Beluga XL is entirely dedicated to transporting airplane parts). So yeah...the older Beluga planes are gonna become freighter aircrafts

@@matthewbaynham6286 The A380 is already extremely heavy, adding the extra cargo needs would ad a good 1,000 pounds for electronics for a large cargo door and other things like that, then the cargo that it would be carrying ads like 5,000 pounds and it would need a very large runway and little fuel to be able to fly long routes. That’s why the A380 F never happened

Many things stay the same though, The Beluga Whale Shape, The large cargo capacity and it being an Airbus Transporter. The new beluga today does have a mouth around the cockpit and winglets, as it is an A330-743l, and the predecessor was an A300-600ST. The beluga is a beautiful aircraft and will stay in the sky for years to come.
Not really. What were they meant to do? Build their own version? The guppy planes were needed for the a300 which means since it hadn’t existed yet the a300 wouldn’t be bringing in money that they could use to build their own. It’s not crazy at all. Very sensible. Also they were mainly from NASA so it’s not as if they bought them from Boeing
If I was designing that thing I’d just make the whole body bigger rather than grafting a big lump on top of a small body, that the logical thing to do really 👌

Delivery of XL1 means Airbus now has all Belugas in service. To my understanding the XL1 was held back for additional certification and tests, but now the program is finished and the XL1 could be delivered to it's actual purpose.
Don't worry it's just the last delivery. Airbus only needs 6 of these aircrafts to their job. And don't forget, the older Beluga STs are still in service. These planes will be in the sky for at least the next couple of decades.
