how do you know what your bottom of decent is?

Airport elevation + 2000ft roughly. You can also check approach charts if you want a more accurate figure.

I would assume that you are asking where the indication for BOD is shown (vs TD or TOD). In some aircraft types, this is displayed in the form of a graphic symbol which is "tied" to your route-of-flight line and which moves fore and aft along that line. When you think about it, unlike the TOD, the bottom of descent point is constantly changing. For example, when you reduce power, the BOD graphic point will move to show you will arrive at the bottom "sooner" whereas increasing your power (reducing your rate of descent) will obviously delay reaching the BOD which means it will be further down your planned track. Systems which have this ability are common and are extremely helpful. In the real world, the computer is constantly computing the BOD based on everything you do at the flight controls to affect the BOD point. The computer, then, constantly moves this BOD graphic along your course line instantaneously. Practically speaking, this is a really terrific feature because, for example, you can adjust any cockpit flight control or engine control which impacts the BOD point so as to attain what you desire. If I want to, for example, cross a certain intersection or point along the route at a given altitude, I can just fly a constant speed descent and adjust the power/rate-of-descent so that the BOD symbol falls directly over the intersection/point. It's important to realize that this bottom-of-descent symbology won't be displayed until you actually BEGIN your descent. Logically, this makes sense because the computer has no idea how you are going to fly the descent. So, it waits for you to "show" your technique (speed and rate of descent) and the computer calculates the results of your doing that. Note that elaborate, sophisticated avionics factor in all of the flight parameters which affect this calculated descent path. This includes density altitude, temperatures/current winds aloft, etc. for example. This feature is dynamic and one of my personal favorites. It works in both climbing and descending profiles. I enjoy this Cirrus G2 but some of these types of features are not to be expected. However, even without the symbology, the VNAV calculations to cross intersections at planned altitudes works reasonably well. If you want to see an outstanding example of better systems, I recommend the PMDG 737-800. The FMC in that product is VERY close in performance the actual aircraft's system and this BOD (moving arc) feature is no exception. It works perfectly just as it does in real life. I hope this helps you. Best regards/fly safe my friend.

Not bad. I fly an SF50G2 for a living.
    Couple comments:
Never takeoff without Bleed/Fresh set to Bleed and the O2 on. The system is set to increase the cabin altitude at specific rates and turning it to Bleed at a few thousand feet can result in arrival at cruise altitude absent correct cabin altitude (hypoxia risk)
    2. Don’t be in a hurry to bring the gear up when you still have usable runway beneath you. I know it’s a sim but right is right.
IRL, the SF50 is a lot of fun to fly and likely one of if not THE safest single engine airplane made.
    Cheers.

2:11 In this Vision Jet tutorial, the aircraft is set to VS 2000ft/min for the climb phase, while in your other CJ4 VNAV tutorial, you set the aircraft in FLC mode for the climb phase.
Which is the recommended mode for the climb phase? VS or FLC mode?
Would FLC + VNAV be a better choice, so that the aircraft FMS follows the altitude restrictions?

I have the radio set up for the correct ILS frequency. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    • @TiJayFLY

LOC1 is ILS. MSFS can be a bit funny with intercepting localisers at certain airports. The safest bet is to change to LOC1 once the airplane has already turned onto final in nav mode (assuming your route is set up runway to runway)

Oh and while we are at it, is that the reason why my throat feels itchy when i fly somewhere and the plain is in a climb, did the pilots switch the air pressure to Std to early or to late in that case? 😅

    • @TiJayFLY
      @TiJayFLY  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

VNAV is a blanket term for different functionality.
At the most basic level (seen in Garmin 430 etc) it tells you when your TOD is.
One level up from that is giving you a target vertical speed, which is what we see here.
The next level is “coupled” to the autopilot, which automatically starts the descent at TOD then adjusts the VS for you throughout.
At its most sophisticated in airliners etc it handles all phases of flight.
In the real world, each layer of complexity requires more certification and adds more cost.
I’m not sure how realistic this particular model is - it’s possible the Cirrus jet IRL has coupled VNAV but it may just not be modelled in the sim.
I believe the Honda Jet is the only light jet in MSFS with coupled VNAV.

At a systems level, there’s a lot of commonality across the same type of plane. For example, all modern Airbus are very similar, same with Boeing, and GA airplanes with G1000/G3000.
Some older airliners and stuff with a GNS530 bolted on can be a little different, but by and large there’s a ton of commonality.
