Kishi really nailed it with first 80 episodes... Good world building... This arc really showed what Hokages really are... Because I always thought 3rd Hokage was like an older president... But he turned out to be an absolute badass

Truly one of first biggest fights that never gets old. But imagine if Orochimaru managed to summon Fourth Hokage or if Hashirama was able to go all out here.
If Hashirama was to be reanimated so strong that he could go all out,then that means he won't,becuase he will simply break the reanimation jutsu instead
For me, this is still one of the best fights in the history of anime. The way Hiruzen, being old with a small amount of chakra and under the pressure of having to fight against his teachers and student, is just incredible. Hiruzen didn't just perfectly control and expend his chakra throughout the fight, switching from ninjutsu to taijutsu, from taijutsu to kinjutsu. He also defeated all three of them combined. In his youth, he would definitely be able to fight back against the first two Hokages even if they had all their strength.
People don't respect sarutobi man. Prime Hiruzen wins against prime Tobirama. He surpassed Tobirama and is so far above him she shares the title of " God of Shinobi" along side Hashirama, and he is only outclasses by Hashirama due to obvious reasons( sage mode and you know...). They just hate on him because they don't understand the situation with Naruto's upbringing.

Edo tensei doesn't cost much chakra at the time of use in battle actually since the chakra is used way earlier when the jutsu is set up in advance. It's kinda a broken ability. He summoned them likely weeks ago and just had them on standby along with the mind control jutsu he implanted in them.. It probably cost him no less than the amount of chakra required to summon a few shuriken. And for kage level shinobi that's nothing.
It was epic as hell but lowkey this fight lasted a cool two months since it's spaced out over nine episodes that were released weekly. Was a nightmare waiting for it to finally be over.

I know many are shitting on old man Sarutobi but I had to admit,even though he wasn't my favourite character,I still cried on his death. First time since Zabuza and Haku. He put goddamned decent fight against Orochimaru who was now stronger than he ever was and against his former master and his big brother and they are basically legends. And yes,I know they weren't at their full power, otherwise if they were, Hashirama and then later on, Tobirama would break out of the seal and would most definitely help the village. And the fact, that even after all these years,even after he fought Orochimaru and made his mind about killing him,in his last moment,he still saw him as a child he once was. More innocent looking and definitely less creepy. He may not have done everything he could to be there for Naruto,but at the same time he did. I know many are going to deny this,but it was because of him that Naruto is still alive. Hiruzen couldn't protect Naruto from hate of the villagers and that is yet understandable because even he can't change people's opinions about someone else,but I bet he protected Naruto number of times against enemy ninja and Danzo. Kakashi of course also had play in protecting him but if it was not for Hiruzen,Danzo could do some shit which would led baby Naruto right away to Akatsuki hands and he would have been killed eventually because becoming jinchuuriki since literally being born and then relatively fast as that, being stripped of tailed beast inside him,is more than Naruto's baby body could survive. And he already survived much. His upbringing was much more intense than Sasuke's.
Well, let's keep in mind that at this point in the series, Hashirama and Tobirama weren't God-level characters. This was during a time before the power scaling had to increase (because it's a shonen series and that's just how it is) and before more lore was explained in the series. At this point, Hashirama and Tobirama WERE top tier AND fighting at top tier. So with that perspective, you have these two former Kage, plus a Sannin, fighting Old Man Sarutobi... and he's holding his own against all three of them. It's a fight like this that makes me want to see what Sarutobi in his prime was capable of doing.
Imagine only barely beating a severely weakened old man, after summoning two Senju Hokage with a technique that grants immortality. While Kage level yourself. Only for you to realize he was holding back for practically the entire fight. Oof. Hiruzen was OP. If not far too kind for his own good.
This battle would definitely have been over if the hokages had been revived closer to their power AND they had their personalities (although they wouldn't have attacked Hiruzen then, but assuming they did) , because one of Tobirama's biggest strength was his amazing battle strategy
I always liked this fight, but the power level doesn't make sense like the manga does, and this is in every high budget fight from Naruto, Sasuke vs Orochimaru, Madara vs Shinobi Alliance, they add somethigs in these anime fights that destroy the Power Scale.
Keep in mind, the power scale wasn't much of a thing at this time. As the series progressed, they had to constantly increase the showcase of power. This particular fight was intended in every way to be a showcase of the full extent of three Kage + one Sannin in combat. It wasn't until much later when more lore was introduced and legend was built up when Kishimoto messed with the power scaling.

But if he wants help and can summon, he should do that IMMEDIATELY and not one just one creature, also clones and deception should be a staple - anything that buys space and time - he could also focus on collapsing the buinding to gain more space and help. But being alone is not inherently a disadvantage, they risk to crush themselves with their own attacks, is hard to move without stumbling on each other, with little room to use you can line them up and hitting them all together reversing the number advantage. It's not simply "1 vs 3" but what is the nature of the fight? What advantages and disadvantages an approach brings.

orochimaru was literally brought down by his own arrogance and insanity,he could've killed sarutobi the whole fight but chose to test his best 2 reanimations and just watch hiruzen fight,if he just went 3v1 from the start it's over,also when tobirama activates infinite darkness he could've also killed him before he activated the reaper death seal,having that would have made no sense for orochimaru's character and for the plot,hell orochimaru could've killed sarutobi the minute he jumped with him while having a kunai to his throat,think about something before insulting such a good series.
Edo tensei is a broken jutsu. In theory, if a living body is sacrificed to summon the soul of a dead shinobi, then logically when the body is damaged, the jutsu will also be canceled automatically. Because summoning jutsu, it is only limited to space-time jutsu, it does not have instant advantages which include unlimited chakra abilities and an indestructible body. If you use the same logic, the ninja shinobi animals should also be as indestructible as Edo tensei subjects. But yeah, this might be a mistake that Masashi Kishimoto deliberately made to make Naruto's story more interesting.
This was peak Naruto for me. They set this up to show what top tier was. It's a shame that the powerscaling got so crazy that any relevant character in the end of Shippuden would easily body all three of these characters.
