it doesn't really have much singing in it ^^
I think Christopher Lee replaced Orson Welles in the late "Remastered" edition.
+1 for Heart of Steel
Nessun Dorma yepp
Don't forget the mighty 'Bridge of death'
Agreed. All of this
In his prime he was Outstanding. Was a Huge fan in my late teens and early twenties
Don't forget Defender
and Black wind, fire and steel

I hope she listens the studio version eventually, it has more voice and instrument work than the live one, Eric Adams is one of the best voices in heavy metal. 🤘
Eric Adams vocal performances on the Fighting the World and Kings of Metal albums are absolutely unreal. This particular song really doesn't even begin to show you all that he has to offer
Yes it does. This song is incredible. Its some of the best of Eric Adams.
@mvsfan3335 while it's a killer tune , it doesn't come close to showcasing all of Eric's vocal talents
Anybody want to see a 3 hour voice analysis by Elizabeth ... Then we all need to start requesting Achilles, Agony and Ecstacy. Imagine her start and rewinding a 28 minute long song.
Sign me up for that.
Suddenly I don't feel so bad about contemplating a request for Rush's "2112".
But yes, that 28 min epic would kick ass!
I'm in!
Even as a vocalist, Rhino's drum solo would still give her goosebumps as I'm sure it still does to us, many many years since we first heard it.
I friggin hate that. Stops, talks, rewinds, then stops at the same point she stopped earlier, talks some more etc etc. Listen to the whole song then talk.
GREAT band! And a fine song but you won't understand just how talented Eric Adams is by listening to this one.
Didn't they do Nessun Dorma on the same album?

Our oath never expires, neither does the metal in our veins!
I saw them in 1984 they must be 70.
"With dreams of being a king, FIRST one should be a man!"
If there ever was a life lesson in this song, it's that one. Humility is something that so few see the value of these days.
Always my favorite line from that song

Fun fact: This was one of Sir Christopher Lee's favourite bands
True story!
how could it not be lol
Sir Christopher sounds a little inspired by Manowar hen he sings metal, but if course in a bass-baritone.
That makes me curious what other bands he took inspiration from in his own music.
He was a narrator in a new version of Dark Avenger.
This song is not good enough to show the vocal talent of Eric Adams, but it can be the good beginning !
I suggest 6 songs from ManOwaR, Choose one of them:
Mountains, Dark Avenger, Gates of Valhalla, Hatred, Blood of My Enemies, Secret of Steel
Happy New Year 🎊

Yes☝️!!
Bridge of Death has to be amongst them. Love that song.
Battle hymn
Black wind, fire and steel...
And so many others
Wholeheartedly agree that Warriors of the World is NOT a good song to showcase Eric Adams or Manowar. Black Wind Fire and Steel would be my go to choice as an introduction song.
If you're listening to MANOWAR, deffinitely listen to "MASTER OF THE WIND", "HEART OF STEEL", "CROWN AND THE RING" and also.... * drum roll *... "NESUN DORMA". Yup. you read it right. Eric performs Nesun Dorma as a tribute to his mother, who was an opera singer. Give it a shot :)
she dont care, its all about mony. she just says what people want her to say, it gets more clicks
My top three wishlist for this band:
*1. Black Wind, Fire and Steel*
*2. Gates of Valhalla*
*3. Courage (just because I love cheesy power ballads - and because it's a great song :D)*
Wise choice.
Totally agree with what you wrote, and The list is mine exact.
Oh yes, David Defeis has a unique voice. I will come for you or Symphony of Steele would be awesome
Love heart of steel
I'm sure this song was picked randomly.
@@mrougelot Those are great, but i would choose something from Invictus, or The House Of Atreus, their best albuns, imho.
David DeFeis is surely the most overlooked vocalist! This guy has phenomenal range!
So well put. I totally agree.
I'm sooo excited. Been waiting for you to react to Mr. Eric Adam's powerhouse of a voice. Just wish it wasn't to this song but a good starter I guess
Was thinking the same thing lol
Agreed
Damn right
I agree 👍
Yes she needs to hear Eric's full range!
Hypocrisy, Pain
There are more bands that are influenced by Manowar than would admit it. Bathory pretty clearly borrowed equal parts of Venom and Manowar in forging what would become "viking metal" - a lot of bands would credit Bathory for that shtick, but Manowar did it first, would have been the first band most metal musicians over the decades heard doing it, and is still one of the best at it to this day.
Elisabeth, while still being impressive, you should have heard him in his prime. In the 80s, Eric Adams was breathtaking.
Yup
Fighting the world.....
Revelation, Gates of Valhalla, Mountains, Guayana, Dark Avenger etc. etc.
th-cam.com/video/W6VqpPOhsGQ/w-d-xo.html Eric in his prime. 1984...
It's even better, when you realize that the character Eric Adams is playing here is (probably) Conan. Like, the actual barbarian created by Robert E. Howard in the 1930s. Here is a quote from "The Phoenix on the Sword":
"Rush and die, dogs - I was a man before I was a king!"
Anyway, Eric Adams is my favorite singer and he has been my favorite singer since about 20 years ago, when I stumbled upon "Kings of Metal" - which, btw, is an incredible work of art.
I have been listening to them since the 80s can't believe how good they are and how big they still are.
Eric Adams has one of the most recognizable voices in metal. The range, pitch, tone, and as you pointed out, the enunciation are top-notch.

His folk songs are just as impressive and extremely haunting with an incredible power and feeling ... as well as one of the best operas in metal history "Phantom of the Opera" Live not even Nighwisch and taria can that top that should you listen to yourself without hesitation !!!!!
my favorite thing about manowar is how they're just like "let's be *_as metal_* as humanly possible" and that's their whole thing 🤘
Its not their whole thing its the reason for their existance.

I would also recommend Mountains and Blood of My Enemies. 🤘
So glad that you finally have been introduced to Manowar and Eric Adams. Hopefully this is the beginning and you will explore more into his voice. If I may be so bold to suggest a few songs fir you that bring out more tones that I think you will appreciate.

There are no fans of Manowar. We are Immortals

You cannot help but headbang the moment the drums start. What a legend tune for all metalheads.
As I've been watching your channler for a while, it's like a story about "how opera singer turned into one of us metal-heads" :-D And I think that's beautiful 😀
She's awesome! She went to Bloodstock Festival in the UK and even got interviewed there.
It had to have been at least '84 if they were playing "all men play on 10"
After I got out of the USMC I was going through some dark times. Manowar kept me from doing the unthinkable. I owe a lot to them and their message of always fighting on no matter what. Carry on
Carry on, indeed. Yeah, i´m sure they have been real lifesavers for many people around the world.
Stay safe.

15:36 The right reaction for someone hearing Eric Adams' scream.
House of Death is probably one of my favorite Eric Adams moments. Manowar gets so much hate, but you cannot deny Adams' talent. Dude is insane good.
That experience must give audience the well known, but not so often thought : Oh, shit this is good !!!

I'm a tech-house DJ, watching an opera singer react to heavy metal. Love every second, good music is good music.
You wedding was awesome then!! I am happy for you. Eric Adams... Wow :)
You know a band is special when they have Orson Welles as a vocalist in their tracks.
It's one of the nicest video I've ever watched of someone reacting to Manowar. Thank you! 😀
Man... i get chills every time i listen to this song
12:15 "I See fists Crossing in the Sky"
The Manowarriors (the Fans) call this the "Sign of the Hammer".
I was looking for this comment ... Hail!
@@rdek99 Hail and Kill!!
@@ontaka5997 hail, hail, hail and kill!!! hail and kill!!!
Heavy Metal is just opera with audience participation. Nothing beats the energy of a live show. Thanks for posting! PS Manowar holds the record for loudest band at 134 dbs.
And i think Eric Adams holds the record for the loudest voice, i´m not sure, though...
No that'll be Kiss at 136db, and Sleazy Joe at 143db in 2008
well said
.
I can't believe there are still so many people who appreciate manowar :D Song from my childhood!

Thought of you immediately when I saw this! Talk about a great start for the new year!
Some first hand Manowar lyrics btw
"Rip their flesh, burn their hearts
Stab them in the eyes
R*** their women as they cry
Kill their servants, burn their homes
Till there's no blood left to spill
Hail and kill".... ;). ....but it is an awesome band
If you haven't heard this band sing "Nessun Dorma" yet, you really should. It will give you more appreciation for his vocals.
Ok I gotta say it, I love this woman. I just stare at her to see her smiles and wide eye reaction. Love it
Record label: "So... how macho do you want it?"
Manowar: "Yes."
He is great, you have to hear Battle Hymn, one of the best vocals ever.
I think people, especially us 50 something guys that were there enjoy your funny but informative reactions. We feel validated now like the elves we can leave 80s middle earth in peace.
I worked out to this track today before I caught your video, that’s right … warriors of the world work-out!
And then I saw what you were wearing. Awesome
Eric Adams is easily one of the best technical singers in metal.
If you really want to hear the full potential of Eric Adams voice, you should definitely check out Gates Of Valhalla and Kingdom Come.
100% agreed!!!!
@Atman Gotango yeah, I think you're right. Personally I'd still prefer 'Metal Warriors'. I mean, when that 'every one of us has heard the call!' :D.
