I think you'd have more success by keeping the drum as high as possible and spinning as fast as possible for at least a second after first making contact with the tree. That way you make sure you're eating all the way through the trunk before dropping the drum down. And when you're bringing it down listen for the drum RPMs. If it bogs down too much you should move a little slower to keep the drum speed up. That way you'll shred more of the tree in the air, and the mulch will be smaller chips too. You won't have to go back and make so many passes on the ground to eat it up, which dulls the teeth a lot faster.

Got about 3 acres I’d love to mulch. Wife says no, she doesn’t want to take a chance that she could see the neighbors thru the woods.
