I believe the Cayin C9 to still be one of the best portable amplifiers available on the market. I am very looking forward to comparing the C9 to a Mass Kobo 475, or Brise Tsunaragi and Aroma A100TB if I ever get the opportunity to.

I own the Cayin C9 and Astell & Kern SR35 which I believe uses the same amp section as the SP3000 on high gain and I can't tell a difference. Once carefully volume matching and not knowing which was which. When I did know which was which I could have sworn the Cayin sounded warmer but I guess it was in my head. I guessed the Cayin correctly only 60% of the time when not knowing which was which. I bought the Cayin because it has more power than the SR35 and analog inputs, which to me makes it more future-proof and usable with devices that only have analog outputs. I do highly recommend the Cayin C9 but don't know if it truly sounds dramatically different than my Astell & Kern SR35.
Cayin C9 is a really good purchase still if you can find one used for cheap, but I really don't think it is as impressive after comparing it to other portable amps around now. Make sure to let it heat up a little though. The iBasso PB5 is just far superior, which is what I personally have now bought. I actually really liked the Aroma A100TB + Power Supply as well which I never thought would happen given its an Aroma product. Mass Kobo 475 is great but not my preference for sonics, and other amps that are better cost much more!

own the C9 and Enleum 23rm.. both are great portables amps but the Enleum drives the Susvara better..bass is more punchy.. more detailed.. better staging and lots of headroom on power..
And with other cans? Do you use different interconnects? I am owning the c9 in a very high end desktop system and the quality of the interconnects is basically more important than the Dac feeding it there 😅

What are your thoughts on the new Tiger Ice V2 skates, you reckon its worth upgrading from its predecessor?
Both are good. I think V2 is slightly slower but better quality, I'd use V2 but I don't think its a necessary upgrade if you already have V1 on.
Do you use this combination in line or pre mode? I have the same components.
I use line, set mojo2 to purple colour balls (near Max output) and control volume via C9.
So have you managed to compare to MK 475? Especially with IEMs like the storm
Yeah I have! MK475 is definitely a step ahead of the C9, but tonally I am not a fan of the MK475 which has an excessive treble quantity despite being extremely competent all round. MK475 is easily one of the best portable amps though, it would go well with IEMs that have less treble so you can boost it that way, or if you are looking for more treble and dynamics.
C9 does still have a lot more bass rumble, but also feels a bit bloated when compared to other good amps.
Instead, I am a huge fan of the Aroma A100TB and Brise Tsunaragi. A100TB is also a bit behind MK475 & Tsunaragi, but nonetheless still an amazing amp.
@@its_yifang good to know, wasn’t a fan of the C9 for IEMs. I bought 475 now for my Traillii and I’m waiting for a custom IC to connect it to desktop dacs. Will see how it goes and pairs up. Passed on tsuranagi still curious about it, but mass kobo is just better suited for desktop use with its batteries
