Brought back memories of going bush in my 40 series back in the early 80s. Roads like the Tanami were tough then, but so were the vehicles. Used to use Aussi made Olympic Bushranger tyres. Who remembers those?

I grew up billiluna all 70's, in and out to hc, over and back to Alice, mostly just Mum and sister, only swag , 44 fuel and bit of a Tucker box.
Bruce and Jacqui at rabbit flat was always a fun stay for us kids.
Place you camp out of hc is near where dad had one of several gold leases, very rich spot, I could tell you some good gold nugget stories, lots of other interesting stories about happenings and events that happened back in the day, it's was a good time of remembrance watching your journey
    Regards

we find a portable induction great, you can move it to avoid the weather and food spatter ( and level it up easier). Then use it in the kitchen when we get home. the new build will be interesting to see.

Clearview mirrors in the 40s would be nice to have. It's a long 40 and the extendable, foldable and rugged side mirrors would be a nice upgrade for the old gal. There's nothing better than a classic 4wd with a fair number of modern mods.

The driving and scenery of the Tamari Rd and outback is beautiful. I love all your sunset captured. Wolf Creek Crater is one of the places we have to skip. It was tol far for us to go when we were in Kununurra. Glad to see the crater from your vid and yeh the wind, we are experiencing it now. It's crazy, it has been windy non-stop each day for us. P.S have u guys watch the movie Wolf Creek? I have 🤣

  • @HammerRocks

I'd like to do the Tanami Road, like you've done from Halls Creek to Alice Springs. But my issue is the lack of range. I have an 80 Series LandCruiser petrol. And it guzzles fuel like a Saturn V rocket. Its tarmac fuel consumption is 18-20L/100km. Off-road is even worse (approx 30% (gravel) to 50% (sand/dunes/beach) more - 26-30L/100km). At its least efficient fuel figures, giving me an effective off-road range from its 145L dual OEM tanks of around 485kms. Even if I get an aftermarket long range tank, which increases my total onboard fuel to 258L, that is still only 860kms off-road range. And I can't carry more than 2 x 20L jerry cans.

Australian deserts are often deceptively green and wooded, like someplace you could profitably grow wheat and olive trees....except you can't. One can only imagine the frustrations of early European settlers in this 'new world' where the scenery lied to them.

Oh spare me....I travelled the Tanami in 1983 in a Series 2A Landrover during an Army training exercise that had us travel from Darwin, via Kununurra, the Tanami, Alice, the Oodnadatta Track and back to Sydney. None of the comforts you have.
