Moral of the story........ never let Anger, Sadness or Anxiety stop you from finding the Pleasures in life.
Chans fathers motto, whatever you do in life, JUST ENJOY.

I like your reactions to Stray Kids!
Yes there is an underlying concept.
The song's English title "Lalalala" refers to the key sentence of the song, but its Korean name is pronounced like "rock." The Korean title refers to the Chinese character that means "pleasure."
The emotions disappear one by one until only Rak is left, probably representing how this song makes you forget everything else but Rak/rock/pleasure!
    怒 (anger) disappears at 1:03
    喜 (happiness) disappears at 1:48
哀 (sadness) disappears at 2:00, leaving us with just 樂, so in the end, only joy/pleasure (the same character as music) remains!
They’ve been throwing more and more pop culture into their MVs over the years and this is a perfect example of that.
Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight, Mad Max: Fury Road.
The framing device is about how it's the children's or child's first performance and they're feeling a swirl of mixed and anxious emotions about it - and eventually learns to lean into enjoying the music, which parallels the hanja of each feeling eventually disappearing in the main MV until the kids can perform well.

      @Jesscorpio 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +15

also each of the scenes represents one of the emotions!
the pirate ship is anger, and you can see the character 怒 on the flags they're holding on and in front of the ship.
the clown/bank scene is happiness, and the character 喜 is on the flags hanging off of the building.
the white scene is sadness, and the character 哀 is on the pillar behind them.
the fiery scene with the vehicles is pleasure, and the character 樂 is on the red flags around them.

  • @enzael
    @enzael 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +41

The rock version is really great too !
The for MV : The big creatures are the representation of stage fright and Stray Kids help the little kids beat them with their song (each stages are an emotion, anger, sadness, pleasure and happiness and throughout the music video, the emotions disappear one by one until only pleasure is left. The word for pleasure is Rak almost the same word as rock vocaly)

  • @Eddruu
    @Eddruu 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +23

There's a short video that comes before this MV. In it you can see the children's band is about to go up to the stage and they're going through a lot of emotions. So, when this MV starts you can see those emotions represented with the alien monsters behind the public. The song is about conquering those fears and anxieties and plays a lot with the different meanings of the word "rak/rock", in english, korean and chinese, and how it sounds (YT channel Form of Therapy made a great analysis of this).
During the MV, SKZ are inside the mind of the children, and what could be more children-like than have scenes of different movies (Batman Dark Night, Pirates of the Caribean/One Piece, Mad Max, etc.) to represent their thoughts and imagination?

  • @FWvidChick
    @FWvidChick 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

Noone ever remarks about how funny it is when Bang Chan suddenly gets chased. The concept for this whole video of the emotions fading and the lil kids finding courage to play in their band is fab.

SKZ m/vs are always ALOT. As a new visitor to Stayville, it's best to just go with it at first and take it all in. There is meaning to everything , but I think you still haven't gotten who Stray Kids are. Their lyrics and music almost always go hand in hand. For LALALALA, it's about facing everything (anger, fear, pleasure) to get to pure joy. Stray Kids music also doesn't fit into one genre. They tend to go for it all depending on the track.
What's fantastic for this American mom in her 50s who NEVER thought that she'd ever follow kpop, is that of all the different types music genres I've listened to over the decades (my tastes ran the gamut - Bee Gees, Rod Stewart, The Clash, Echo and the Bunnymen, U2, Duran Duran, B52s, Prince New Edition, Mary J Blige, Dashboard Confessional, Paramore, Bruno Mars are a few) influence their sound. SKZ have written and produced almost 200 tracks for me to choose from depending on my mood! Several compare to the sounds I am most used to hearing.
    Try some of these m/vs:
    - District 9
    - Victory Song
    - Cheese
    - Super Board
    - Social Path
    - Miroh
    Lyric vids:
    Battle Ground
    Why
Thanks for the reaction! I'll check out your band online!

Thank you for reviewing. I love this song. There is a concept. It has to do with the Chinese characters that keep popping up.
They represent Anger, Sadness, Joy and I’m unsure on the last one. Confusion, frustration, sorry I don’t remember. But basically each set is based on a movie and represents an emotion. As the song moves along all the negative emotions disappear and only joy is left. It’s about joy in music. Also the kids conquer their stage fright (aka the aliens 😂) and give an awesome performance. All the crazy happens in the kids minds.
There is also a rock version of this song. That may be more up your alley. It has more traditional rock instruments. The guitar is glorious in that.
Try not to look too hard for patterns in SKZ music. They’re very loose. They cover several genres. If you want rock like music from SKZ check “Awaken” and “Why” there are more that I can’t think of off the top of my head. No videos for those, but lyric vids are available.

It might not be obvious to you at first, but nothing is ever random for SKZ. they put a lot of thought and design into everything they do. I see people explaining in the comments, so hopefully that helps, but honestly, you can figure a lot of it out on your own if you really take it seriously and spend some time. I mean no disrespect, bc you guys seem genuinely nice and open-minded, but you do seem to be approaching them as if they fit into the pattern of American boy bands, and nothing could be further from the truth (I say this as an American who is unimpressed with American boy bands). Thus far, you have seen a couple of their "radio hits," but their catalog is deep and varried. They have actually struggled in Korea for not fitting into the kpop mold. You might like their new OST called "Why?" It's musically interesting, and while there isn't an mv, there are lyric videos for it❤.

Explained my feelings so well! I know it's easy to be lulled into complacency with #1 the boy band image, #2 it being labeled Kpop, and #3 the language barrier, but Stray Kids are so much more than any of those things! There is such a deep and meaningful message behind their lyrics and music, but I understand it's hard to grasp with one run thru of a singular music video. It can be overwhelming. Just know there's ALWAYS more there than what you see at face value. Go in knowing that, ask questions, and most definitely read the comments and you'll definitely move closer to understanding!

Stray Kids always have a reason for their MVs and often include Easter eggs for fans. As someone has already explained, this MV is no different. They are known for their high energy songs but they can surprise with some beautiful ballads too. Their lyrics are often about empowerment, self-confidence, overcoming, resilience, being authentic, pursuing your dreams, living your best life. You can go rap heavy, edm, regular pop, chill, ballad, etc. They mix up their genres and you won’t find many song’s exactly the same though their more recent title tracks are all high energy. Given your punk leanings, I wonder if you’d like their debut song from 2018 called District 9, Cheese and also Superboard. I’d suggest Battleground too but no MV.

My best advice to the concepts, you need to watch the album trailer before the main title track. They set up the story in those 1ish minute trailers that is usually resolved in the album, or introduces the theme.
Even if it’s off-screen, I’d recommend checking out the rock-star album trailer now to get an idea of the set up.
Edited to add, this particular album trailer is titled:

Somebody likely already opened the story of the music video so I won't go into that and likely has already also told more about SKZ but I'll still do an info dump.
Let's start with Kpop. Unlike the name suggests it's not just pop nor is Kpop a genre per se (It is nuanced topic as lot of kpop music is recognizable as kpop) but kpop has multiple of genres inside the spectrum from bubblegum pop to rock bands that even play the instruments while performing. I think the only area that's not as present is metal music, but there is elements of it found too.
Kpop generally means a idol group formed by a label. Like SKZ is from JYP and Taemin is or was from SM. Usually artist join as kids/teens to the company and become trainees where they learn and practice singing, dancing, performing etc the whole idol etiquette. When they are ready typically the label pick the members and creates a group, gives them a concept. Nowadays more and more artist participate in the music production, either by concept creating, lyrics writing or even the music production. Kpop is separated into 5 generations where 1st started in the 90's and the 5th kickstarted this year. SKZ debuted in 2018 thus they are 4th gen boy group.
SKZ is special in many ways what comes to typical kpop groups. First they are formed by the leader, Bangchan who is also the main producer of the group. SKZ produces all their music themselves. They do have the company's production team at their disposal. The production team of SKZ is called 3racha (Yes, the hotsauce, number 3 is pronounced similarly in korean so it sounds like sriracha) 3racha consist 3 of the members Bangchan, Changbin and Han. But they always include the other members too into the production. So that was already 2 oddities in the industry, the way they were formed and that they fully produce their music. Third is that they don't have set roles for the members but all member can and do everything, rap, sing, dance. So they really are multitalented. These are not unique traits just for SKZ but definitely uncommon in the industry. We love to call them the stray of the industry because they are a wild card that with few other groups started a whole new wave and style in the industry.
Hope this helps to give more perspective what goes into the music.
SKZ has a huge discography and there is so many styles of music they have made. Their Japanese releases typically have little more rock feel to them (Social Path, WHY?, The Sound and others). They have videos for lot of their music too. And those that don't have there is these color-coded lyric videos that fans have made where you can see which member is singing which part. Great way to learn the members too btw (some of them have some weird extra music playing at the end that confuses some reactor sometimes). All of their Korean videos have captions, Japanese typically don't. You can recognize the Japanese song by the [brackets] on the title.
Guess I could also rec some songs now too :'D Some of my faves as a metalhead who also loves trap and edm are Side Effects (MV), Easy (MV), Thunderous (MV), Hall of Fame (Lyric video), Muddy Water (Lyric Video), The Sound [MV], All In [MV], Cheese (MV) and Domino (Dance Practice video, only has the unveil video which is only part of the song which is why I suggest the dance practice one).
Other recs that I feel are important part of the SKZ journey:
Hellevator (This is a pre-debut when youngest of them was still only 16)
District 9 (Their debut song, includes original 9 members)
MIROH (This is first title that kinda brought them into bigger audience)
    Victory Song (Just because)
Levanter (Closing a era and starting a new with the 8 of them)
Mixtape: OH (The First Take version. First take is a youtube channel who invites artist to perform their songs live with one take)
Christmas EveL (Sure its a seasonal song but it's not what you except)
FAM (kor. version with the video, Fun introduction song)
    S-Class (You will know why)
Their more rock type of songs are Social Path, YAYAYA, Time out, Awaken. Tho all of their music has edm, hiphop, trap and some pop influence in them.
They also made a rock version of the LALALALA but if you ask me it's more of a metal version haha.
Hope you have great time with SKZ and the Stays~ See you in the next reaction.

The little kids performing in a recital represent the group. The dark giants represent the anxiety of performing and chasing your dreams. You'll notice Chinese symbols that represent the emotions: anger, sorrow, joy, and pleasure (happiness). One by one each emotion is conquered until only happiness remains.
Stray Kids do a lot of play on words in their music and the Korean word for happiness sounds a lot like "Rock".
They also are big fans of anime and Marvel and DC, so you'll often see references in their MVs.

The name of the song in Korean (Rak) is actually correctly translated into «Pleasure/ Enjoyment». Rock vs Rak, you see the wordplay right?
Its about celebrating taking pleasure/ enjoyment out of doing whatever you do.
Not aliens, but internal emotional conflict depicted as imagined monsters. But, in the end those feelings cannot hurt the marching band or Stray Kids. And in the end Stray Kids salutes the marching band for completing their performance and overcoming their internal emotional battles.
The different scenes refers to movies (Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mad Max:Fury Road) and the feelings that are defeated in them (Happiness, Sorrow and Anger).

The children are trying to give a preformance, and are suffering from stage fright.
Each 'set' represents a different emotion. There are also 4 Chinese characters of the emotions shown in the mv. (喜怒哀樂) as in happiness, anger, sadness, and joy(pleasure).
Through out the MV, Stray Kids are 'defeating' each emotion. When they defeat it, the Chinese character desolves.
In the end, only Joy (Pleasure) Is left, and the children complete their preformance successfully.

    A fyi:
-They write, conpose and produce pretty much every bit of their music and have almost total control over it
-The leader, Bang Chan, trained for a very long time, so JYP trusted him and he was allowed to hand pick each member instead of the company doing it. This is unheard of.
-They have a huge collection of music in only 5ish years and an insane amount of awards. They have started to rack up awards in the US and have headlined festivals all over the world, including the US. They are headlining Lalapalozza in Chicago this year.
-Many videos have intros that are seperate and give background to the story of the music video. th-cam.com/video/52HQOPBtwrQ/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared Albums usually have full on story videos that give the overarching story of the album and the songs.
People have already given the meaning behind the video, so I won't rehash it, but pretty much EVERYTHING they do is linked with story lines, Easter eggs, or themes. IE the bus is from their first debut song, District 9, and the numbers on the bus are the date they debuted.

idk about other Stays but I think District 9 - which also happens to be their debut song - had a good rock/metal influence to it and would really love to know what you guys think of it.
They came a long way from District 9 in terms of genre. They have anything from generic kpop to phonk and everything in between but generic is definitely not a term to describe Stray Kids.
Also, the "What the heck" at the start was hilarious because yeah most of us feel the same too😂😂

They use alot of movie references in their videos.
    Case 143..the shining
    Kingdom performance was deadpool
District 7 was their 1st on 3 25its in every video..like an easter egg in movies.
They produce their own so it does get interesting and fun to see.
