    I feel for you, Ben 😢 I had to stop running at mile 14.5 during the 2018 Chicago Marathon due to stress reaction. I cried like a baby. My husband who is a radiologist had a quick look at your scan. He thinks you would need at least 2 months or more of no running…sorry for your injury

    • @ThatRunnerAaron
      @ThatRunnerAaron 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      It’s tough to accept the severity of an injury & I think Ben is being glass half full like he usually is, but I was thinking ‘2-4 weeks for a stress fracture?’ Doesn’t sound like nearly enough time.

      Tibial stress fracture is 2 to 3 months recovery. I don't know how the femur compares but I'd assume similar

    • @user-bg2ld2gi4u
      @user-bg2ld2gi4u 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If he is a radiologist then he should know better than making sweeping judgements having never examined or spoken with Ben. Given what Ben said and the MRI I would rule out an iliio tibial band problem- a common over use injury in runners and can cause thigh pain on walking and running .

    Get well soon Ben, I really appreciate what you said about not everyone understanding how big a deal it can be to have to stop running. I worked up to running 30km per week earlier this year but overdid it a bit with hard sessions and got a minor tendon issue. It was very depressing to stop running to recover and I know it will take me a while to (safely) get back to 30km per week. All the best and it will be great to watch your recovery journey while I work on mine!

    Dear Ben, I love your channel you are a positive person which is 7/8th of the battle.
    I got in contact with you when you first posted the strange feeling in your leg and told you about my son who has been recovering from his own stress reaction in his femur. I feel for you but it is the nature of the beast to a certain degree, running is a high impact sport and these things happen from time to time. I send you my best wishes for a speedy recovery but don't rush it as it will prolong the recovery period way longer as my son found out. Great decision to go to Kenya and enjoy being with your partner for the first 10 days and then concentrate on your rehab surrounded by world class athletes that would have been through the same or similar injuries. Hopefully you and my son will cross paths as he will be in The same place in early December. Take care and keep smiling big fella. KIA KAHA! (which means "stay strong" in the Māori language.

    I'm sad to see that you're injured Ben. Like you said acceptance is the hardest part when you face an injury as a runner. I had a stress reaction in the outer right side of my right foot during my marathon training cycle this year. I had to take a full week off from running, which was the first week in 2 years without running. It was hard to get through. But I took it as a blessing in disguise where my body is forcing me to take recovery more seriously. Ben, please sleep more during this recovery period you have, sleep is the best recovery tool. It will help you heal from this faster.

    So sorry to hear about your injury. Must be quite devastating for you, especially considering running is a huge part of your life. As for what you mentioned about swimming, Ive heard from several sources that swimming can be \ is recommended as part of ones varied forms of exercise/ training ,much as Yoga, Pilates is beneficial for a serious or recreational runner. Maybe you should consider taking up swimming as part of your training regime from now on. As for your recovery, having you document your recovery would be a good idea, as much as the running itself. Esspecialy considering that injuries are unfortunately part of a runners life, young, old, recreational and professional. Looking forward to seeing you back on the saddle again ASAP.

    Loved the gratitude for such an awesome healthy streak full of PBs and adventure before the injury. Positive thoughts for a speedy and full recovery! Maybe the door opens for triathlons? 😛

    Sad to hear this but enjoy the holiday, and you have the right attitude , be nice if you can get some content of the locals lives and how running has impacted in the town (perhaps speak to some older residents )

    Having had 2 tibial stress fractures in 2 years my advice would be treat it as if it is the worst case and if it heals sooner it's a bonus. My first one I extended my recovery time because initially I was trying to run on it thinking it was only shin splints. I'd been injury free for 2 years until 4 days ago when I rolled my heel on an uneven pavement, although it should only be a couple of weeks off. Good luck!

    That's a major bummer, but it's almost inevitable at some point. It's hard to know how much your body can take unless you take a chance and push it to the limit. But you gain a lot of knowledge from doing so and your future training will benefit greatly from this experience. Also, I think it's way more interesting and helpful to see how athletes overcome adversity. Doing rehab properly requires a ton of patience and discipline. I'm looking forward to seeing how you transform your rehab experience into a story.
