Wife and I just installed ours on the 23 JLU, 35" Mickey Thompson with Battle Born Wheels(105lbs). The alignment was tedious just to get it perfect. I would recommend Rusty's, very happy with it.
Thank you for taking the time to make a great install video, this definitely saved me some time. I should have taken your lead on the foam for the end panel vs drilling and installing the nutserts. After unbolting the assembly one of the holes was off, took me an extra hour to get it all lined up again. Really nice tire rack though, way to go Rusty's and thank you Shocker Racing for making the install video.
I've had my Rusty's tailgate tire carrier for just over a year and had zero issues since installing it. One thing I would add is that I put very thin rubber between this assembly and the tailgate. Adds a quieter sound to it when closing and now all of the unpainted areas are covered by the rubber. Great video and looks like you covered all of the details.
@Mike Thompson there are three sections of rubber. I cut them out and them marked the rubber for the holes and cut the holes out using a piece of sharpened tubing as a hole punch. I lightly taped the rubber pieces onto the assembly to keep it aligned while assembling. Tape was pulled out before bolts were tightened.
For 90% of all jk tailgates the stock hinge holes elongate where the hinge pins go through .. this happens over time no matter what size tire mounted but wear accelerates with heavier tires .. replace both hinges either with OEM or after market .. i have an '07 changed both this year no more bang or gate bounce
Nice video I’ve been looking hard for the last year and a half for a spare tire carrier that won’t rattle. I’m running a 37x13.50 setup. I had Smitty built HD tire carrier on but it didn’t seem like the hinge bolts would ever get tight had a lot of slop in them every time I hit a bump on the road sounded like my tailgate was coming off. What are the hinge bolts like are they threw bolts or bushings also would like a picture of the third brake light on in the wheel
Does the 35” tires sit on top of your rear bumper with the new carrier. Or does it have enough clearance? I think mine is mounted too high and I’m getting a lot of wobbling when I’m on the road
I think it looks nicer and is actually beefier than the Evo carrier. One of our good friends got the Evo one and was shocked at how much extra reinforcement there is on the Rustys carrier, plus some of his hardware started to show surface rust really quickly.
I wouldn't call this an install video as much as a "look what I did" video. There was no instruction other than "we removed the tail light and had to adjust the hinge after we installers it.". I usually like your videos, but this one was lacking content with regards to the actual install. I have done this myself and know what it entails.
Use a heat gun when removing the stickers covering the inside hinges. They come off easy and clean then goes back on just as easy.

Awesome man! Always glad to help!

What did you use, a whole thin sheet of rubber and cut to the same shape then drill holes for the bolts?

@@rolliehunt5173 Thank you!
@Mike Thompson you're welcome! If you finesse the rubber pieces just right it's almost impossible to tell it's there.

Wow man we never got that shot out😢we watched the video waiting and nothing but it’s ok. We still love you guys😭 cool video.
Lol! Sorry about that, this is an old video we filmed months ago and just put it up while we are road tripping on vacation.... stay tuned! 😜
Looks heavy duty, nice video!🤙
Thank you Brian!
Great install! Was that the rattle we were hearing last time at the dunes?
Thanks! No, I had this carrier on before then. I believe it’s something with the rear fender liner.

I noticed there is no primer behind those hinges. Mine started rusting and turns out jeep has a recall I believe so might want to check that out
I just ordered one 30 minutes ago. Can your friends swing out to CO to help me install mine too? :D
😂 they are on their way!

We set mine to sit up just a little above the bumper, so it doesn’t touch.
how do you like this carrier vs the evo carrier?

@@shockerracing thank you, ordered the Rusty's one today!
So a year later....any rattles?
We never had rattles once we got it fully dialed in. Then we removed it from that Jeep and moved it over to our Mojito 392 and it’s still perfect!
I have had mine almost a year and the only bad thing is it squeaks a bit when you open and close it.
@@rosco1883 I did spray a little lube in there a while back and any squeaking went away.

Thank you, I appreciate the honesty. It was a challenging install and also hard to film!
Let me tell you about “Rusty’s” it all rusts!!! Bad!
I’m over 3 years with this tire carrier and not a single rust spot
