  • Airbus has successfully performed the first fully automatic vision-based take-off using an Airbus Family test aircraft at Toulouse-Blagnac airport. The test crew comprising of two pilots, two flight test engineers and a test flight engineer took off initially at around 10h15 on 18 December and conducted a total of 8 take-offs over a period of four and a half hours.

@Ale Mazza Well, Airbus has developed an algorithm for taxi and takeoff of the aircraft. This means greater automation, but surely there will always be two crew in the cockpit. There are decisions that can only be taken by a commander or a co-pilot, or both by mutual agreement, after consideration of the situation that so requires. I do not believe in unemployment, but in a greater human capacity to complete air travel.

I'm not a pilot nor do I have any friends or relatives that are pilots, but I put myself in their shoes and I imagine what must be like to spend like 100k euros/dollars on your pilot license just to then lose your job because people like you want to save a few bucks. You wouldn't speak like this if it were your job that were at stake. I'd rather pay a bit more and know someone is in charge of the plane just in case the flying computers go crazy (which has already happened).

So they aren’t just keeping there for nothing. Airline operations are more complicated than just getting the plane from A to B?

Aloin, I myself am a climate change activist, and an aviation enthusiast. Climate change is definitely the biggest challenge that us humans should face, and it definitely needs to have drastic action taken because of it. This doesn’t mean all airplanes should be destroyed though, although airplanes do cause a lot of pollution there is a better way. Have you seen this video?
      th-cam.com/video/FjsKq5Bf1Dk/w-d-xo.html
Not just that, new airplanes are becoming ridiculously more fuel efficient. In my opinion we should take measures that require certain fuel efficiency levels from airlines and manufacturers. This is a huge issue, it needs to be taken care of but airplane technology connects people. In my opinion, because of how fast the technology is changing it’s doing more good than harm.

This takeoff isn’t fully auto Airbus just removed the pulling back on the yoke. The speed set for rotation has to be programmed into the system along with other parameters. Even if this system is implemented in aircraft it will probably be like the auto-land feature where it is rarely ever used.

A human should not have to fight AI for control of anything! Some of these commenters saying how pilotless planes is so far in the future... I wouldn’t say that! You all see that Garmin has developed a self-landing emergency system for small planes; that is, if a pilot becomes disabled or whatever, all somebody has to do is push a button and the plane will look for the nearest airport, alert ATC, and go in for a landing on its OWN! How long before this reaches the big guys? Maybe not pilotless commercial airlines, but they may whittle it down to one sole pilot managing AI functions... I guess humans can always be aircraft mechanics...

ATTOL can be used during low visibility conditions. It's a same thing goes to autoland. Autoland use in low visibility conditions
With ATTOL, it can increase safety level. Autopilot like ATTOL can decreased workload only but pilots always need to monitor it because the pilot programme the autopilot. Don't think that we have the automatic take off, we don't have pilots in the future. Autopilot is not the thing that we can hope, but we can use it, programme it and monitor.

I’m actually having enough explaining why pilots aren’t going to be replaced by 2030 (it is actually impossible simply because even if an automated airliner came out tomorrow and was certified it would take 30-50 years for all crewed airliners to be retired and replaced)
Also if you take flight lessons someday you will actually understand how much human input is needed even for the most automated airliners.
So aspiring pilots don’t freak out,
There will still be a job for you in 2030- 2050- 2060 etc. We aren’t at pilotless flight yet
We might get to single cockpit by 2060 basically by the time most people my age will be retiring.
This is another tool to help pilots and it’s not even certified yet, it’s a test flight.
Airbus has released statements and videos with concept aircraft and plans where they state that there will still be at least one pilot and this is for concept aircraft in 2050.
So people saying planes will fly themselves and pilots don’t don’t do anything. Start flying planes and then you will understand what it’s actually like to fly and how much work goes into it.
Aspiring pilots don’t worry go for it it’s still a great time to be a pilot.
I would like to add that even trains aren’t automated. There are still trains that have an engineer and a conductor in the cab trains are the easiest mode of transportation to automate.
Pilots will be around for a while
To be honest this could have been done a while ago, it’s probably harder to automate a landing than it is a takeoff so this doesn’t even make much of a difference. And 99% of landings are manual landings so the same will probably be of takeoffs.
    I will also add
    Cool technology

    • @MrDevinmynett
      @MrDevinmynett 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

However, it will happen and sadly many jobs will go. The trucking industry i the same and also Rolls Royce is working in automated ship systems tat will travel the ocean without staff, save engineers. It is sad and the word is going to have a massive problem with unemployment unless each country has something like a universal basic income.

    • @vagasint.4345
      @vagasint.4345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

devin mynett I am not saying it will never happen
No job will last forever. Even programmers will be replaced by whatever self writing algorithm software they have out there. But for the airline industry it’s won’t be for a while. I will mention about the Rolls Royce ship along with a few other technologies like pilotless planes.
Boeing, Rolls Royce and whatnot have said their autonomous cargo ship or plane would be ready by...
2018.... 2019.... now they say 2020... and I hate to say it but those projects right now are just scams because they keep pushing back the project, collecting money and there still isn’t even a prototype of this Rolls Royce ship.
Right now full autonomy is like the flying car it’s always right around the corner but they never do it even for stuff as simple as trains. I mean they have a few automated metros, People movers and whatnot but most trains especially on larger open networks are not automated and are staffed with at least one person driving it even in Europe where they have positive train control. As for the trucking industry, they have said drivers won’t be replaced (I know they could be lying to quell fears ) heck, the autonomous trucks and buses they have designed and concepts they have created still have cabs and steering wheels which means they still have the intention of people being in the cab doing something that involves controlling the trucks.
So yes eventually all jobs will be automated (unless we wipe ourselves out or something lol) but it’s not in the next 10 years now like what many doom and gloom and tech advocates are claiming whenever a computer learns how to flip a new switch.

Hey buddy ! I am 16 years old and I want to be a pilot. until I graduate I will probably be 23 years old, that will be in 2027. until I get a job it will be 2030. do you advise me to continue in this career?

    • @vagasint.4345
      @vagasint.4345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lucas Machado yes
I definitely advise it. I am actually not that old myself and am in College to be an airline pilot
My parents are both airline pilots right now so they can see how automation “creeps into the cockpit”
And honestly you will be able to get hired and finish your career. And watch other pilots continue after you
Right now they are hiring like crazy and it’s going to peak in 2030 when most pilots are going to retire.
Right now when I choose my regional I will get a signup bonus, and I will have a job before I graduate from College.
Everyone is saying there is a huge demand and it will continue to grow.
EVEN BOEING IS SAYING THEY WILL NEED HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PILOTS.
And I will note that Boeing never said “there will be a need for 687 000 pilots and we have the solution for it”
Nope they flat out said there will be a need for 687 000 pilots.
If you go online and research aircraft automation you will find dozens of articles (I have done this) explaining that pilots will disappear by 2025 (which as I said earlier isn’t even possible) and pilots are just there to do stuff during emergencies. But you have to realize is that 98% have no idea what happens behind those cockpit doors!
No idea whatsoever. Did you know there are people who think the autopilot can be programmed from the control tower in the case of pilot incapacitation?! It can’t it’s not possible.
The amount of misinformation out there is insane and when you start taking flight lessons you will see that there is a lot of human input and that the autopilot really only does simple tasks.
My parents always come home with many stories of stuff that happened with the autopilot or times they had to intervene. Pilots hand fly more than it appears believe and have a lot more control over their airplane than people make it seem.
Also look up dual engine failure on an Airbus A350 (arguably the most automated plane in the world). Look how busy the cockpit is and the autopilot is flying the plane! Can you imagine how much harder it would be if there wasn’t an autopilot! It really is just a tool and not a replacement. Especially in even the most gut wrenching emergencies.
Long story short if you want to do it
GO FOR IT you will have a full career they need pilots and they will for a while.
Edit: I will add it is a lot of tough work, early mornings, constant studying and A LOT of money to get there but in the end it it’s worth it!

aviation for live it will happens eventually
Same way every job will be automated eventually and It will probably be illegal to make another human being work. But the 30s isn’t possible and I will explain why
Let’s say tomorrow there is an airplane created and it is 100% automated
No cockpit no pilots on the ground.
The earliest pilots would be phased out (assuming all aircraft orders are cancelled) would be 2050-2070 because airliners have a lifespan of about 30-50 years. And they are a big expense airlines won’t just get rid of a new airliner.
Not only that but first we will go to single pilot airliners. Which haven’t even been developed
Boeing announced the 797 will be a two pilot aircraft when it is built. Which means by 2030 planes will still have 2 pilots.
Airbus’ next big plane should be announced by 2030 and their next big leap will be hybrid (see bird of prey concept)
All concept aircraft right now are planned to have cockpits and pilots. At least until 2050.
So no it is not possible for pilots to disappear by 2030.
There are still many things pilots do even in the most automated airplanes.

I am not against automation. I’m just being realistic automated trucks, automated planes, trains doctors and all that stuff needs to be tested, certified with regulations as stringent if not more than humans and someone has to monitor the technology because as far as I know NO ONE, not even NASA or the Pentagon has created a computer that never fails/ crashes/ has errors or that can’t be hacked.
I don’t mind having automated planes someday. I think it would be great for the industry but we can’t have rushed designs that got through super loose regulations or we will get many scenarios where automation crashes a plane that could have been saved had their been a human on board.
I think the furthest we will get in t foreseeable future for pilots is. A single pilot airliner that can taxi takeoff land automatically and there will be a human to take over if the computer fails.
This is why I believe this.
There haven’t been many automated train crashes but in Japan and at KMIA there were crashes caused because the train simply didn’t stop or because the train went in the wrong direction.
Those incidents could have been prevented had their been a human on board simply to push a stop button.
On an airliner a plane taking off in the wrong direction or landing on the wrong runway can lead to a bit more issues than 15 injured people and a cracked wall.
After a while when they create computers that rarely ever fail and that are nearly unhackable I think planes will be automated and there will be places on the ground with pilots that can take over from the ground in case something extraordinary happens.
Eventually planes just like everything else will be completely automated
There is my long ass answer about my vision of the future of flight and why I won’t just vote for Andrew Yang because he says freedom dividend

Does this means no pilots in the future? How about aspiring pilots today?

No, don't worry this technology will not come untill 2040. But pilot workload will reduce, AI does 70% of flying while 30% may be done by manual controls. And the button sytems will be lot simpler .
