    Took mine from North Dakota to the west coast and back. Averaged more than 500 miles per day, including 120+ miles of gravel, some pretty steep. Easy riding, comfy, no fatigue, handles technical gravel well. 4000 miles. I'm 56 years old, 6'1", and fat. The bike is perfect for me.

    I love my 1090r. I've had Shinko 705's from mile 620 to 8000 right now with barely 5 months of owning the bike. Love it. Fast, pretty nimble, great for off road and even better for touring. I think the 125hp is plenty for me.

      Hi! I was thinking about getting one. How do you feel it on the street? Have you had any issue with the front wheel?

    • @portlandtwowheels1872

      @@gianmarcorusso1803 Sorry, I just noticed your comment. Still have and love the bike. Now with 17,000 miles on it. A lot of dirt, obviously a lot of road and twisties. It can ride aggressively on the street for a large, liter-sized dual sport with 10 inches of ground clearance and suspension. The front wheel is fine. If you have a soft compound tire like the tkc80 and you hit a large dip in the road with low pressure, it can be a problem. Then again, I never air down.

    It looks like the rev limiter is set in the break in mode, the power on this bike really comes in above 6,500 rpms, it's like a whole other bike. Nice video!

    KTM’s always need bar risers to stand comfortably cause they always have super high ground clearance. Same with the 501. It’s got almost 2” more clearance then the Honda CRFX

    I’m not sure the 790 is going to be drastically better off rd then the 1090. It’s FAR more of an adventure bike then it is a Dual Sport Enduro like the 690, just with an uncomfortable dirtbike type seat. I think the difference between the 690 and 790 will be much greater then between 790 and 1090 weight and handling wise. But the 1090 will be more comfortable imo.

      I couldn't agree more which is why I went with the 1290 over the 1090 (also got it at a deep discount that made the price almost equal). The 1090 and 1290 are virtually identical offroad (22lb weight difference), but with the 1290 I can hit a button and play superbike hunter. The 790 seems to exist to capture the current Enduro trend, but given its weight it's not significantly more capable than KTM's larger offerings offroad. I have a built XR650R which is significantly more capable offroad than any 7/10/1290, so buying an adventure bike that behaves like an unchained animal on tarmac just made sense since it is the one performance area that definitely stands out.

      The 790r will weigh around 195kg wet with a few easy mods. 30kg less than a 990r, with almost the same suspension travel. The 790r is in the same league as a super enduro or hp2.

      Yeah. Thought about those that switched from a 1190 or 1090 to a 790. Some love it, some regret it. Me? I am just going to keep my 1090R. I will take it wherever.

    Was at Clare's last weekend and I think I have settled on a 1090 R with different tires. They have a 2016 1290 for $14 999, which seems like a great deal. I don't need 160 hp, and think the 1090 will be better for long trips.
    After riding both, did you have a preference?

    • @DifferentSpokesTV
      @DifferentSpokesTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually like the look of the 1090 better. The power of the 1290 and the electronically adjustable suspension make it the better bike overall but there is something to be said for lightness, especially if you do some riding off road. I’d say that if all you do is ride on pavement then get the 1290, if you like gravel and some fire roads the 1090 will be better. For the same price the 1290 is the better deal. What makes the 1090 compelling is it’s reasonable price. You’re can find them in good condition and with low miles in the $12000 range. Good luck on your decision.

    • @khakimzhanmiras
      @khakimzhanmiras 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not much difference. Half of the weight savings are the center stand. 1090 has an analog dash and suspension is set up better out of the box.

    • @yenb86
      @yenb86 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are good deals out there. I paid $12.2 + Tax for a new 1090 R with heated grips and a center stand. This was 2 months ago.

    • @DifferentSpokesTV

    (8:15) I wouldn't say the 790 is "much lighter." 440 wet vs 450 dry.

    Nice Road review of the bike! Just one complaint. The background music drove me crazy! Like i was playing a Unicorn video game. Actually gave me stress watching. I don't get why people add music when they do reviews we want to hear the wind buffeting and gauge it, and the sound of the bike while changing gears and pulling gears.

    How pulls from 2000 to 4000 rpm on 4, 5 and 6 gear, some one say it feels slow but it has 109 nm sounds strange, what do you say about?
    Would you recommend this bike for long trips with passenger and 80/20 tires like tck 70 ?
