    World Cultural Heritage Sites:
Seokguram Hermitage, Bulguk Temple and Haein Temple are representative of Korea's rich Buddhist tradition and listed as World Cultural Heritage sites.
    Daily Life in Korean Temples:
Korea is known as the place where the tradition of Seon (Zen) Buddhism has remained the purest int he world.
    Experiencing Korean Buddhism:
Laypeople who attend Templestay can experience a different kind of happiness and joy.

The korean buddhism is one of the few remained diamonds from the past. If we loose it we will loose something valuable from this world.

I'm an ex-Christian who has awakened to the simple yet relevant teachings of Buddhism. Korean Christians who want to destroy Korean Buddhism are arrogant and small-minded. I know because I was once a Christian. I hope young Koreans can spread through missionary work and be proud of the strong cultural, traditional and religious ties of Buddhism. Many Europeans, Americans and Australians have taken up Buddhism and abandoned the fairy tale teachings of Christianity.

May all come to the Holy Dharma and stay away from fiction-based religions. The Dharma is the only way to be forever liberated from suffering. Peace, love and enlightenment to all.

I was a Christian Pastor for 27 years, then reverted to Islam, "the religion of Peace" just to find a world of hatred, religious antagonisms between Sunnis vs. Shias, and millions of fabricated scriptures like Ahadit. I have come to a conclusion with my journey: Dharma is the only absolute truth. I can easily relate to Chan/Zen Buddhism. Metta!

Beautiful images. I think there is a great need for such a wonderful tradition in Korea, as the sucide rate is the highest in the world now in that country that I truly love. I hope the sound of the wooden fish will save many Korean sentient beings too in the future. So far the only place in the world, where the fertility rate has been below one, apart from permanent warzones, is the city of Pusan in South Korea, not too far from places where these peaceful and wonderful images were made.
It may also be more important to have our mind at peace. The true tradition is a method that helps people achieve this. There did not seem to be anything said about the Buddhas teaching in this video. Buddhism is the teaching of the Buddha. Buddhist clothes, Buddhist architrcture, Buddhist music is also nice, but does it really save sentient beings? I appreciate all the efforts that made this video, and all teaching and popularizing efforts of the Jogye Order, and I pray these efforts also show in the future that they are able to contribute to overcoming problems in the Korean society. Thank You

A university student while visiting Gasan asked him: 'Have you ever read the Christian Bible?'
'No, read it to me,' said Gasan. The student opened the Bible and read from St Mattew: 'And why take ye thought for
raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin, and yet I say unto you that
even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ...Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the
morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.'
Gasan said: 'Whoever uttered those words I consider an enlightened man.'
The student continued reading: 'Ask and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto
you. For everyone that asketh receiveth, and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.'
Gasan remarked: ‘That is excellent. Whoever said that is not far from Buddhahood.' - from zen flesh, zen bones

I had a Korean friend. His family have been Buddhist for generations. He told me most Koreans these days are Christian. You can only find a few Buddhists in the countryside. Buddhism and Confucism had play an important significance role in the Korean culture for thousand of years. The Korean Christian community are slowly abandon their father homeland culture and becoming westernized.

+kuanlimputera Absolutely agree. Most Westerners are turning toward Buddhism to find the real truth. Christianity to me is kinda like a fairy tale for little children. As Einstein even said Buddhism is the only religion that goes along with Science with proof and spirituality.

    Superior marketing techniques.
Christianity became linked w/the US forces stationed in the South after the rise of the two Koreas. Since they were (and are) Christian, their religion became linked to security.
Later, when the South's economy boomed largely because of US investment, Christianity became associated with wealth and progress.
There is also the fact that many Buddhist temples are located in the countryside, whereas Christian churches are in the cities.
    Still, I agree. It's sad.

    • @NikaBoyce
      @NikaBoyce 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Anrwi so what you are saying (and i agree) is that christianity is a cargo cult in S Korea. Christianity has always been successful at co-opting local customs that relate to power structures. Always.
