Word. The Wire made his name ring bells but he was an awesome actor before The Wire. He killed the part of Omar though. That part was his and he will ALWAYS be remembered for being "Omarrr comin"
Yep, always kinda had a soft spot for the kids, and in a sense underestimated them. When Kenard saw Omar limping, he was disappointed because the legend of Omar that he envisioned in his mind was shattered, his fear of Omar left, and that’s how he knew he could take him out easily. Did you notice how Marlo wanted his name to be remembered, but in the end, Omar’s name is the one everyone talked about.
Oddly the kid they show in this video at the 1:29 mark is THE kid. They foreshadow the character in that clip where Omar passes by him crouching down in the alley apparently about to set a cat on fire.
Ya kenard was beating cats in the slley. He was a "bad kid". He robbed kids older than him and stood tall on his shit. Kenard perfectly displayed the new wave of kids @Cavario_the_mind_plug
David Simon said that this and Prop Joe’s death were examples of how the paper missed *all* the big stories in this season and were completely unfamiliar with the city they ostensibly covered.
Yes they couldn't even write a two sentence blurb. Because they didn't have enough reporters and they had budget cuts and they were distracted by chasing awards and everything.
“At the end of the day, the King and the pawn go back into the same box because the game is The Game.” That is probably the best single sentence summary one could make of The Wire, and using the metaphor from the show is really artful. I really dig your vids, but I’m super impressed by how well you constructed that.
Also, the white guy in the morgue is one of the cops in the first season. The one that was thinking about falling down the stairs and taking early retirement. I think symbolize how in the end death is the great equalizer for cop and criminal.
What I love most about Marlo’s last scene and Omar’s death is that it shows that in the end, even though he died, Omar won. He beat Marlo, whose name is even an anagram of Omar with an added L. In the end, everyone was talking about Omar with legend status, but no one even knew who Marlo was, and now there’s nothing Marlo can do to save his rep on the street, while Omar’s name will continue to ring out until people start talking about Michael.
Mar(s) was the God of War, and is even referenced by Omar, who points out, "Greeks called him Ares." Omar was the O-Mar(s), unlike the lesser Mar(s) - Mar-lo.
Marlo ended the show with the choice of being a legitimate businessman, but when those kids tried to rob him and he bested them, it was implied that he wouldn’t leave the streets behind.
@missmaomi28 lol niiiice. I'm like that with Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and Sons of Anarchy. I don't have HBO on demand to watch The Wire. I think imma buy the complete series off Amazon
I actually think in a way it shows that Omar didn't end up just another body but got to keep his name in death. Remember, Marlo says "my name is my name." Omar got the respect Marlo wanted because he was a man of the people. I like to think he got a proper homegoing, he did have a grandmother he took to church on Sundays.
Interesting take. I had kind of the opposite take myself. When I first saw the scene, I took it as Omar was a big name on the streets of Baltimore amongst the drug trade and the Baltimore PD, but outside of that world, he was just another dead body as a result of the crime that plagued the city. That's the beauty of a show that's written this well. Two people can have two completely different interpretations of a scene and neither is wrong.
Wow. I’ve never thought anything into that scene except an intern or new employee messed up but in The Wire there are no throw away time filling scenes. Thanks!
But in the streets Chris and Snoop took credit for the hit. There is a scene where Snoop is telling the crew that Stringer was begging for his life and how pathetic it was. That's where it's believed he died like a coward.
I feel like Omar was a part of the big picture. Those who need to know you know you. Just because certain individuals are unfamiliar with you does not mean you don’t possess a heavy role in things. Everyone who needed to know him knew him. Mean while no one spoke about Marlo. His name only meant something to himself
The point is all his concern about having a reputation on the street, it's all fleeting. He's one of the most fascinating characters in Baltimore and yet the newspaper didn't even have space to write a two sentence blurb about him. They chose to cover a little fire instead. The morgue almost misidentified him. The whole point is that he'll quickly be forgotten. His obsession over his reputation in the street was a misguided descent
Heavy role in things within his “little” world. Same way a CEO mostly holds weight within the business sector and outside of that (money aside) no one would respect him more than others. So I think the point is how all that street cred BS is so fleeting and amounts to nothing to the rest of society. At least the businessman might get a line or two obituary newspaper . It’s simple. It was meant to show that for all you do in life none of it matters in death, you’re just another body. For as feared and known as Omar was in his walk of life, in the grand scheme of things that meant nothing in his death. Not only that but that’s yet another one of the many many times the show creators show you just how dysfunctional the city of baltimores infrastructure is. This seems egregious to tag someone’s dead loved one as the wrong person, but it’s just random paperwork that’s gonna get overlooked or misplaced.

@@mikeythompson7777 The "Loony Tunes " character "Elmer Fuud " sang "A Hunting We Will Go" in one of the cartoons chasing that rascally rabbit "Buggs Bunny and this was in all likelihood where Omar picked it up watching cartoons as a child.
Either song applies but in an otherwise anti Hollywood show the Omar character is complete Hollywood slop. If he stood or walked alone, back uncovered whistling or not, for 10 seconds he'd be harbor freight. I get the popularity of the character and it was acted beautifully but seriously not a chance in hell.
Omar, despite the random death, still went out a legend. Marlo may have won according to mainstream society, but he got no ring in the Streets, which is what he wanted. Moral: Choose wisely what you care about, it'll either lift you up or bring you down.
They didn't know who he was. They had to read the tag and realized they misidentified the color and cause of death. The whole point was that he became a nameless unknown to most people the minute he died. They didn't even write a blurb about him in the newspaper
Great vid. Watched the series again and loved it. Was really enjoying the understated brilliance of costume design. The Old West motif of Omar's look or the military like dress of Chris Patrlow, etc.
One other thing that is pretty interesting is that Omar Little is based on a few real people that were there, Shorty Boyd, Ferdinand Harvin, Billy Outlaw, Anthony Hollie and finally Larry Donnell "Donnie" Andrews who incidentally played "Donnie" (basically himself) on the wire. He was friend, gunman and adviser to Omar and Butchie. 🤘
I love how each season has a different theme but the same overall message. Hence the same opening theme song, covered by different artists in different genres. Interesting factoid: season 2 is the only season to feature the original version of "Way Down in the Hole"
In 2009 I was in a halfway house in Irvington nj on lyons ave called Q1 and there was a church across the street. Outside one day I heard ppl saying that guy across the street at church was Omar from the wire. That’s how I discovered the wire deciding to watch the show to see if I could recognize the man and sure enough it was Michael k Williams and Christian love Baptist church was his church he attended every Sunday.
i haven't seen the show in years. i'm pretty sure The M.E. switched them on purpose. he even says something and chuckles after doing "they should get a kick out of this" sometimes to that effect
He didn’t whistle “The Farmer in the Dell.” While the tune is the same, he was actually whistling, “A Hunting We Will Go,” a tribute to Elmer Fudd from the Looney Tunes cartoons.
The game does not change. The players in the game change. The firepower changes but, not the violence of the streets. Omar saying Michael is just a kid was watching himself come full circle. Father Time is undefeated
6:20. I found it interesting too. Gus knew who "Fat Faced Rick" was. He recognized his name through the list of campaign contributors to various city council members, and how he got a profitable real estate deal through it. So I wonder why he never knew who Joe was, given Joe was a higher ranking member in the drug trade. It could've been a testament to how Joe operated. Avon and Marlo "wanted their names to ring out." Joe, on the other hand, kept a lower profile. As Joe said on several occasions "buy for a dollar sell for two"
What I got from the scene was. The county coroner possibly also went to school with Omar like Clay Davis, and being the coroner you know that it's only a matter of time when a major source of job security will soon be on the slab eye to eye with you.
Bro is just now cover some shit anyone who has ever watched this series already knew and basically said the same shit purekino said years ago. Thank you
Probably so that the legend of Omar can remain floating around like "You know, they say the dude that was autopsied and buried wasn't even Omar!".. lol
Exactly what I was thinking about that scene. A legend on the streets, in a game lots of people don't know is doing on. Stringer: " You know, Avon, you gotta think about what we got in this game for, man. Huh? Was it the rep? Was it so our names could ring out on some fucking ghetto streetcorner, man? No, man. There's games beyond the fucking game."
as always you video in this type show are great. TY. I always thought someone like McNulty or Bunk. change the name tags to give him a respectful burying, as a last good deed to him , showing the least they can do for him. and not just get cremated and forgotten . My guess was maybe Bunk, since he was the last one to had the talk with.
People told me I should have watched this back when it first aired. Finally binged it a few weeks ago… and it was pretty good. A bit dated at this point but I can see why it was so hyper back when it first came out. Really good show:
The name tag mix up, is to show , that no matter what you've think you've done or accomplished, when you die.....your back to no one. It shows your not near as big as you think you where. He was a king in the streets, but in death? It's back to the real world ,with real people "the mourge workers" were they've never heard of you. It's to show a world within a world. It shows , Anyone could have been an Omar.
12 secs in. Imma say because Omar was VERY well respected by the ppl. HE swapped the name tag because "Omar" can't die. The Hood NEEDS an Omar at all times. That's where young pretty boy took over forgot his name
The kid that shot and killed Omar, notice him at 1:30...what is he about to do to the cat? And Omar has to be one of the greatest characters ever...extraordinarily complex. I was fortunate enough to run into Michael K. Williams in Atlanta and I told him that Omar Little was a fantastic character -- and that he did an amazing job of capturing him. He was humble and simply shook my hand and said thank you.
I didn’t see your post so unfortunately I repeated your question. The cat is scared & that lil bastard is holding lighter fluid. That’s what’s he’s doing with the cat.
It's not the fact that if you zone out, Omar doesn't matter...it's if you zone out, the streets don't matter. That world doesn't matter. That whish is significant on those streets, all those characters...don't matter.
I actually took it as the show, showing the streets changing dramatically no code anymore no structure no longevity no respect whoever holds the gun has the power. when omar seen kennard he just shrugged it off like ain’t this ish crazy a lil mf stepping to me now I’m tired of this. He seen his time unfolding right in front of him and I feel Marlo had that same realization in his final scene.
The fact that Omar's nametag was switched with the nametag of the Detective from the first season that wanted to throw himself down the stairs to qualify for a disability pension is IRONIC A F. Also the fact that The Wire writers made Omar GAY to make him more complex was GENIUS. Lastly i like the fact that Omar's last good deed in life was saving the life of the cat that Kenard was putting lighter fluid on..Kenard had to let the cat go so he could follow Omar into the store so he could kill him..
David Simon hated the way Omar was being glorified. So, starting in Season 3, he started to deconstruct the character. 1st by making him stage a botched robbery of a Drug house that leads to a clumsy death of 1 of his crew members, and the lecture Bunk gives him, then his overall death which is 1 big ironic twist of fate: Doesn't touch civilians and children, but a 10 year old literally pulls the trigger on him when grown men couldn’t. And Omar looks him right in the eyes before he does it. What follows is him being fully deconstructed: Civilians making up rumors he robbed the Bodega he died in, Bunk at the crime scene pissed at him because he thought Omar broke a promise when he told him "no more bodies", the newspaper not giving him a mention in the newspaper and instead a light Arson. This is suppose to hit you in the gut because Omar lived by a strict code of how he did his business. How he robbed those "in the game" but did not bother those who were not. It all unravels right in front of you after his death. His code and morals were all for nothing, then the final scene with the toetags: For as loved as Omar was on this show, he nearly got buried as a 70 year old White guy. It get thrown further in the wind with the "Urban Legend" tall tales of his death Nice video though
He did break his promise to Bunk...in a miserably ineffective way at that. Hit zero targets in the apartment. All he could get was Savino. The one chance he got with Chris all he could do was hide behind the bulletproof couch and stare at Donnie's corpse. Which isn't a fair comparison since it was 4 vs. 2 in the apartment I would have loved if season 5 wasn't so rushed and there could have been at least an episode or two where Chris and Omar hunted each other. Would have been all time bad ass television history.
I still think Omar dies the same way. The whole point of his death was for all his Robin Hood glory, he was human and flawed and could get got like any of us Had the show had an extra couple episodes, I think only the newsroom would have been beefed up
I thought the part with the name tags was showing exactly how screwed up the Baltimore Medical Examiners Office was. They can't keep a simple name tag with the patient. Plus they were bring persons from temp agency to make things worse. I know they have temp agencies for the medical field, but to need that help in the ME's office is something else for both agency, ME dept. and the worker. Canard being Omar Littles killer shows how young the HOPPERS/corner kids are getting. What is next toddlers running the corners? What was Canard's age 8-9. everyone claims to be Omar's killer, but when the news reports a 8 year Canard being arrested and charged for Omar's murder Snoop's and every other persons claim goes out the window and down the drain. Plus Canard will be out of prison by 18-21 and everyone will remember him at least taking the rap, doing time for the murder of Omar Little regardless of the truth.
As true as this is, I think the major point in all of this is the fact that stories are only as important as the the ones reporting them since this season is from a media’s perspective. Even if the coroner fucked up, will that even be covered on the news?

Either song applies but in an otherwise anti Hollywood show the Omar character is complete Hollywood slop. If he stood or walked alone, back uncovered whistling or not, for 10 seconds he'd be harbor freight. I get the popularity of the character and it was acted beautifully but seriously not a chance in hell.
No, he didn't hit us with that Clay Davis....shhhhiiiiiittttt😂😂😂😂😂
Omar, despite the random death, still went out a legend.
Marlo may have won according to mainstream society, but he got no ring in the Streets, which is what he wanted.
Moral: Choose wisely what you care about, it'll either lift you up or bring you down.
5:26 The Wire was the ORIGINAL Game of Thrones, and it's appropriate that Littlefinger was in it 😂😂😂
If Omar wanted to peruse that lifestyle, he should have done so quietly
He was gay Omar?
@@cigaweed88mega gay
It was simple... It just showed that even the people in the medical field knew who Omar was...💯💯💯
They didn't know who he was. They had to read the tag and realized they misidentified the color and cause of death. The whole point was that he became a nameless unknown to most people the minute he died. They didn't even write a blurb about him in the newspaper

The game respects no one.
Shiiiiiid
I love that people are still making videos about this show lol. I’ve shown it to so many people, and I’m about to rewatch it with a new friend
He was gay, Omar Little?
How'd you figure that one out.
He's married, with a gumar!
@@Kromsmitesyou He's a come from behind kind of guy
Fucking slander you ask me!
The penguin exhibit.
*Just watched this and your recent video on Kenard and it amazes how you're still finding these great Easter eggs* 🔥
this guy is tripping me out with the Omar and Clay Davis adlibs lol
Some nobody often takes out a street legend!!
This is your best one, yet. Spot on! 👍✌️👍
Yeah, but what about "no-hard Anthony"? His name still ringing out??
between avon and omar they both was loved all across americas urban communities
I need to watch this show again, its been over a decade since my last rewatch.
because david simon wanted to be that way
But it's the other way...
Excellent breakdown. I agree on all points
This is a good analysis.
Had to subscribe after the outstanding summary !!!!! Nice!!!
i haven't seen the show in years. i'm pretty sure The M.E. switched them on purpose. he even says something and chuckles after doing "they should get a kick out of this" sometimes to that effect
He didn’t whistle “The Farmer in the Dell.” While the tune is the same, he was actually whistling, “A Hunting We Will Go,” a tribute to Elmer Fudd from the Looney Tunes cartoons.
Great analysis!
He wasn't a nobody. He was a somebody in his world.
I wanted one more season, focused on the health and medical industries!
His name was not his name
Your comment made me realize a connection between 2 similar Wire quotes: Vondas says, "My name is not my name." Maro shouts, "My name IS my name!"
He went into the unknown not knowing.
@@narxesHe petered out… he died on the vine
Man you really gave street life perspective. They were insignificant when it came to real life and this is true outside of Hollywood.
Fascinating analysis. I see it in the stories of our own lives. You can do so much, but you're only a small detail in someone else's work
The game does not change.
The omar still being alive thing would of been a cool detail for the show to use. Way better than the serial killer thing lol
We wanted Omar to go out saying say hello to my little friend
It indicated that OMAR was just another dead man in the " GAME".
Omar Devon Little.
Very insightful 🤔👏🙂
Bro is just now cover some shit anyone who has ever watched this series already knew and basically said the same shit purekino said years ago.
Thank you
“..y’know what happens to a body they can’t ID in the morgue?”- McNulty
"At the end of the day " the King and the Pawn go back into the same Box. " I like that
Probably so that the legend of Omar can remain floating around like "You know, they say the dude that was autopsied and buried wasn't even Omar!"..
When i first time i saw the same scene i felt the same thing another blackman dead and no one knew who he was outside the black community..
Kenard is the coldest character in The Wire. He's about to pour lighter fluid on a cat and then sees bigger prey.
5:20 😅 I remembered to hit the like button when you said this lol
12 secs in. Imma say because Omar was VERY well respected by the ppl. HE swapped the name tag because "Omar" can't die. The Hood NEEDS an Omar at all times. That's where young pretty boy took over forgot his name
you did prop joe dirty man
The kid that shot and killed Omar, notice him at 1:30...what is he about to do to the cat? And Omar has to be one of the greatest characters ever...extraordinarily complex. I was fortunate enough to run into Michael K. Williams in Atlanta and I told him that Omar Little was a fantastic character -- and that he did an amazing job of capturing him. He was humble and simply shook my hand and said thank you.
I didn’t see your post so unfortunately I repeated your question. The cat is scared & that lil bastard is holding lighter fluid. That’s what’s he’s doing with the cat.
The mortician looks just like that street self defence guru
One of the morgue attendants changed it as a joke
This video should be 30secs long
That's for garbage TikTok videos
Your attention span is broken
It's not the fact that if you zone out, Omar doesn't matter...it's if you zone out, the streets don't matter. That world doesn't matter. That whish is significant on those streets, all those characters...don't matter.
Hey, nice video. You should do a video on the movie Shawshank redemption.
You cant be an urban myth when you are an urban reality.
The kid was about to light the car on fire smh.
Thought it was to symbolize that they didn’t know him and his name was just a Legacy!
It get thrown further in the wind with the "Urban Legend" tall tales of his death
Nice video though
He did break his promise to Bunk...in a miserably ineffective way at that. Hit zero targets in the apartment. All he could get was Savino. The one chance he got with Chris all he could do was hide behind the bulletproof couch and stare at Donnie's corpse. Which isn't a fair comparison since it was 4 vs. 2 in the apartment I would have loved if season 5 wasn't so rushed and there could have been at least an episode or two where Chris and Omar hunted each other. Would have been all time bad ass television history.
I still think Omar dies the same way. The whole point of his death was for all his Robin Hood glory, he was human and flawed and could get got like any of us
Had the show had an extra couple episodes, I think only the newsroom would have been beefed up
I thought the part with the name tags was showing exactly how screwed up the Baltimore Medical Examiners Office was.
Bruh. Your one liners from the show that you use in your videos are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤣🫡
As true as this is, I think the major point in all of this is the fact that stories are only as important as the the ones reporting them since this season is from a media’s perspective. Even if the coroner fucked up, will that even be covered on the news?
