as a musician/writer/artist who lived in LA 26 yrs (last 3 Downtown) i appreciate this on so many levels- strangely enough, this film's style reminds me a bit of my old colleague Andre Champagne, who was the one who turned me on to you at first *(we even watched 'Repo Man' together- and i believe, if not mistaken, there was one other that we watched that had been before that) i know, i'm a newbie to this film, & came through DM, but i am no newbie to you, Alex, and have always liked your work a lot...
Hello there! I´m from Spain ( tough not a nacionalist spanish, you know? A catalan who love Orwell, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Welles and Alex Cox ). I can´t believe that I have found this tresoure: YOUR STUDENT FILM!! . SID AND NANCY is one of my all time favourites, and the School of audiovisuals in wich I studied looks absolutly like REPO MAN. It was at the edge of Barcelona, where the factories were closing down, mechanics ... And the biggest place to buy heroin. So everyday I have to watch yonkys doing their stuff, laying on the streets, or watch myself not to get robbed with an used needle. Now I want to go to the South, where the goverment has gave a square to Joe Strummer. Hope to see the locations of STRAIGHT TO HELL, and get the Criterion edition of your films. By the way SID AND NANCY sold all the copies, tell´em to make more! And oh yeah, I did a short movie influenced by your work, and I wanna write a biography about Durruti, George Orwell and Billy the kid, too ( different movies, not all in the same ). You have lot of friends and more than fans in Spain, director Alex de la Iglesia, and Oscar Aibar ( PERDITA DURANGO-you were there, yeah I know- and ATOLLADERO- a movie with more catastrophies in the making that APOCALYPSE NOW and DON QUIJOTE ) name you as one of the best ever. And me too, by the way. Fuck we are very few anarchist left after Franco. PD: Thank you for getting me into Sid Vicious and Buñuel, when I was a kid.
