DON'T FINANCE A CAR - BE A CERTI DRIVER WITH A CHEAP SAXO
    #BAGUETTE #CLASS #SENDIT
    Saxo Info
The Citroën Saxo was a supermini produced by the French manufacturer Citroën from 1996 to 2004. It was sold in Japan as the Citroën Chanson, because Honda had registered the "Saxo" name.[2] As a badge engineered variant of the Peugeot 106 (which itself was a development of the Citroën AX), the major difference being interiors and body panels. Production ended in 2004, when it was replaced with the Citroën C2 and Citroën C3.
All engines were from the PSA TU engine series that powered the Peugeot 205 from 1988 and the Citroën AX, and had their roots before that with the OHC PSA X engine various other PSA cars used, such as the Citroën Visa, Peugeot 104 and early Peugeot 205. The range included five petrol engines and one diesel engine, all naturally aspirated.
Although the quoted power outputs are low in comparison to modern small hatchbacks, or even to other hatchbacks of the time, the kerb weight was generally very low, with even the range-topping VTS having a kerb weight of just 935 kg (2,061 lb), with other smaller engine models (except the diesel) being around 100 kg lighter than this.
This meant a high power to weight ratio resulting in decent acceleration and made the car suitable for city driving. Aside from the VTS which had 16 valves, all engines were the older SOHC units which meant relatively low city MPG figures.
The real world consumption between the smaller engines and the nippy 1.4i Westcoast/Furio variant was hardly noticeable, however the insurance premiums were. The early 1.0i was quite under powered, with the 1.1i being considered much better, since it was nearly 200cc larger and had roughly 30% more torque.
There were three sport models of the Saxo:
The Westcoast, later replaced by the Furio which featured a 1.4I 8V 55 kW (75 hp) engine with a top speed of 175 km/h (109 mph), and a 0-62.5 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 11.2 seconds.
    The VTR MK1 (1997-1999) featured a fuel injected, 1.6-liter 8-valve 66 kW (90 hp) engine with a top speed of 187 km/h (116 mph) and a 0-62.5 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 10.0 seconds. The VTR MK2 (1999-2003) featured a 1.6I 8V 72 kW (98 hp) engine with a top speed of 193 km/h (120 mph) and a 0-62.5 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 9.4 seconds.
The VTS 16V featured a 1.6I 88 kW (120 hp) engine with a top speed of 205 km/h (127 mph), and a 0 to 60 mph time of 7.8 seconds. The VTS MK1 (1997-1999) and MK2 (1999-2003) shared similar performance, although the MK2 was slightly slower due to it being marginally heavier.
These models included 247 mm (9.7 in) vented front brake discs, with the VTR and VTS also having rear brake discs (solid 247 mm (9.7 in) discs). Also, a different style of control arms and struts was used for the suspension. The VTS had a 22 mm (0.9 in) master brake cylinder, and the VTR and Westcoast/Furio had a 19 mm (0.7 in).

I bought one direct outta Citroen finance who ran them through Mannheim auctions Haydock in the early 0’ies , turned out the imbercile who bought it new crashed it and didn’t like the bright amber colour west coast so painted it t(e silver over grey which they came as also so I ended up with a 2.5 year old colour changed car that had been crashed yet was hpi clear .
Came with only a v5 so I contacted the Citroen dealer on the plates who had a full history for it so I bought a book pack and they stamped it so now I had a FCMDSH so I ebayed it and sold it to a nurse who needed a car .
Them were the days when people didn’t hpi cars otherwise it showed as colour changed which in my mind I should of known about and would of looked harder at it m the idiot who owned it must of spent a fortune then lost it back to Citroen .
Anyway that’s my experience of the free insurance citroen Saxos

@@Curiosity_Carsyeah kinda, for the previous gen. Only diff is that the saxi had much more potential than the Corsa limited and better insurance prices for the drivers of that era. These kind of cars are a thing of the past for the average young driver. It's all about eco friendly 3 pots nowadays for most young drivers ( 1ltr fiesta ecoboost etc) I'd take the NA 1.6 dohc saxo anyday. Then we had Corsa gsi and the 1.8. The 106 quicksilver and GTi. Clio sports and the 172/182. Being a young driver in the early to late 2000s was a time to be alive 😢 not even starting on the Honda's or Nissans either. What a time

This was my first car, a VTR though. Eventually the tap pits went (that’s what was told to me) and it worked out cheaper to put a VTS lump in it than to replace the parts that went wrong. Of course I don’t what any sensible person would do…… stuck the VTS lump in it. The thing was a beast!! I remember my mechanic calling up telling me it was done and saying “be careful mate, this thing torque steers all over the place”. It was all good until someone crashed into the side of me and I sold the car for £250 because I was desperate for cash and didn’t want the insurance looking at my engine. Well you live and learn lol

For the time these were decent cars for a young driver. That's why there's not many left now 😂😂 these cars weren't even seen as "too wild for young drivers" so we're cheap to run. Nowadays you don't get cars like this available. It's all boring 1ltr 3 pots or expensive gtis or s3s etc. That's why the VW pd engine is still popular now. It's a good crossover of the good days + can still perform in this era.

At 19, I bought a brand new mango coloured saxo westcoast. 2 years free insurance! Would have saved me a fortune if I hadn't lost me licence within about 6 months! 😂 16 inch tsw venoms, on its arse, with koni's wound up solid it would still scrape like fuck! Maxi spoiler, dtm upswept rear splitter. Green induction kit, decat and 3 inch magnex back. Full vts interior. Boot full of music. The 90's were hilarious! I've had loads of cars but even with sod all power it would out-handle pretty much anything. Might have had something to do with my 19 year old John esque driving too tho! 🤔

Saxos rock! Brakes feel like that probably cos master cylinder on passenger side. 406 v6 coupe the calipers come from feels the same. Have to stand on pedal but the brakes are there when u do! Get used to it. Some modern cars are far too over servo'd. Nice wee car tho. Brilliant fun and cracking sounding! Owned a few vt's and still have a vts ax. ❤️ em! Keep er lit!!😁

Glad time is giving Renault Sports and sporty PSAs their flowers, Hondas need an LSD to compare to this magnificent handling... and still...

Very typical choice for a Portuguese young man :) Saxo's and 106's were amongst the most popular "fast" cars for young Portuguese drivers 15-20 years ago, EG civics and CRX's were very popular as well. The trend has shifted for turbo diesel VAG cars, due to higher MPG and cheaper to make horsepower!

Take me back, had a 1998 106 GTi around 2000 with a new engine from Peugeot as last one cracked due to not having enough coolant in during winter with 1st owner, ended up going the the ecosse peugeot supercharger route, was a bit too much to handle at 250+ with the standard 14" alloy etc lol, was a great wee car though, always preferred the 106 GTi over the Saxo VTR as it had a tiny bit more luxury leather/sound deadening wise, even though basically the same car lol.
