    • @TheTheorder
      @TheTheorder ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Forreal, saying Denzel > Drake or Drake not being a GOAT is an insane take just because of Drake's numbers and impact are the same type of arguments people use to dismiss people like MF DOOM being above Drake/Future/etc. or generally being one of the GOAT rappers. It's goofy reasoning, and I was surprised to see the NFR boys give credence to it. I'm not saying that either of the two Drake takes are inarguable, but there's strong arguments for them.

    I hate when people use "influence" and "impact on the genre" as their only argument for why someone is a GOAT. If we give ignore Drake's music and call him great just because of his impact, then we might as well have Soulja Boy in every top 25 list.

      Exactly, you need to have more then just “impact”, someone like Kendrick has the impact, critical acclaim, skill, and longevity. All drake has is impact, if you’re going based of that alone you may as well out 50 cent or t pain in your top 10 of all time.

      Saying Drake is the Hip Hop GOAT is like saying Nickleback is the GOAT rock band. Drake’s discography is nowhere near good enough to be considered the GOAT, he’s just popular. And if you want to talk about influence, even then, I think Kanye is far more influential than Drake.

    I mean the thing about Drake that's always bothered me is that his music is designed to have the largest most broad appeal imaginable.You're designing something that sells well while sort of blunting the sharpness of the record. I think that you can't really have the "fallen off" take if you think 3k or Eminem is up there because Idleworld and Revival are dips in quality as well, but with Drake, if we're saying that his peak is IYRTITL or Take Care, those are solid albums, and often really fun albums, but they aren't exactly to the caliber of an Aquemini, ATLiens, or Stankonia. Drake has sales and longevity, but if you are going to be "the greatest" you need a top 10 project or something in the vicinity. Nas has one, Kendrick has two. Lauren Hill arguably has two (I will die on the hill that The Score is one of the best projects ever). Outkast potentially even has 3 in that conversation. I'm sorry, but I really don't think the peak is there. I think in that regard, I'd maybe even put Lupe in a conversation like this before Drake, but that is just taste I guess.

    so I see a lot of talk of “Denzel better than drake” and “drake was sooo much better than Denzel” and I’ll just say…
    there is a crazy amount of DJ Khaled around here. We all saw what happened with Khaled and Tyler, right? we saw Khaled get what on, and his ego deflate at an instant when he didn’t win that Grammy, when he got passed on the charts by Igor, a “non-traditional” album. Everyone is so focused on numbers, and the genuinely believe that numbers make artists “good”. I saw someone say that Denzel is not a better artist than Drake. to that person: let’s keep it a buck. If Drake was a better artist, he would hear the absolute ASS that “he made” with CLB and HNVM, and would have reworked nearly every song on both projects.
    Good artists are able to create conceptual art, and cohesive art. Denzel’s MMESYF encapsulates everything about the 90s instrumentally, but encapsulates the 2010s and upcoming 2020s lyrically, flow wise, symbolically, and with his cadences. he. is. better. let’s all get out of middle school and start admitting that those with genuine talent (Denzel, JID, Earl, Aminé, Isaiah Rashad) are all miles ahead of the ones who know that they will still make shit loads of money by farting into a mic, submitting it, and then going to do nothing else because they can’t bother themselves to put the effort in to make themselves respectable again.

    As someone who isn't either a Drake fan or hater, I just see Drake like a normal mainstream artist that can make good music, it has bad songs but he knows how to make good songs go viral, I feel like in terms of marketing and business he's a genius, like he KNOWS what will make people talk about him and he even set trends and influenced a ton of today's music...
    But with that said, to me the GOAT conversation it's almost like a balance, because you have "Influence" and "Impact", but there's also "Lyrics", "Creativity", "Versatility", "Flow", "Artistry", "Composition", "Consistency" and "Longevity" and in one hand yeah Drake has a huge impact & influence like Eminem, 2Pac, Jay-Z or Lil Wayne but in the other hand Drake can't rap better than them, and if we talk more about Creativity and Artistry then you have artists like Kendrick, Andre 3K, MF DOOM, Nas, etc... which they made music more conceptual, creative and clever.
    Now I understand why people like Drake's music, he made dope songs and he can still make good songs when he wants to, but he doesn't have the same level of talent as other artists, for example Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber have some of the biggest songs on streaming history, Does that means they're the GOAT singers? No, they made dope songs but there's MANY singers that sing and create better projects than them.

    saying RIP LUV is a "cringe skip" on savage mode 2 is an even worse take than saying sm2 is better than without warning

    Love the fact that Drake fans only love to bring "impact", sales and hits but never bring his artistry/skillset lol. 1st, his catalog is weak amongst his peers, no classic album (a top 10 goat rap album contender), got vividly exposed for benefiting from ghostwriting, he shamelessly bites off upcoming rappers, his rapping skillset is quite limited (Never tells stories, super monotone). Bro might be the goat pop-rapper, but not one of the goat MC's

    SM2 overall quality and highlights beat any of his previous projects IMO. Rapping performances are much better and more consistent that those on sm1 or even without warning. Production is almost flawless, excluding mr right now and rip love.

    I don’t think that jay z ever had a long period of being completely dominant and just being “the man” in hip hop like a lot of the other goats. That being said, saying he isn’t top 10 is crazy, should definitely be at least top 5 in everyone’s list
