I have tried exactly these steps repeatedly in update 3.13, but the chat never disappears from my screen, even briefly. What could have changed? - Update: learned by accident/experiment today that even though the Options menu in my case is set to default F12 to toggle chat it only works for me if I use the combination Left Alt + F12. Weird!

F12 doesn't seem to clear global and I still see it after disabling visor

F12 definitely still clears global chat from the visor. Someone else in the comments suggested to try ALT+F12 as some configurations may have changed.
