Weekends at my Army barracks in Germany were really fun because there was always something going on or someone going out that would ask if you wanted to join. Our mini-fridges were packed with beer of course while I preferred keeping a bottle of Absolut that I'd hit straight out of the bottle. Someone was always broke blowing it all the previous weekend at disco techs or 'houses of ill repute'. (Totally legal in Germany.) Saturday nights were actually pretty quiet in the barracks because nearly everyone was off base and wanted to get a little distance between the Army and themselves if only momentarily. (God Bless our German guards at the front entrance that always put up with our drunken asses returning after a night out with a smile and were always helpful.)

It was always hard to find someone else who could appreciate a good stout. Most drank piss water disguised as a lager, pilsner or ale. They said it was because, to them, stout tasted like tar. I think it was not only due to an unsophisticated palate, but because a tight ass is going to buy the least expensive product to have more to drink, even if it does taste like it came from a horses bladder. Myself, I'll spend a bit more for the superior flavor (and higher alcohol content) of a good stout. If you enjoy Guinness, you may want to try finding something from D.G. Yuengling & Son (American owned and operated since 1829). They used to have a seasonal Winter Bock that was outstanding! It was dark, rich, smooth and a full 12.5% alcohol by volume! That's about double of a normal beer. I'm not sure that you'll be able to find any Yuengling near 29 Stumps though, and definitely not at the PX.
