I don't know how long you held out for a good sale or what kind of people you had talking to you, But you should have held out longer on selling the bike. Yeah I'm sure you want to get it sold but that bike in that condition is worth over $7,000. You sold it for just for not too much more than the dealership trade in value for that bike. You did such a great build and you didn't make a mistake on your purchases or anything. You did a great job everywhere. Where you would want to improve is your salesmanship and finding a true market value for what you have and for what you did. It's basically a brand new bike now with not many miles on it.
To make money it’s a bad idea, but to build a bike to keep or for a track bike, it’s not bad because you can do it little by little over time and build it exactly how you want.
For sure, I have a business mind and try to keep it down to earth when it comes to finances, so showing the summary of costs was something I was happy to do 👍
Fantastic series. Watched from start to finish over the last 2 days. I have a 2006 R1 I won at auction due to be delivered, but (hopefully) with some relatively light front end damage. It’s a ‘Cat N’ in the UK so should be non-structural damage. Will take a look through your channel for your other content.
Yeah man. I just rebuilt an 05. I even threw carbon on the swingarm/frame/ram air lol. And then I hit a deer on the highway. Lol. Its been rebuilt again. Funny how the swingarms are so cheap, for some reason. I was looking at them also recently. Mines got a nasty gouge from the previous owner. Couldn't believe how cheap they go for. Weird? But, yea... I mean, if your only desire is to ride and nothing else and you want to be in a good financial position, then sure, get a moderately wrecked bike, fix anything mechanical, run it as a street fighter. Once you try to bring it back to oem standards (or close enough...) it gets expensive, penny by penny... slowly... and it really adds up. Its so easy to buy a bike at a "good deal" and spend way more than if you bought an immaculate model kept in perfect condition by a seller asking a high price for it's age. But you indeed are paying for the project... you are paying for a future return of pride when its done and unique to you, and to learn a lot along the way.
Hmm. I did ask what you were thinking when you started on that bike. I thought you were going to keep it, not sell it on. You rebuilt it well though, well done.
Thank you for explaining all the expenses and the fact that it only costs money! I hope to see more projects coming and hopefully those will actually earn you money. If I may ask, do you make money with these videos on TH-cam? And if so, did you still lose money on this project?
I’m glad it’s helpful, because everything I’ve got in those vids TH-cam brings pocket change for now, I need to have millions of views every month to make a few thousands Right now, it’s $20 here and there...
You did a great job with that bike.... You overpay.... But I understand you make contacts. TH-cam?.. I enjoy the whole process. Keep up the good work..
I found a 2007 R1 for sale that was bought from a salvage auction. Car fax shows it was in a collision. Vin comes back as a junk vehicle. It runs and is rideable but the swing are is damaged. Will I be able to get this a title if I rebuild it ?
Sorting out a crash victim can work out the same as buying an uncrashed one , saving grace is you dont have to pay for it all at once , however if theres been an insurance claim against it , it can come back to haunt you . Thats the voice of bitter experience talking.
@@R-Will I've bought a few crash victims .. last was a bmw r1200s ..I gave a thousand pounds for it ...only light panel and fairing supports and usually sticky out bits ... by the time I had bought the bits and fitted them ...then got the bike painted etc it worked out at the same sort of cash that would have bought me an un crashed one to start with .. so if its not common and parts are hard to get rebuilding a crashed bike may not be the bargain you think it is.... one bent bit more and I would have seriously been on the negative side cost wise .. that's all i'm saying ..good luck with your project though.
Wrecked bikes are for parts only. You should never waste time/money to fix one up. BUT you learned a lot from doing that project. And you can't put a price on that.
@@TristanDurandBuilds sport bikes are NOT worth the price to rebuild .... if you have time to wait one will come by for a third of that....part of the wait is finding it!!

Thoroughly enjoyed these! Thanks Tristan.

Great video. But iam eagerly waiting for the café racer built
Oh yeah I gotta get back to this one 🔧
Well done Tristan!! great vids! sorry you lost money, you win some, you loose some. Greeting from Sydney.

On the bright side you got killer footage of it.

On top of the welding and painting skills I acquired 👍

If your state allows it yes.
That’s exactly what I did 🔧
Dope Info . Thanks 🙏🏽
Are you still flipping motorcycles from copart?
Great video, thank you 👍🏻
Good vid! Lessons learned.
Step by step, learning what works and what doesn’t ✌️
Speedo cluster price ? GR8 Job
Should of kept the bike bro !! It's a no brainer😂
Great project but would never do it for no profit. Guess you can't put a price on what you have learned. Keep it up.
I understand that, I also didn’t really expect that to be the case, but I’m glad to share my experiences in here 👍
If it's $5000 I wish I could know earlier I would have buy it.

I would have to agree on that, the monetary value is not there when rebuilding, I didn’t know, now I do 💸
Wow, that's way too expensive!
What is too expensive ?
Good job appreciate the info but if it was insured I probably would’ve reported stolen 😂
Well, I bought it wrecked already

But your design is very rare, maybe the only one
It’s a very unique bike indeed 😅
Oh man, this build kinda bit you in the butt... but it is a beautiful bike :)
It did, but it’s new owner loves it, I learned my lesson, desperate bikes are parts bikes, not meant to be fully rebuilt 🔧
7000$ is just a used one..... but, anyway nice to save another one.
